After heading back to the Mirage I dropped $80 or so on video poker and $50 or so on slots, had a couple drinks and called it a night.

The Luxor smelled notably good. Especially compared to Excalibur.

Grabbing a bite and then off to see if I can turn things around on the poker table.

He had a short warmup opening act but otherwise just him. Mostly prop based comedy.

Just finished an 8 hour session at the Venetian. Another losing day at -$179. Massacred one hand badly with trips against a full house and otherwise made a few call downs too light to lose a few smallish pots. Table was super tight and quiet for much of the day and then super loose and splashy for the last couple hours. I hovered between up $100 and down $100 for most of the day but slid towards the end. I am playing too tight and timid and was getting worse towards the end of the session. Security pulled an 85 year old out of the game early in the day with stroke symptoms. He returned with a huge bottle of aspirin within half an hour and kept at it for a bit.

After grabbing a bite last night I headed over to the Rio to catch Penn & Teller. It was a good show but I had seen a few of their tricks on tv before. Quite a bit of crowd participation, mostly at the option of those in the crowd, but some random picks as well for those who like that. I managed to figure out how they did approximately zero of their tricks.

The Rio:

Famous Penn & Teller Theater:

Even more famous Hash House:

Couple shots from inside the theater:

Wandered the Rio a bit afterwards and found a 9/6 Video Poker machine to kill some time on waiting for the cab crowds to die down. Spun my $20 all the way up to $25. Played a little more VP back at the Mirage and ended up about a hundred thanks to hitting quads a couple times.

I played a short session this morning at the Venetian and booked a small $140 win when the table broke shortly after noon. Timing worked out well as I needed to take care of a few work issues this afternoon.

I snapped this sad excuse for chip porn shortly before the table broke as I figured it may not get any better than this:

Afterwards I finally played a session somewhere other than the Venetian. I played a short session at the Mirage and dropped $40 or so after a couple hours of folding garbage for the most part.

Grabbing a quick bite and they doubled up my beer order for happy hour. Thangs gonna get krazy now.

All out of Sculpin unfortunately. Green Flash is not as good but I have had worse.

lol @ giving you two beers for happy hour instead of half off of one beer.

Those two beers have turned into some trouble. They were 8+% and they whet my appetite for more. Have played disciplined nitty poker up until now. Now I am playing buzzed nitty poker. Was up $150ish for a while and now down $50ish. For now. Lost with AA against a short stack who hit a flush. Lost with JJ against somethingorother. Still pretty card dead, so keeping me out of trouble at least.

Ended that last session at the Mirage down $85 after playing for four hours or so. Some friends got into Vegas yesterday for some sort of Curling thing. They dropped by the Mirage and we went over to B&B Ristorante across the street for a late dinner. They wanted to see the Venetian and felt like Italian food so that covered it nicely. Shared an awesome charcuterie and I had braised cheek ravioli. All good. I have reached that point in the trip where I stop taking pics apparently. So just imagine some blurry images of something here:

Woke early at 6am today and wasn't able to get back to sleep. Either the rich food or yesterdays beer parade is impacting my system. Awake and wired so may as well pack up as I head out this afternoon. Will have time to fit in some more poker before I go.

So I'm not the only one who is insanely shaky my last day after too much drinking and not enough sleeping?

I am a few thousand points away from the next M Life tier. I don't think it actually does anything useful for me but I feel compelled to get there now. If we had eaten at an MLife property last night I would have been over that hump. Gold is better than Pearl though so it has to be done.

I can identify with the feeling! Although I'm a firm believer that everything short of Platinum is essentially the same.

I limped over the tier to Gold. Ended up dropping $300 or $400 on Video Poker while waiting for a seat that never opened up at 1/2nl at the Mirage. I grabbed a quick bite just before heading out that I charged to my room and think that was the final push.

My last poker session of this trip was another losing one, down -$166 at the Venetian again. On the plane now, taking off in a few. Bye Vegas.

Plane almost fully boarded and I still have my entire row to myself. Gold card ftw! Crazy line at airport security. Gold card was no help there.

Thanks!

Well, for anyone ever considering a solo trip I don't think there is a better place to do it than Vegas. I still prefer Vegas with my wife compared to solo but that is largely because I am given close to 8 hours a day to play poker when she is there with me. I was a bit concerned that eating alone would be a bit of a pain but Vegas is very solo friendly. Just about every restaurant has bar seating and I never felt out of place anywhere on my own.

I managed 7 sessions of poker spanning almost 30 hours and only booked one lone winning session. Overall I dropped $527 at $1/$2nl mostly at the Venetian but with a couple sessions at the Mirage thrown in. I probably dropped half of that amount stubbornly calling off with trips against full houses when I should have known better. I lost another big pot in my last session when I called a short stack's flop shove raise with top pair top kicker plus the nut flush draw against two pair. Otherwise whenever I had a hand no once else did. Part of the problem was playing too abc nitty and making myself easy to play against. I met a pile of interesting people at the tables and only played with a small handful of people that I wished any sort of death upon.

I donated a little more to the casinos this time around dropping $445 on video poker, $50 on slots and $20 on roulette. I meant to bust my craps cherry on this trip but never got around to it.

I dropped a little more than $500 on food for the entire stay and ate very well. Meals could have been done much much cheaper. The room was just south of $400 and flights were a little under $500. Direct flights are pretty hard to find from Ottawa to Vegas and this whole trip was based around direct flights. Even getting to the airport a couple hours ahead of departure time I was under 7 hours door to door each way. On my last trip with one layover we were looking at over 13 hours of travel each way. That extra time takes a lot out of you.

I look forward to getting back again. The next trip is at least 9 months away, probably much longer.

Thanks for reading.
