So they got rid of cox analogue, and I'm sure not paying a subscription since I'm never here.

I've got a Roku stick recently and am wondering what I should get on it (I have no idea about american stations anyway).

I'd quite like to be able to get local news stations so am wondering what to install for that.

As for the main stuff, what should I be getting a month pass to? Hulu, sling? or the individual stuff like HBO now, CBS?

Or would getting a friends log in for his Cox let me do something?

you should be able to get the local TV stations with an antenna. You can get one for 10 bucks on Amazon.

For everything else, it depends what channels you want to have. Sling/DirecTV Now/PlayStation Vue have lots of different packages.

Well it depends on your taste. Netflix/Hulu/HBO offer a lot of content of all types, but not as much new seasons of shows. If you want to watch local news, I'm not sure you can get that on a Roku stick. I'd probably just rely on youtube and streaming from my phone. Or you can certainly get a digital antennae but they tend to be a little more finicky.

Those antennas work from indoors? I can't stick anything outside

I am pretty sure Netflix releases more new shows (and seasons of those) than any TV channel. There are going to be 18 new shows/seasons from Netflix Originals in July.

Obv. depends on how far away from the stations you are, but for metropolitan areas the answer should be "yes" in most cases. There are websites that show you were TV stations are located in relation to your location. For me, FOX/NBC/CBS affiliates are all less than 2 miles away and ABC is less than 5 miles. No clue about Vegas though.

Sling sucks... there is no content. I think I would have gone with fire instead.

What kind of content are you talking about? Sling is providing cable TV channels. They have all that I am interested in (ESPN, FoodNetwork, TBS) but DirecTV Now and PlayStation Vue have a bigger selection.

At least for most users, the differences between Roku and FireTV are very small. Both work with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sling.

Yes, they are meant for use inside.

I guess I have Netflix so that's probably enough for while here to be honest... would have been nice to catch "proper" tv though

Get a subscription to flimstruck... it's the best thing going in as s far was subscription movie channels. It offers up the Criterion collection and much more.

Most of the local stations stream live online so you can mirror it to the TV. That's what I do with my non-cable setup.
