When you book through TR, can i book a stay for next March today, and cancel in Feb without having to pay anything, or will i be out some $$$? What about if i book today, but find a cheaper rate on TR site in a few months, can i change my reservation to get the lower rate, or will i be locked into the one i booked?

I want to book something now for my stay in March before my TR points reset to zero.

Yes, you can do both of these things. There is a limit to the number of open online reservations you can have at one time, but you can cancel and rebook without penalty as long as it is more than like a day or two before the reservation.

you can cancel and get your money back.

fyi you can also cancel part of your reservation during your stay and get your money back. for example let's say you book 5 nights. on the 2nd day of your stay you can cancel the remaining 3 days and get your money back for all 3.

This isn't possible. It won't let you search dates that you already have an existing reservation for.

Actually you can search for dates you are booked and even select the hotel you are booked at. Once you get to the room screen though - where it shows the room categories/price - you wont be able to get farther. You select the room type and it says you are already booked.

I did this for my December trip and once it dropped down to 4 nights comped, I cancelled my 1st reservation and re-booked.

Full cancellation and refund up to 72 hours before check in (not sure what time of day they go by.) Also, if you find cheaper rates on TR site for already booked dates either cancel and rebook or just call in and have them adjust the rate. I've done both.

my rates are almost always a little higher if i call in- but they don't let you book 2 reservations within 72 hours of each other at any cet properties online but will over the phone so sometimes i have to call.

This works with CET phone reservations and pretty much 90% of most places in life where there is any decent level of customer service...just ask for them to waive it for you!

Probably won't work at Walmart but any hotel, restaurant, or store that isn't bargain basement will waive a fee or extend a discount to a polite and respectful customer. It never hurts to ask.

Even had the resort fee waived in Vegas a few times but no guarantees.

Booked on the phone with CET over 40 times and never paid $10 fee. Once or twice they said they would waive and tacked it on anyway so I got it waived at the front desk when checking in. It's a BS fee.

I booked a comped room and cancelled it 1 day before i was supposed to check in with no problems. Not sure if it was because it was comped or what but they didnt give me any fuss about it at all.

Probably because of the comp. My understanding is that inside 72 hours you would lose the deposit, but on a comped reservation there isn't one.
