Re: Thoughts on Imperial Palace?
IP is the best budget place to stay. But it's budget, even though there is even cheaper in LV. If you enjoy some of the cornier aspects, it's decent. I would not eat there, but the poker games are actually super loose and still the best I've ever experienced, even if the room kind of sucks (a lot).
The beds are kind of springy and stiff, and nothing here is fancy. It feels cheaper than a typical holiday inn, but it's really not that bad in a place like vegas, where you are sleeping in your room and that's about it. i'd definitely listen to the people who say if your gf is high maintenance, she could very well disapprove.

Re: Thoughts on Imperial Palace?
Yeah it's kind of a dump... BUT if you want to stay in the absolute best location practically for free, then stay there. Just don't eat there cuz Harrahs is right next door and the food there is fine. And the poker room there actually has a lot of action, so don't necessarily rule out playing there.

Having stayed at Saharra, this place can't be any worse. Given its price and location it's a pretty good steal.

Even if she's medium, or low/medium-maintenance, I'd see what the rates are at Paris or Venetian.

Try "Bill's Gambling Hall". Still a great location, low price, and the rooms are in better condition.

Re: Thoughts on Imperial Palace?
DO NOT TAKE YOUR GIRLFRIEND (high maintenace or not) TO IMPERIAL PALACE! The place is a total ****hole. Me and a buddy when a few years ago and stayed there. Our toilet would not flush and our sink would not drain. We called down 4-5 times during our 4 day stay and they never came up to fix it.
The restroom in the casino had an attendant in it (to offer towels, cologne etc.) and there was paper waste, empty drink glasses, and beer bottles all over in there. What a joke!
When we checked out, my buddy was complaining about the horrible condition of our bathroom. We asked to see the manager. The clerk went and got the manager and explained to him in earshot of us that "these *******s have a complaint". Unbelievable!
If you want something with a good location, clean and good service for a cheaper price - try Treasure Island or even the Flamingo. Girlfriend may never want to go back to Vegas if you stay at IP.

Miserable times stumbling to room @ 4am at the IP. You get what you pay for there. Pretty much what e1 else has said, its a dump - but its cheap.
I would recommend Harrah's next door. Probably a few bucks more per night, but a slight step up and not as trashy. (and closer to venetian, grand lux etc)

Re: Thoughts on Imperial Palace?
I stayed there with a friend (who was cash strapped) and it was perfectly fine. I did hate the big round table that did take up much of the room. It was a fun three days and I never saw any of the problems the other posters had.
The IP is centrally located so it is an easy walk to anything. From the Sahara to the Mandalay Bay, it is walkable. Go around Bill's and take a walk back to Flamingo and Koval. Pay your respects to Tupac since that is where he was killed. Back on Flamingo the Weston/Casaurina, Ellis Island, Tuscany and Terrible's all have super cheap gambling. There are also some shady characters running around back there so be careful and mindful of your wallets/purses.

Re: Thoughts on Imperial Palace?
I had a dream about vegas last night even though I've never been there. IP was in my dream and it was a huge uhhhh Imperial Palace....very weird stuff. Maybe my mind is telling me to gtfo out of PA and head to vegas.
Why in the name of god would I dream about the IP of all places. It has to be a sign...just has to.

I think that it's a sign that you need to wash your sheets.

Re: Thoughts on Imperial Palace?
I would consider staying at Bally's or the Flamingo instead. Both are located in the same central part of the strip within walking distance to everything, and the quality of the rooms compared to the IP is well worth the extra $5-10/night you would pay.

I would not take my GF to the Imperial Palace regardless of how low maintenance she might be.

Re: Thoughts on Imperial Palace?
Not sure if anyone else posted this but when my Uncle told me this a few years ago I was like wtf...guess it's true.
From wiki:
"Ralph Engelstad (January 28, 1930 Thief River Falls, Minnesota – November 26, 2002 Las Vegas, Nevada) was the multi-millionaire owner of the Imperial Palace casino-hotels in Las Vegas and in Biloxi, Mississippi and the Klondike Hotel & Casino. He was also the donor for the construction of the $110 million Ralph Engelstad Arena for his alma mater, the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and another arena bearing his name in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. A self-made man, Engelstad was one of the very few independent casino-hotel owners in Las Vegas."
"Nazi controversy
Engelstad was a controversial figure. He raised accusations of being sympathetic to Nazism owing to his collection of Nazi memorabilia stored in a private room within the casino-hotel, including a painting of himself dressed in a Nazi uniform (captioned "To Adolf from Ralphie"), a painting of Hitler with the reverse caption, and a collection of antique cars alleged to have once belonged to German Nazi leaders.
[edit] Hitler birthday party
On April 20 in 1986 and 1988, he hosted parties to celebrate Adolf Hitler's birthday[1] at his casino in Las Vegas which featured bartenders in T-shirts reading "Adolf Hitler — European tour 1939-45". Because of this, in 1989, the Nevada Gaming Commission fined Engelstad $1.5 million "for actions that damaged the reputation and image of Nevada's gaming industry." Engelstad apologized publicly for the parties, but the row was not to be his last controversial move."
