This company is based out of Las Vegas. Curious if anyone has eaten here and your thoughts on the food would be great. Looking into maybe opening a franchise of this company out here in the Midwest.

Umm think I'd check out yelp almost 200+ reviews and if you're still interested try it myself

I don't go by reviews online. Do not trust them

They are fine but nothing exceptional and certainly nothing that sets them apart from any other americanized Teriyaki joint. I used to go to the one in Henderson often enough and I cannot recall ever seeing more than four customers at any one time. I suppose it could be that most got their food to go.

Are they like a Yoshinoya's restaurant?

Just like with most chains, rice always tastes old like its been sitting for hours which it has been, vegetables taste like they've been boiled/steamed in stale water, it's hit and miss. In all seriousness open an original place and do it right.

I know the owner's mom, and it's a true family operated small business that pays attention to quality. I like the food, their sauce is good and chicken is nearly always hot, fresh and juicy. Veggies are fresh, albeit undercooked a little, and the rice is fine. The yakisoba and fried rice are serviceable and the portion sizes are good. Mac salad is very traditional Hawaiian style and a nice treat. If you're a low carb guy, you can get all veggies as a side and ask for the chicken with no extra sauce.

This isn't gourmet, but it's fast, tasty teriyaki that's a step up from the mall food court for sure.

2006 or so they only had maybe 2-3 locations in Vegas. Lunch time jam packed... It was very popular. I enjoyed it.

Now with somewhere around 8-10 locations and increased competition ... Doesn't seem as insanely popular. Prices actually seem like they haven't increased in 8 years. Back then it seemed pricey, now it seems moderate like Panda Express. Also feel quality has gone down. Many better alternatives. What was once creative and unique is familiar just like panda, and not as reliable.

I would say it's all about the competition then the market. I would guess in Nebraska or Iowa it would do well, within 100 miles of Chicago probably fail.

You Don't trust yelp reviews when there's like 40-50+ reviews for a place lol??????

In case you didn't know yelp has a large office in my hometown (Scottsdale) and I know many people that work there. They heavily screen reviews to weed out fake reviews...example someone's account only has one or two reviews (really good or really bad for a place) then they will flag and remove those reviews.

It helps to eliminate other competing companies from bashing each other or friends pumping a restaurant up.

Yelp is very reliable IMO and i use it all the time to take an overall snapshot of a place and decide if I want to try it. I won't eat at a new place if it has 3.5 stars or less...would rather go to a 4-4.5 star place and seems to guide me pretty well.

A lot of yelpers rate low for service, despite awesome food. You do have to look at the reviews with a grain of salt, and weed out the ones that are just nit picky. Lots of yelpers go to a restaurant and order something obscure, like going to burger joint and ordering the shrimp ceasar salad then complain it was bad.

One of my favorite local spots is Pho So 1 on Spring Mountain and Decatur. They have amazing pho, seriously delicious. Yelp rates it a 3.5 mainly because people order wrong and they don't like the service. It's a pho factory, they churn guests in and out fast because the prices are so low, but that's great! I want an amazing bowl of soup, not a 5 star dining experience for 7.95$.

Yelp is fine for getting a feel for a place, but I say if it's 3 stars or above and you're curious, just go.

Bacon maybe you missed that Yelp is headquartered in Durangos town and he has a friend who works there.

Oh wait Yelp actually has a terrible reputation from everyone in the business and OP ignoring Yelp makes sense. Don't advertise with Yelp and they filter reviews as they please.

Live Action-Not familiar with this model-but if you are truly serious about the Restaurant business a few things to consider-
First (and I think you are focused on this by starting this thread) is product....its really key that you are passionate about the product that you are bringing to your home market.

With the franchised model, it is important to know what the Franchisor will be bringing to the table in terms of training, support, marketing requirements, purchasing power and how much experience do they have in supporting franchisees (key with new models-older models it will be easy to find existing or former franchisees that will share their experience with you)

Be careful with any investment in this business, it is very difficult and most fail. Done correctly though, it can be a good money maker long term. There is a thread in the business and investing forum that discusses franchised restaurants-I have posted in it several times about the business, and I have quite a bit of experience-if you wish I will try to answer any questions you may have about the business in general-
