Part 5 - Sunday 02/10
We slept in a little late today and had breakfast in our room since we could get hands on a fridge for our stuff from wholefoods (nit tipp: always say it's for medicine and get it complimentary).
Afterwards we headed over to the B for our first session. There was some action going on in Bobbys Room with Eli, Doyle and people I didn't recognize.
Steve and I got seats in different 2/5 games. I was lucky enough to flop a set in a huge multiway pot. The good thing in livepoker is you have all this extra dead money coming your way when dragging a pot since so many people entered in the first place.
Few hours into the session my buddy Dieter came to visit us. He had his day off and brought his family along to wander around the strip with them. I joined them and we made our way to Aria by tram.
I somehow love this cocos smell they have there. It's the same with the smell in the Mirage and they also have it at the trop now I think. Tried to get into a 2/5 game there but the room was packed, the waitlist showed like 20+ names and they told me they weren't going to be able to open another table soon.
So I said goodbye to Dieter and his family who wanted to move on and made my way back to the B via Tram to find Steve for lunch.
Steve didn't want to leave his game as he was stuck so I decided to trade some comps for a pizza at Snacks.
Obligatory Picture of free nit lunch:
While browsing interwebs during lunch I suddenly saw 4(!) 2/5 games being spread at Caesars. They usually run 1 game max. Thought it might be a mistake but decided to give it a chance and walked over there via the bridge from the B. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was actually true: They ran a WSOP circuit event and the room was packed. I got a seat pretty fast and my table was great. A lot of splashy tournament players with big money on the table.
The session went great and I managed to drag a big pot against one of those splashy tournament guys who raised my turnbet with A
8
on a dry A8T7 board. I was pretty confident I had the best hand and wanted to give him more rope planning to x/c most rivers. The 8 OTR only added insult to injury so I could x/jam, got called, tabled my hand and only saw his cards quickly hitting the muck.
In the evening I met up with Steve who was really tired and heading to bed, so I had to go grind all for myself again. Drove to the Wynn, wasn't too happy with my 2/5 game there that night and saw another 2/5 at the Mirage on Bravo - off to the Mirage again.
Little did I know that the main theme of me playing at the Mirage that night would be flatting my nose on the shopping window of a candy store:
The game was great and I had immediate position on a whale to my right but I couldn't get into any good spots with him. There were only three regs at that table with me and when one of them got into a huge pot with the whale I couldn't help rooting for the whale deep inside. He ended up gettting it in with A4 on AJ4 and when the whale flipped his JJ I found myself celebrating inside a little...but that was only for a second when I heard him say "good night folks, it was a pleasure playing with you. See you tomorrow?". Everyone nodded, and soon enough the game was breaking up again. Two of the regs regs left and so did the other recreational players.
I was just about to take off myself but then a drunk couple came over and bought in for the 750 max. They could barely say a sentence that made any sense and he had to explain to her what she had to do every time. The reg and me had to fight hard not to salivate on the felt, but things just wouldn't be working out for me that night. The drunk lady spewed off her chips to people around the table and when I finally 3-bet the reg with QQ and got coldcalled by her I had to succumb to K4 when I spitecalled her remaining $80 on a KJ3 flop.
Regardless I can hardly complain about how the day went for me overall. I booked a nice win and was looking forward to the next week.
Up next: First session at the Aria meeting more German fellow nits
