Re: Taxi Longhauling

Another idea would be to have "secret shoppers." In other words, have people who are paid by those overseeing the taxis act like tourists/locals taking cabs to the Strip/home/elsewhere and see what route the taxi takes them. Of course the people playing these roles would have to be rotated through pretty regularly so that the taxi drivers don't start recognizing them.

I don't think the authorities actually care enough to fix this issue. Except for a few long haul nits like us, most tourists have no clue that they are being long hauled. For most tourists this is a drop in the bucket compared to all the different ways they are going to be screwed on the trip.

Re: Taxi Longhauling

I usually head to Town Square from the airport to get groceries from Whole Foods. Pretty certain I get longhauled every time, but I am not sure what the quickest route is. What should I ask if going to Town Square?

Just curious, when you do this do you have the cab wait in the parking lot for you? It seems awfully hard to get a cab in Vegas outside of a hotel casino cab line.

I usually throw groceries in my luggage and head to the Ace/Deuce bus stop across the street and take the bus to my hotel.

Actually to get to Town Square you really do want to go through the tunnel. Take the first right after the tunnel onto Hidden Well Rd (parallels the 215). Turn right at LV Blvd., immediately get in the left lane and go up the inclined bridge over LV Blvd, the first right is Whole Foods.

yea took the shuttle last time, we got lucky and caught one as it was about to leave so no wait, and we made it to IP as the 2nd stop. we did the pre pay for pick up so i think it was 13-15 for drop off and pick up.

The "we" in your story makes it a bad play. You paid pretty close to what a cab would have cost since there were 2 of you, and got lucky it was the 2nd stop and not the 14th. I'm a massive hater of the shuttle, but it's at least defensible economically if you're going solo.

Re: Taxi Longhauling

Ok so I'm coming next month. Coming in on Sunday at about 1000am and staying at planet Hollywood. Should I insist on not taking tunnel. Same on the way out we'd at 3pm. Like I've said cab to aria last time was 25 in and 15 out.

I know this has to have been answered itt already but I'm having issues with search on my phone.

I'm headed straight to the Rio from the Airport. Is the freeway the cheapest route? If not, what is the cheapest?

Thanks.
