Re: Stupid question about the $20 trick

I stayed June 27- July 7 at the Flamingo and tried the $20 trick for the first time and it worked. Granted the 10 nights cost a grand total of $197. When I gave the lady the $20 she hooked us up with a Go Room overlooking the pool. Best $20 I have ever spent.

Got upgraded- same room but at end of the hall which had an amazing strip view plus view of all the pools - including the topless pool. Bedroom was half windows, half standard wall so it was pretty amazing.

Re: Stupid question about the $20 trick

$20 worked incredibly well at Bally's 2 weeks ago.

I booked a 5 night stay through Total Rewards for $40/nt in their worst room type. Slipped the $20 at check-in and made some friendly small talk about how I was visiting with my fiance and it would be great if they had a room available with a little more space. Girl at front desk loves the $20 and proceeds to tell me she put us in a nice room. Not really convinced though...I walk away feeling like I just lit $20 on fire.

Get to the 17th floor and realize our room is the last at the end of the hall (North Tower). Get down there and it has a double door entrance. Bingo! Open the doors and realize we are in a ridiculously huge suite. I paced it off and the place was 1,500+ square feet. Fulling living room, dining room, wet bar with fridge, giant master suite with a huge tub, 2 bathrooms (one in the bedroom and one by the entrance doors), and a gym room with our own exercise bike! WTF. It was amazing and we freaked out for about 20 minutes. Best $20 I ever spent. One night we even got a delivery of chocolates, nuts, fruit, etc from a random host that must have thought we were high rollers.

Will stay at Bally's again, and def try the $20 trick again.

Re: Stupid question about the $20 trick

Going around December and I suspect that Vegas is more dead this time of year than most, staying at the MGM. Its going to be fairly obvious that this is our first time in Vegas but I wouldn't know if they upgrade us or not, the standard rooms look pretty good to me.

Anyone attempted it at the MGM?

Re: Stupid question about the $20 trick

There's the world of difference between the newly rennovated rooms and the original tower rooms. Ergo, well worth trying. Your likelihood of success will be influenced more by the length of stay, midweek/weekend and propensity of the clerk than it will be by someone else's results under different conditions.

But yes, to answer your question directly, many thousands of people have tried it. Some got lucky, some didn't.

Anyone try excalibur?
Seems like they just upgrade to a widescreen room which really isnt much of a upgrade from a regular room.

A Widescreen room is actually a pretty decent upgrade at Excal.

Those rooms are recently upgraded as opposed to the rooms in tower I.

MGM is one of the only hotels with airport check in and very few people use it.
It is located at the ned of the spot where you pick up your luggage.

I had a nice friendly chat with the desk clerk and then got him to agree that the $25 resort fee really sucked. I asked if there was any way he could waive it for $20. He said sure and I saved myself $125. This was a few months ago. Don't just shove twenty in their face. Develop a rapport and it might work for you.

Even if it does not work, I don't think you will be unhappy with the standard rooms at the MGM. They are decent and the hotel is nice.

Re: Stupid question about the $20 trick

We are 4 guys from Sweden going to Vegas in mid September. We have booked a Bella Suite, std view at Venetian for 8 nights.

Do you have any experience on how the $20 will work there?.
4 passports x $20 (total $80) would be well worth a room upgrade from our point of view.

I would also love if the "trick" worked to get access to Tao Beach, is that even possible or other suggestions to that...?

//Cheers from Sweden

Re: Stupid question about the $20 trick

Im coming in october, not during Any holiday

Which hotel has best potential for moving from standard room to some kind of small suite?

Im looking at mid tier hotels like ti and ballys and monte carlo....

Staying for 7 days, and would shell out more than 20 but am hoping for some kind of major upgrade potentil

Of the three you mentioned, my recommendation would be ballys based on personal success and location. A day before reservation during EDC/Paquiao fight/Wsop weekend got me an early 7am check-in into their "celebrity suite" for an 60$ tip. Had bar, dining room, master bedroom with jacuzzi and about 4 couches. Typically a 300$ upgrade from what we were told at check-in.

Well I think I've said it 35 times now in this thread, but there is no good middle-class upgrade at Venetian and it's not like $20 is going to get you a penthouse suite. Also, you have two beds in a Bella that you're (ew) sharing between 4 guys, and any suite upgrade will likely only have one bed.

Any info on The Palms for this? I am staying Mon-Fri in August and hoping to get a suite. My room is a superior room, one level above the basic room.
