My first hello to you guys!

I'm Patrick from germany. Right know I travel for a year around the world and I will finish my trip after south america in LV. I'm not a highroller, but an experienced pokerplayer, and I want to play poker for a long stay in Vegas.

For me it's important to stay pretty cheap. I'm used to it because of my backpacking trip. Is it possible to find a tiny apartment for a maximum of $400? Other options, like to share with other ppl is no problem for me. Also I know about some pokerhouses, is the only way to find them the 2+2 market place?

Sorry for my english skills, I tried my best

You can probably find an apartment for that but most places will want a six month lease. Your best bet is trying to sublet or find a roommate.

Thanks for the help. How does it work to find another roommate before i am in the city? Is there a website or forum?
A fix apartment lease for 3 month is possible for me. At which platform I should search?

Try downtown , rooms from $19 , also buy a 30 day bus pass, the bus leaves every 15-20 minutes and it takes only 20 minutes to the strip. I lived in Vegas for 45 days doing this, saved me a lot of money.

holy **** $19 a night? That's pretty good, any specific places that have those rates?. I'm heading to Vegas for the summer and I'll have to look into that. Was originally gonna go with holiday royale but $19 a night downtown is great.

I live in a shared house and my cost is $550/month with utility s and everything.
The bus system here is horrible, I used the bus my first week, never again. You will need to get a car.

THIS!

It amazes me how many threads I read about moving to Vegas without a car and "I'll just take the bus to pokerz . . .". Wrong. Not going to happen.

Vegas is not a city that lends itself to walking and public transport is a joke. You MUST have a car while in Vegas. Its just not even an option to not have one.

Like viking, I was in Vegas for a few months and used a bus pass to get around, primarily for poker. It worked great, very glad I made that choice.

Service experiences are going to vary based on where you are and what lines you are using. Someone using the Deuce all the time is going to have a much different experience than someone using a non-express non-frequent line like the 102 all the time.

Moronic statements like this:

are best ignored in favor of making your own analysis based on your own needs. If you plan to have a long stay in Vegas for the purpose of playing poker, it's completely feasible to go without a car and use the bus. Just pick a place to stay that is near a decent service area. If you decide you want to take a trip out to Hoover or something, you can always just rent a car for the day.

You're right. Don't listen to locals. We only live here

As a local, who lives in Vegas, you have different needs than somebody visiting to play poker. And therefore different requirements for transportation.

I lived in Vegas for ~5 months without a car, and the only things I did outside of my shelter, was go play poker and acquire food, both of which would have been easier with a car, but certainly weren't impossible without one. i did rent a car once, when I needed to go somewhere else.

There are hostels a little bit north of the strip.

I would recommend living in a shared house if you want to meet new people.
If youre gonna take the bus to the strip, live close to a bus stop that takes you directly to the strip.

I live in the South part of Vegas, it takes me about 12-15 minutes to drive to Mandalay Bay, taking the bus takes me about 70-90 minutes (including 20 minutes of walking)

Its so waste of time, but it probably depends where you live and are going. I took the bus from South Vegas to UNLV for a week, one way took me about 90 minutes while driving takes me 20 minutes.

I live on I215 and flamingo right outside the busstop and can be standing in front of the bellagio in 20-30 minutes but there are no connections and the bus runs every 20 minutes its all about location. Now shopping that's a bit of a hassle.

If the maximum price you can pay for an apartment is $400 , you'd pretty much have to share a building with actual hobos.

Otherwise you could have pretty good living conditions if you rented with someone or some people at that price.

Yeah i would say at 400 a month your only option in that price range is renting with someone else. I mean budget suites are probably at least 500 for a month and whoever said 19 dollars a night downtown (prob el cortez) didnt factor in the resort fees which most times downtown are more expensive than the actual price of the room.

I think you should do what you need to do, but I can only imagine the nightmare it would be to find a decent, half-smart roommate in Vegas. It's got to be close to impossible with so many weird people out here. Try and find someone via friends or some other referral source. Otherwise, you could run into some sketchy people
