South Point Cafe- strict no "to go" orders South Point Cafe- strict no "to go" orders

Since the South Point has the only 24 hour 7 days a week Sportsbook, I go there sometimes around 2 or 3 am to make bets for the next day. Anyway, I was very hungry tonight and didn't feel like stopping off for fast food. So it's 2 am and the cafe is half full. I say to the hostess seating me, I would like to place a "to go" order. She tells me they have a strict policy against that. I said, I just want a turkey club in a box and I'll even tip the waiter or waitress 5 dollars (In general I over tip everyone). She tells me no. So I ask a waitress and she said, just sit at the bar, place an order- take a few bites........and wait 5 minutes and get them to box it up. This seemed like a bit of hassle and I wanted to go home after my sandwich was ready.......so I went to the bar in hopes of convincing the person taking my order. So I put 5 dollars on the counter and say this is for you. I just want a turkey club on toast with fries in a box. He says, I could get fired for that! There's no chance he's doing it. I give it one more shot and ask to speak with the manager. The manager comes out and I show her my hundreds of dollars in sports book tickets I just bet. I say to her that I always tip generously, and I just want a sandwich to go. You would think I had a mask and a gun.......like I was trying to rob the South Point of all their cash. Anyway, I didn't ask why they have that policy. I'm not sure the employees even know. I figured it had to do with them making big profits on fountain sodas and desserts.....which usually aren't ordered "to go". So I guess I can understand that policy if it's really crowded.........but it's 2 am on a Monday night/Tuesday morning and it's not even half full. I don't see the harm in me paying the casino 10.95 for them to put a turkey club in a box and the waiter receives an easy 5 dollar tip too. Anyway, I was wondering the forum's thoughts on this.......

It would have taken you less time and effort to just order it at the bar, take a few bites and get it boxed up like the first waitress recommended.

I hear what you're saying.............but believe me I was in there for under 5 minutes total. These weren't long conversations lol.

I personally have never heard of a place with this policy. The only reason I can think of is being a hotel maybe they fear getting inundated with take out orders as they are the only place open but that wouldnt really be a bad thing.

Perhaps you missed the part where they said that they don't want his take-out business.

Tell them you'd like to order an omelet, plain, and a chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast, no mayonnaise, no butter, no lettuce.

If you were okay gaming the system by bribing someone $5 to overlook the rules, why weren't you okay with gaming the system by taking a few bites and then asking for a box?

They gave you a solution to your problem in which everyone kept their job. The fact that you were too stupid to take their advice isn't anyone's problem but your own.

If I was very hungry like the OP said he was I would have just eaten the food there. At the very least taking a few bites wouldn't have been so bad.

Yeah OP it seems dumb they wouldn't do what you asked but the solution they gave wasn't bad.

WOW. Not sure how trying to get an employee to override a senseless rule (that they even have a way they get around) makes the OP stupid. Seems to me a reasonable request.

others casinos have crazy rules too, for example the golden nugget will not
serve you a bottle of water with the cap on in the poker room.
if you want a bottle of water with a cap, you have to go to the bar yourself and actually buy the water.

You do understand that violating company policies could get someone fired, right? And you do understand that the employees have come up with a solution to the very problem described by the OP, right?

So if you understand those basic concepts, it shouldn't be a stretch for you to see how stupid the OP was being.

i like the part where you slapped the abraham lincoln on the table like a big baller.

makes absolute perfect sense why they don't do to-go orders. i'll bet the cafe is reasonably priced and if they did to-go orders their room service would take a hit.

also, i bet that cafe gets busy, and if they had to do an additional 25 to-go orders during the rush it could become overwhelming and disrupt service, especially if they don't have a system for handling to-go customers or a to-go area. you'll have a bunch of people standing around blocking the aisles and the entrance waiting for their boxed up turkey sandwich.

It is a reasonable request, but the business has every right to deny it if they feel like doing so is in their best interest.

Employees were very clear about the policy and went out of their way as far as they could to satisfy the customer without risking their job. I don't think you can ask for more than that.

So no to go orders because the cafe might make too much money? Seems logical.

My ex worked for Harrah's for years and would get so pissed when I told her that monkeys could run the casinos and they'd still be profitable.

The kiddies on this forum are too young to get that reference.

Bingo. Bellagio doesn't do take out either, and when I asked them why, they specifically told me they want you to order room service. So they can gouge you $40 for lunch instead of paying $15 at the cafe for the same food.

Other than wanting people to use room service, I wonder if they also don't want people ordering food and eating while hitting up a slots/VP and greasing up the machines? Probably not would think they want degens like that don't have 20 minutes to sit down and eat.

Then tell 'em to hold the chicken, charge me for the sandwich, bring the toast and they won't have broken any rules. When the waitress inevitably asks sarcastically if you really want her to hold the chicken on the chicken salad sandwich, tell her that you want her to hold it between her knees, and then flip the table over and storm out!

Fantastic! That you could figure all that out, and lay that down on her, to come up with a way you could get your toast.

--- I didn't get it, did I?

Get what? I've been thinking of writing a screenplay with a scene like this, but I can't imagine an actor capable of pulling off this scene, so I've shelved the idea.

Now you know !

Next time bring your own bag(s)

I know I LIKE to bring my own bags, especially in the winter when I have a jacket.

I like to bring a couple of BIG Ziplocs with me, especially when I go to a buffet

I try to get two more meals to go, plus an assortment of condiments

Such an easy solution to what should be a non existent problem

OP request was entirely reasonable, (it is done thousands of times every day). The only stupid thing is the restaurants rule. As pointed out by the employees it is easily overridden.
