So my wife wants to shoot an AK47 while in Vegas

So next year the wife and I are going to Vegas for 2 weeks to get married and do a road trip.

We've been together for ~10 years with kids but have never actually got married.

We have been scheduling stuff that we want to do (IE: go to Hollywood, San Diego, Grand Canyon etc etc)

She has heard there are places in Vegas you can shoot AK47's for the lolz.

Anyone know of pricing or any other details of these shooting ranges/clubs?

Do I need to be an American Citizen? or just have ID?

Anything else?

She should warm up with a 30.06. AK-47s are hard to hit, depending on which way they are turned.

Teh Gun Store

I researched this a while back as a possible bachelor party activity. Almost everyone I asked recommended the Gun Store, but almost everyone also agreed it was super-touristy and that there were better (but smaller and less nice) places for locals.

IIRC it was a fee of $50-$100 but you had to buy the ammunition separately (which gets pretty expensive for the automatic weapons).

It was expensive enough such that drunken pai gow poker won out as the activity of choice so I don't remember all the details.

AK-47's are not much fun to shoot. M16's and MP-5's are much more fun. Google around or check the Yellow Pages when you get into town.

I can't imagine that you have to be a citizen. There's no legal requirement.

Re: So my wife wants to shoot an AK47 while in Vegas

Me and my friends went to the gun store when we were in Vegas. Its a bit off the strip but not too bad.

I shot a thompson and that was pretty awesome.

Prices are:

$40-50 for 2 clips with an auto
$60 for like 1 clip of saw
$20-30 for a pistol
etc.

They have lots of combo deals, I know one of my friends shot the tommy, MP44 and a M1911 in what they called the WW2 package, cost $100.
You can also shoot every gun on the wall (like 20) for $300 or $400.

I'd recommend something like the thompson though since you wont find one of those very often anywhere. AK's are like a dime a dozen so you can find them nearly anywhere.

I think you needed an ID but that was about it. Training was pretty lax and the people who run the store load the guns for you, pretty much idiot proofing the entire situation.

it's a rip off, and you can purchase your own fully automatic airgun for the same price and get about the same thrill, b/c it's really easy to drop a couple hundo in "the gun store". their weapons, their ammo, their prices.

start calling the AK-47 a "kalashnikov" or a "762" and she might ditch the mental connotation and decide to shoot something more fun, like an M-16 or, for her, an MP-5 because it's chambered in a hand gun round as opposed to the formers, which are chambered in rifle rounds.

i'd actually be thrilled if my girl would show some interest in guns and then my OA-93 w/ beta-C wouldn't freak her out anymore :)

This doesn't help me though being a Canadian turist is vegas.

I can't exactly walk ino a gun store and say "gimmie them there fully automatic air gun so I can go shooting round back the casino".

I also found this place which looks to be located around Town Square.

Not really by Town Square, but as far as I know the only real alternative to the gun store. At minimum, the only well known alternative.

You can buy an sks for like 80-100 bucks, they're super customizable and shoot the same bullet as an AK. Buy your own or find something different to rent for a few rounds.

No need to be US citizen.

If you're German, you're getting lots of semi-funny nazi/WW2 jokes for free.

We ended up at this place instead of the Gun Store because of our cab driver convincing us that this place was less busy. (When we went inside the cab driver waited outside until a worker went out to pay him his kickback for delivering us.)

As Canadians, we did not have any hassles with shooting the guns.

They have some decent packages where you can shoot 4 different guns (hand gun, semi-auto shotgun and semi-auto rifles).

When we were there, a bachelor party was firing the Desert Eagle. We were a few booths down from them but we could still feel the power of that gun.

Only problem with that location is the wait for a taxi cab to pick you up (and the cost to get back to the strip).

A bit off topic, but my thrill for firearms was effectively cured in the army. I really don’t understand what people see in shooting off a few rounds.

Move to a county that doesn't restrict its' citizens ability to defend themselves (either from wrong-doers or the government...oops, redundancy); no more need to go to tourist traps to shoot guns.

They are fun. A friend of mine has one. Easy to spend lots of money on the rental range.

Don't know about up in Canada but all fully automatic guns are illegal over here in NC. My friend does actually own an AK but its single shot only. Therefore, you could argue that no amount of $ could get me to shoot an automatic gun over here.

Also, after I got back from Vegas, I compared the price I payed for .45 rounds at the gun store to the price my roommates pay to shoot their Colt at our local range. Difference was about $10 or %20. Only main reason theirs is cheaper is because they go often enough to warrant a membership to the gun range. For a one timer, in Vegas I can buy a box of ammo, pay the range fee and rent a Thompson for $50. In Greensboro, NC I can do the same thing, shoot a Colt M1911 and it will cost me the same thing.

have fun at the range and she will probably like something smaller. but like .223 rounds are about 30 cents each.

You can get a machine gun permit but they're like $3000. BTW, I'm pretty sure the dude was talking about a single shot SKS for $80 since they don't make fully automatic ones.

By the case. The Federal .223 value pack (100 rounds) 55g is $40. The Remington accutip 55g is $25 for a box of 20.

They are going to gouge you on price on a rental range, since there is no competition. If you want to shoot their rental gun, you must buy their ammo.

The special tax to buy a machinegun is $200. The real expense is in the gun itself. A Thompson runs between 12 grand and 15 grand to buy. An AK is a little less

There is no North Carolina state law that makes them illegal.

Gun Store was a disappointing experience w/ everything apart from when actually firing the guns. You're rushed, everyone is blunt and impatience, you aren't really given options and since you feel like a complete idiot having never done any of this you'll end up just following oh and it's expensive.

Ask a dealer or local were you should really go. Just don't ask a taxi driver.
