it can be daunting the first time. once they know you, you are part of the place. most all ranges i know of you can bring in your own ammo. and they sell reloads quite competitively or people wouldnt buy them. most people shooting are regulars so they cant treat their customers badly.

A rental range that lets you shoot your own ammo through their guns is very rare. Although I did rent an MP-5 in Phoenix once with a buddy. We rented 3 or 4 different guns, and were more balla than their typical machinegun renter. It didn't hurt that my buddy also had his own machinegun that we shot. Once they saw we weren't complete flakes, and actually made holes in the targets instead of the ceiling, they relaxed and got much more cool with us. I think I bought 2 magazines of ammo from the store for the MP-5, but probably ran about 15 magazines through it. I let the range guy run a few mags through it too.
