The Saturday STACK tournament at the Mirage sounds impressive - 50k starting chips and 30 minutes level for a $120 buy-in. How many runners does this get? Has anybody played it?

Do the blinds start @ 1k/2k?

Or maybe they're trying this (with a legit structure) to get some NL players back in their room.

Almost. 500/500. By level 11 it's 10K/20K/2K.

Yes, it's beyond silly to have a "50K starting chips!" tournament with 500/500 starting blinds. Marketing to the ignorant masses.

nope sorry, this is just a ****ty gimmick to attract players who don't pay attention to anything except the starting stack.

caesars does this too sometimes. i find it insulting to my intelligence.

here's the structure:

Quote:
Structure
Level Small Big Ante
1: 500 500
2: 500 1,000
3: 500 1,500

21: 80,000 160,000 15,000
22: 100,000 200,000 20,000
much faster than the daily tourney at venetian or aria. thanks to their idiotic idea of 50k starting chips, the smallest denom they are using is $500, so the antes are screwed up.

this tournament is the epitome of putting lipstick on a pig. mirage should do the poker world a favor and just roll over and die already.

I should just do what everyone else is doing and start off a tournament with 50% rake and 1,000,000 in starting chips with 10k/20k blinds that double every 20 minutes. It'd be the most popular tournament in town.

Just like a WSOP final table!

That tournament sounds worse than Planet Hollywood or TI dailies, except for the longer levels.

I have a black felt tip marker, we can add some zeros to the chips.

The following is a statement from the Mirage room manager regarding this tourney from the allvegaspoker website:

"The Stack average about 40 - 45 players and will last 9 to 10 hours if played all the way - typically the players chop at 3 or 4-handed, not because it is a shove fest at that point but because they are either tired of playing and/or are afraid of not winning and missing out on a bigger payday.

We have not had one complaint and have had many compliments about the tournament from those that have played it."

Perfect, just what I need - a tournament full of fish who don't know any better occupied for up to 10 hours, not dumping any money at the cash games.

would you expect a statement any different from this from the room manager? the point of this tourney is to attract players...would he still be the manager if he said anything to discourage room growth?

To answer your question, of course not. A manager wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't put the best possible spin on any aspect of his/her room, positive or negative. I just find it rather difficult to believe that no one has complained as of yet regarding the structure of this tournament. In addition, when the current management took over I clearly remember him saying that he wanted to get rid of the "old guard" sort of speak. This is essentially why they got rid of that god awful stud game by changing the structure and rake policy. By throwing tournaments like this all it does is to ensure that the dead money occupy their time and money elsewhere while the cash games remain full of nitty regulars. Also considering that their biggest promotions over the last 1.5 years has been to start a jackpot drop, have aces cracked and throw a multi-month free roll it just seems to me that this current management is getting away from what they initially started out to do.

Looks like they changed the Starting Stack and blind structure. Has anyone played in this lately. How many people? If it starts at 11am, how long has it been lasting? Just wondering if it ends about 7p--ish or 11pm--ish.

LOL this response is the best response for you OP. This is so true, especially the bold ones.

TBH, when I see ads for tourneys like these, I don't even bother to check the structure cause I already know it's gonna be ****. The Venetian is well known for hosting deep stack you should check their tourneys, I am sure you will be happy to find one that offers a lot of play in a good range of buy-ins.

Agree, I love the "V" tournaments.

However, this is a LV trip with wife, and Sunday (morning/afternoon) is my day to play several hours, and I was looking to find best tournament on a Sunday, that will be completed by 6pm (and me winning some change).

I am staying Sat/Sun at Mirage, and going to a 7pm Sunday show with wife. I am really not looking to "make money" per se, but I am looking for a 5-7 hours tournament with potential to make a few bucks if I play well. Realizing that it may not exist, and I may just play cash game.
