Safest way to fly home from Vegas with a LOT o cash without detection/seizure by DEA, etc?

I've read a lot of horror stories of people having their cash seized by the "authorities" (DEA, etc.) due to the "suspicious" act of carrying a large sum of cash when traveling.

So what's the best way of flying home from Vegas with a large amount of cash (say $10,000 - $30,000) without detection/problems?

And is one supposed to somehow "declare" how much they are traveling with when going through security?

Thanks.

Don't really know much about this, but from what I've read that is only true if you're an American citizen. Non-US people need to declare everything >10k$.

Diamond dealers have been known to ship diamonds via plain old U.S. Mail. It might seem crazy, but you could just mail it to yourself.

honestly, worst idea ever.

if you are that paranoid, open a bank of america account before you come, and deposit the money in your account before you leave vegas.

really? another thread on this same topic. Put it in your pcoket/carryon bag, get on plane, travel home. If you are carrying 100k, maybe someone might give you some trouble. On a domestic flight you dont declare ANYTHING! The 10k declaration if only for international travel, and even if you declare it they let you bring it through. There is NO RULE about carrying unlimited amounts of cash on an airplane.

There may be no "law" against carrying unlimited amounts of cash on an airplane/through an airport, but there ARE many cases of people getting their money seized by DEA agents under "suspicion" that it might be drug money or money from some sort of criminal activity.

The point of my question is: how does a USA citizen flying domestically (i.e Vegas to home city in USA) best avoid this risk with a large sum of cash when traveling by air?

domestic you don't have much to worry about , split it up in couple of bundles, two or three pockets and wallets is fine. And take all metal out when going through security, so it wont beep and your fine. Never have had problem nor friends either.

I'm sure if there are "many" cases you can cite just one that occurred whilst flying in or out of LAS. As a blackjack player and now a poker player for 15 years, part of that time on a large blackjack team, I can assure that the DEA is not in the habit of seizing large sums of cash going in or out of LAS. I suspect the DEA would be run out of the state of Nevada, and perhaps out of several other gambling states such as Mississippi, on a rail, if they tried such a thing. I do know many people who had their $$$ seized by state police whilst driving on various slim pretexts. But, please, don't make up your own facts. Believe it or not, the federal authorities are well aware that -- gasp! -- gambling occurs in Las Vegas. The "risk" you cite appears to be invented.

When leaving/entering the U.S. you are requested to file a short form declaring the cash if it's more than the equivalent of U.S. $10,000 -- and, no, customs doesn't seize the cash either. They just ask you idiotic questions about how they, too, can become an international gambler.

I am less concerned about DEA and more concerned about light-fingered TSA agents or other passengers. Once, I had a TSA agent try to send me through the X-ray ahead of my bag on some slim pretext, and I had to refuse politely but firmly. "This is Las Vegas, and I won some money. I need to see my bag go into the machine before I step through." He relented. Another time, I had to stop a thief from picking up my bag, on the pretense that it was hers, when I came out the other side of the X-ray. These are real concerns that actually happen. The DEA deciding that your piddly few tens of thousands is worth their time, no. A local or state police department will think that's a lot of money, so it's dangerous to drive with such sums. But to the federal authorities? It's chicken feed. But, as others say, if you're truly worried, there's the Wells Fargo and the BOA.

Just put it in your pocket and go through security. Make sure to take off all metals (don't forget the belt) so you don't beep and end up getting frisked. I've gone through with several thousand before without incident. I think it is pretty common for people to carry several grand with them to and from Vegas. If people didn't bring money with them to Vegas, this town wouldn't be around anymore.

If you have over $100K in cash, that might raise some questions. Around $10K shouldn't be an issue. Just make sure you are dressed like you have $10K cash on you.

Cash seizure by the authorities in the USA is a real issue, and thus a real threat. Here's a two plus two thread with a lot of post and some interesting links:

If I just walk through security with the money in my pocket or in a money belt (under my clothes) and don't set off the metal detectors, will TSA/security not even know I have the cash on me or will the xray machines they use show I've got a brick of cash in my money belt/pocket?
