Day two: Rock and Roll and PLO
I decided it was time to get back to the core of the trip and play some STT. Running over to the RIO (ok, using Lyft.. its to hot to run), I register for their $175 STT. It lasted about 5 hands when I pickup KK, older guy raises like 250 *25/25 blinds. I shove, another guy insta calls and the older guy calls.
Yep: old guy with QQ<KK<AA. That was quick... sigh
Next $175 I live streamed on TapTalk. You can read the results. Older guy - limps UTG at 100/200 with like 2.2K. He is not the type to limp a big hand. Button I shove A9.. he tanks and calls with 98 off suit. WTF? I love how he wanted to play a hand cheap then decides to call off 70% of stack with it. Anyhow A9 < 98. Out.
I decided to register the 1.1K satellite for the Main Event. Always weak fields in these things but the blind structure is pretty fast. I go from 6K down to 4.5K within the first round. Not really optimal play. I take back about 750 of those chips on bad river bluff tbh.
The blinds end up going up, no one busted the first 1.5 hours which is pretty detrimental to this type tournament. You really need to build a stack as blinds escalate quickly. Exactly what happened. I get it all in eventually with 3.2K stack at 200/400 with 66 v AK... didn't work out for the 66. It happens.
Craps or PLO? What's the difference :P
I insta text wife I am taking a break. I think CRAPS! YEA BABY ROLL THEM DICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then I remember something: CRAPS is F&*(in expensive if you lose. Why not play some high stakes PLO!
So I get on the list of PLO 5-5 blinds 10 Mandatory straddle. They called my names for the Kings room.
PLO higher stakes:
PLO can either be one of three games:
1. Everyone limps, sees a flop, then proceeds - normally found in AC or with other older Americans playing
2. Some people limp, gets potted, everyone calls and sees a flop and proceeds. Usually happens with one Swedish player... maybe German... generally the game I love.
3. No-one dares limp, raise, pot, get it all in.. reach for more money... rinse repeat - Always happens when you have Swedish/Norwegian friends in the game. Hold on to your pants, start taking shots because you are going to be F*()king rich.... or walking home!
The game that I was called for was the type 2. It was fantastically soft. We had the older gentlemen (2) getting it in weak with under straight draws, non nut flushes, rebuy. We had the passive players who just check everything/play straight forward. We had a Asian kid (AK) trying to push the action which works.... when you get the cards, sometimes, against the right villain. Literally I think there was 3 fairly competent players (CP) at the table. Juicy game:
Example Pot:
Raised preflop to $60 by AK, 6 callers.
Flop 8
6
3
Asian pots, loose old guy calls for less, decent villain flats, lady calls for less.
Turn Js - AK checks, CP checks
River: 6c.
Asian kid bets $525
CP raises all in for 2.4K more.
AK tanks for 8 minutes...
Relevant history CP bluffed AK out of 1.5K pot earlier in session when straight hits river.
What do they have?
I ended up winning a few hands here and there with well timed bluffs/flush draw with right Ace. I took down a decent 2K pot with A
2
KQ on a T
9
A board when turn hit nut clubs and old guy chasing second nuts calls my pot bet.. Plan was to CR all in on the flop since I was SB, but another CP who had the straight draw checked the flop in position...grrr. Anyhow it was a nice pot.
Ended up 1.7K for the session. Def nice to win something!
Anyhow I am off to Wynn this AM for their 100k. I will finish Part 2 day 2 later on - Spoiler alert: The Giant is coming!
