You must be fairly young if you don't think of, or remember, the Riviera as "a legitimate hotel and casino." Here are the names of a few of the entertainers who performed in its showroom back in the day: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Louis Armstrong, Tony Bennett, Barbara Streisand, Steve Martin, George Carlin, Liza Minelli, Joan Rivers, and David Brenner.
Dead, dead, dead, nearly dead, well-preserved, alive and well, dead, should be dead, dead, dead.

The days of Riviera being a legitimate hotel and casino were indeed a long time ago.

What is going to happen with sportsbook future bets? Will will hill honor them somehow or do we need to get our money back?

Anyone else find it odd that they didn't wade out the two Rock in Rio weekends before imploding? Surely they would have averaged damn close to 100% occupancy.

So I just checked in here at the riviera for its final night. Parking was packed, lady who checked me in only had a smoking king so I asked for resort fee waived and she insta agreed. Only one elevator running. Ambience is creepy. On 22nd floor but just heard a loud voice yell THE POOL IS CLOSED.

So I'm spending the last night the riviera is open here. Gonna gambool up and see what I can see and commune with the spirits that a sixty year old property has lurking.

I'm heading down there tonight. I've been in and out all week compiling info and pics for several columns. They were playing some really depressing music earlier today. Hopefully that isn't the case tonight.

I figure this will be the last night the outside lights are on. To me, that is the coolest part of the property. I hate to see it go as it adds to the drive up that part of the Strip.

If possible, please post some of those pics in this thread..or at least let us know where we can go see them. Would be pretty cool to see.

Well guys, I hadn't planned on it, but I wound up as the final shooter at the riviera. Around 1:50, pst, not the pot boss, but some dbag with a bowtie came up and called last shooter...me. then, after I hit a three, he called last roll, and I hit a ten, a fine point...but he called it game over. The table erupted, we all yelled and screamed - this is how you want the sixty year history of the riviera to end? Someone hitting a point then just calling it over? But, it was done. Rip riviera - even in death, your management ****ed you.

I know some on this thread don't get the draw of the nostalgia of an old property like this but I'll tell ya what, that's a pretty cool story. To tell your grandkids you were the last shooter at the Riv waaaay back in May of 2015!lol

I submitted 95 pics to an editor and got 3 videos of the "Crazy Girls" statues getting loaded on the truck. They just about tipped it over on themselves. Here are the videos of Crazy Girls statue removal:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOvahfX5EH4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5i-SSjLdR0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i45W6F7AJVw (this is where they just about dump it over)

The quality is poor. I climbed up on a support pillar to get a better view and had to do it with one hand so it was shaky. Youtube's editor clouded the video some trying to fix that. It was all in the shade with a fully lit background so that didn't help.

When the announcement came at noon today there was a round of applause and some singing. There were people stealing signage like the min/max bet at the tables and signs outside doors. A couple of women were dancing on and laying on the craps table until security put an end to it. Otherwise it was relatively uneventful but I still wouldn't have missed it for anything.

Are they going to auction off stuff like the Crazy Girls statue?

Crazy Girls is moving to Planet Hollywood. That is where the statue was headed today. The remaining stuff will go into liquidation. That sale starts on May 14 on the Riviera property.

Lol, last night in this thread I saw a little something about being charged by ten black girls and some booby being grabbed. Now it's not there. Seemed relevant to the Riv.

Had a room booked and there was supposed to be no fee/deposit, they charged $50 to my card anyway. When I called to explain that I no longer had a reservation and I had found out they had charged me...told them I'd like repaid, clerk said yes no problem that will be in your account in next 7 days.

Still waiting.

Bastards.

How long ago did you talk to her? Do they still answer when you call?

Off situation, never thought about things like that happening, but I'm sure it's happened to lots of folks.

Just dispute the charge with your credit card on account of impending implosion. Easy game.

Did anyone from here go to the auction? (saw it was packed on tv)

Its the next 3 days from 10-7 for 10 bucks and then free after that. Was thinking of checking it out just for the hell of it and making one last walk through the Riv. Hit my first ever royal flush on vp there for about 1500 and some change, ah the memories..

Spoke to them the day before closing, obv the clerk didn't mention they were closing next day and just told me what I wanted to hear to get me off the line. Didn't try calling again as it'll be a waste of time.

I went there today and picked up three lighted promo signs. One for the comedy club, the magic show, and the Pinball Hall of Fame. Most of the signs were sold already, including everything having to do with Crazy Girls and virtually all of the "R Classics" pics that involved past headliners.

Most of the people there were buying hotel furnishings. They had only a few floors in two towers open.

There is very little left to buy that has a Riviera logo on it. There were a couple of other comedy club promo signs ($95-$145), many "40 is not the new 20" signs ($95), all of the restaurant signs, and some table games ($750). AFAIK all of the logo glasses, cards and tournament chips are gone.

They had plenty of R door handles in the old UPS office. They want $350 for those.

They have a 10% admin fee on all items plus 8.1% sales tax.

There was virtually no line to get in today. We were in after about a 10 minute wait. The line to buy items was 15 minutes +/-. If you just want to wander around it wait until Monday when it is free. In fact, unless you want one of those last few promo signs not marked as sold, I see no reason to rush. Most of the one-of-kind items are already sold.

This is all a bunch of non-news. We know they were going to demolish Riviera. That was the point of buying it.

I think LVCVA is stalling. They don't intend on building the convention center immediately. If they implode it, they are going to build a parking lot, just like they did at the International property. They don't have the financing in place. They should have before getting into this. The public was thought to believe it was to justify the 1,000 jobs lost, not to mention the classic resort.
