There are numerous reports that Riviera Las Vegas will be bought by the Las Vegas Convention Center and imploded.

A few Las Vegas locals have also tweeted it. An official announcement is expected on Feb 17, according to these reports.

Weird you should post this. For some reason, I just watched the top 10 Vegas Casino implosions. I was there and watched the Dunes get blown up in 1993 by the cannons from Treasure Island. About 3:40 in if you want to skip ahead. (And no, I don't think the cannons actually blew up the Dunes)

I watched the Clarion one this week from Riviera's old employee deck. I figured I might be on the site of the next one.

Oh I hope this isn't true for only one reason.... In all our Vegas trips we've never made it to the Riveria, except just driving by in a cab on the way downtown. We've always said we wanted to go just to say we did and also see the Crazy Girls show. We were just in LV 3 weeks ago and I'd hate to think we missed it for good. To be clear, I don't think we've missed much, I'd just like to go to say we went.

If you miss out and want to see it, just pop in the first Austin Powers movie. That's really pretty much as close as you need to get.

It is an old relic that could only fit in downtown. It is the last of its kind on the Strip, which is why I don't want to see it go, but I can see how it isn't financially viable. There is nothing to draw people there other than it being 60 years old and completely out of place.

Hopefully not gone, but if so, farewell Riviera: the closest I got to knowing ye is when my little sister and I went to Adventuredome at Circus Circus in 2003...

It used to be a nice place. When I would go in football season, I could check the lines in the Stardust, Circus Circus, and Riviera all within a half hour. I would stay there often.

I stayed there a couple years ago when a 2p2er was managing their poker room and they were running a promotion. The place had faded quite a bit.

Wonder what the convention center wants with it. It's quite a distance away for them to make it a parking garage or anything like that.

The convention center is looking to double its space. It already owns the huge parking lot next to Riviera on NW corner of Paradise and Convention Center Dr where the visitor center is. I picture a large connected, sprawling building that would resemble an airport that would flyover Paradise, kind of like how it does over Desert Inn.

It's the only will hill sports book on the strip. Otherwise gave to walk in behind Ballys to Ellis island if no vehicle on a trip, or go downtown.

Better than that, watch RobertDe Niro, Joe Pecsi, Don Rickels, etc. do their thing in Casino.

For any old Howard Stern fans out there, I saw Jackie the Joke Man do a stand up show in a penthouse ballroom overlooking the strip there in the late '90's.

The blackjack scene from The Hangover was shot at the Riviera. Here's a short video about the making of that scene that talks a lot about the Riviera:

There is a Will Hill book at SLS.

sick read by me.

My roommate and i were debating on whether or not to go watch the implosion of the Clarion a few days ago but didnt (wish i wouldve gone now) and i told him i bet the next place to go is Riviera. Next will be stratosphere followed by hilton or whatever its called now and for some reason i have a feeling circus circus survives.

-cool story bro

Terrible news for me. I get comp room there during the summer. Plus they gave me a free cruise last year(worth 1600).

we shall see GUY, my roommate called my crazy for saying the riviera was next to go as well. I dont care one way or another but i just dont see how any of those hotels can be making any money at all.

I get it, they have a cool sportsbook but just not seeing it.

LVH was purchased by Westgate and much of it is being remodeled, including the rooms, as part of time shares. The sports book is getting a complete makeover that will compare to Lagasse's Stadium. There is a 0% chance that property is going anywhere in the next 5 years.

I also can't see why you think Stratosphere, which is not even 20 years old, has one foot in the grave. Then you think Circus Circus has some viable use in its current state?

Also, these rumors were already floating around when Clarion was blown up earlier this week so nobody was crazy to think that at the time.

Not going anywhere the next five years? They're putting a billion, with a B, into that property. I worked there at the time of the purchase by Westgate.
