It is important to note that machines that pay an "in-house" progressive are ineligible. It says this on the sign.

The machines that are eligible for the promotion (and the eligibility requirements go both ways) are clearly labeled now. That is if the machine is good for what we'll call stage one of the promotion (losing), it's also good for stage two (cycling through the free play).
This morning I spoke to someone with the Riviera players club and she told me no progressive machines are eligible for the promotion. Including Wheel of Fortune.

Can someone confirm this?

Re: Riviera $1000 Slot Freeroll

No KingBB, VP is fine as long as it's the $1 machines or less, so that's $5/spin at optimal max credits.

That's something they changed a day or two into the promotion, specifically at 10am yesterday.

JW, don't know who you are, but that's incorrect. You spoke with one of those $9 employees that doesn't know crap. The progressives that don't count are the ones with in-house jackpots like the machines that have $12k, $20k, $30k jackpots. They will be labeled accordingly.

DoubleJoker, you mentioned "multi-line," and one category of machines that's excluded is multi-line VP and triple, five times, and ten times play. Also, $25/spin is the highest denom machine at the Riviera. LOL. We were in the high limit room, which has maybe a dozen to 15 machines.

My main concern would be players that were actually playing when the terms changed. They would have an ugly scene if they tried to not pay me as they changed the terms of the promotion while I played. You would have thought they would change the terms at midnight. This just goes to show you how hard they got hit. They had to change the terms in the middle of the day.
High denom VP and video craps, BJ and roulette were supposed to have been excluded from the beginning. That they weren't labelled was an oversight which has been corrected. Anyone who played as of the day the labels were added would still get their rebates.

The promotion hasn't changed in my mind, though I can definitely see how it appears that way in this thread. I don't regret the post at all. The Grand Guarantee still stands and is still the best slot promotion in town; maybe just not as great as what some had hoped for (and what some received).

FWIW the Grand Guarantee was not my idea, though I think it's a great one. We did a similar promotion last year that was capped at $200 loss and rebated 50% on the same trip - somewhat similar to what Trop and Cosmo came out with at the same time.

And, no, there was no hard hit. I think we actually ran pretty good against the fleas...

Just called again and spoke to the same lady. She confirmed what you said.

In house progressive machines. Not eligible.

Wide area progressives like Wheel of Fortune. Eligible.

Re: Riviera $1000 Slot Freeroll

So this promo went from great to very good?

-$1 VP at $5/spin or take a shot at $25/spin slots..
-Play until you hit a decent score or lose it all.
-Run your free play though .25c VP (even penny slots would probably be fine)
-Get at least $800 back, plus an extra shot at making some profit.

I can't see any way you lose more that $200 over 800 hands of quarter video poker even with bad payouts. I'm not great with figuring that stuff out, but I would think you would have to run horrible to lose any more than that. I don't think it could possibly be much more that an extra $100 in the rare event it does happen. Maybe we can get someone else to do the math on that.

Still, it looks like this is about a $200 risk for a shot at hitting a $1-$4k jackpot or (more likely) hitting a small $500+ score.

Just have to hope they don't change it again, because its still awesome.

Now I need to decide whether to make a special trip to LV just for this promotion.

I had reservations for July which I want to keep.

I would like to hear guesses from members of this board how long this promotion will last with the current rules.

You must get your free play by 11:59pm on first day you play. A few months ago the players club was moved to the cage, and I assume you can make players club transactions 24 hours a day. One of the players that hit the promo can say for sure. I have not been back in a while.

No one has commented on him calling people fleas? Or is this guy deemed a delusional scumbag not worth a response?
