rental car or cab

So I usually go to Vegas couple times a year but last two years have been bad for me so i haven't gone. I'm going the week after xmas this year and staying at NYNY. I plant on playing poker @ the B and Aria. not sure about the wynn. My gf is w me. On previous trip, I always rent a car because you can get a great deal on priceline. But it was a hassle to get a car in and out of the parking garage. I tried both valet and self-parked and it about the same. I tend to wonder off the strip so I like to have a car. I tend to think most people just take cabs, so are your thoughts on it?

I think you called it right for on strip I'd use a cab. The garages and traffic are a real hassle. I was in a rental at PH and the walk was 20 minutes or better and the garage was full so it was a real pain in the b..h..d

Re: rental car or cab

First couple of times I went to Las Vegas I took cabs.
Then, I discovered how much cheaper, and easier it was to just rent a car. Especially with the new rent-a-car center at mccarran.

Plus, it's nice to have the freedom of being able to go anywhere you want, whenever you want, without having to line up with all the vomiting club goers at the V or Palms at 3am after a bad session.

I always rent a car and valet always works great. Quick and convenient. Also More flexibility in going to different places and doing "stops and starts" when needed.

Works great at airport for pickup and drop off.

Rent a car if you're 25 or older. Parking is easy just go with valet, sometimes you got to wait a few minutes if it's busy though.

Yes, use Valet everywhere. Tip a buck or two. Rent the car. Your cheapest bet is to do a search for FOX Car Rental. Their prices are about half the rest of the rental companies because they are located off of the airport. I know that sounds her scary or difficult; however, it is not. You take a bus to the car rental place at the airport. Then you take another bus from there to FOX. I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes for the second bus. Five minutes for a savings of a $100.00 a week. It is worth it.

Does no-one like to drink or do you all just drink and drive?

My first time in Vegas I had a car, but that was only cos I drove in from LA.

Never felt the need for one since.

Is this a city bus or a shuttle bus? How much does the bus cost?

I am done using cabs in Vegas after getting raped so many times. It only makes sense since I dont drink as much as I used to. I stay off strip at the Palms or M and just "visit" the strip once or twice per trip. The value and gaming is much better obv.

Re: rental car or cab

I always cab it. When in Vegas I'm playing poker 12 hours/day and don't sight see or do anything away from the casinos. Plus I don't like watching how much I drink.

If you wanna see the real world nearby I guess there's an upside to renting a car. Depends on your type of trip.

Re: rental car or cab

Get a car. You can always cab if need be. Unless I'm 100% certain I'm going to drink heavily, I drive. Then if I don't drink, I just drive back. If I drink, I take a cab back and pick the car up the next day.

OP, learn the ropes of driving in Vegas and you'll enjoy it much more. For Wynn and Venetian and TI and Mirage, self-park. They all have good parking garages that are short walks from the poker room. Only been to Aria once. I self-parked and it was fine, but dunno the valet experience. Bellagio, use the north valet.

Re: rental car or cab

Also if you want two family drivers, Avis is the only one I know that does not charge for the second family driver. The others charge 10 to 25 per day and that can add up. For two family drivers Avis is the cheapest.

Re: rental car or cab

enterprise has the 9.99 weekend special 42.44 for the fri-mon with no insurance...like 130 i think with "basic coverage" (liability not included)...but you have to pick up from non-airport locations...worth taking a cab to grab the rental for this price IMO...

disclaimer: i work at enterprise
disclaimer to disclaimer: i hate my job and enterprise...but it is a good deal! fml
