Uber has an option for the summer where you can buy a 7 day pass that will give you 5 rides a day (up to $30 price per ride) for just $26 a day. You need to buy a 7 day pass to get the $26 per day price. 1 day pass is $45. If your trip goes over $30 in value, you pay for anything over $30.

This is really good value for someone who doesn't want to deal with car rental plus gas plus insurance costs.

So $5 per Uber ride but you need to take 5 Ubers a day to get max value. Can have up to 4 people in the Uber car per trip.

Uber/Lyft is $1.10/mile after the $1.70 booking fee and $2.20 initial start fee, plus 3% tax to Nevada

Cabs are $2.88/mile after the $3.60 initial fee, 3% tax to NV, $3 credit card processing fee.

Both charge a $2.20 tax to McCarran National Airport.

Uber/Lyft would take a 2.5x surge or higher to come close to Cab fare the same distance. One caveate is that if Uber/Lyft is surging, that means there's a shortage of drivers, so in addition to paying more, you're waiting longer for the ride. Most properties have a cab line full at all times unless it's a huge show/club let out late at night.

I live downtown, my last Lyft ride to McCarran was $13.11 (including $2 tip). On the way back, there was a 25% airport surge and 15-20 minute wait for a Lyft/Uber so I went the option of a cab. I got "tunneled" by choice to shave off about 10 minutes of the ride and my cab ride was $38 (+$5 tip).

It's a huge difference. Sometimes if I'm in a rush or busy answering emails/texts for work, I'll take the awkward silence of a cab ride over the constant pandering of Rideshare drivers for extra tips. It gets really annoying getting into an Uber/Lyft and hearing the driver go over their spiel that they do with every rider. Usually in that speil comes a mention of how good or bad their tips have been lately, or constant compliments to you for the entire trip.

Do you have a link with more info on this?

Apparently Uber doesn't want anyone to actually buy this travel pass thing because there is NO WAY to find this offer without a direct URL. I'm pretty sure this is legit because it's a subpage of uber.com but here it is without any referral codes or anything:

https://www.uber.com/info/travel-pass/

Enjoy!

Valid only for UberX or UberPOOL. Does this tend to mean crappier cars/drivers in a place like Vegas?

Uber Travel Pass for Las Vegas looks like a decent option for folks staying off strip and commuting to Rio.

Uber X drivers are same/similar to all other Uber drivers..

You might want to check the fine print the strip is not in Las Vegas city, google las vegas to see the city limits

-------------------

The Uber Travel Pass is non-transferable, and package details vary by city. Pass valid for a maximum of 5 rides per day starting and ending within the city of Las Vegas, up to a $30.00 value per ride. If the total ride cost exceeds the maximum value, you’ll be charged the remaining amount (based on time and distance). Valid for UberX and UberPOOL only. For the avoidance of doubt, your use of the Uber Service through the Uber Travel Pass remains subject to Uber’s Terms of Service and the Uber Travel Pass is considered a “Promo Code” under the Terms.

I am not an expert in this and I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure they mean the Uber defined area of Las Vegas. They are probably trying to avoid people using this in LA or something like that. I would be SURPRISED if Uber wouldn't let you use their service on the strip. What good would this be?

I think you are reading too much into that part of the fine print. Where exactly is included in "the city of Las Vegas"?

When I used to drive Uber in Vegas for 4 months, they would often throw out promos for 75-100 rides a week originating in "Las Vegas". In the fine print, the strip area considered "Paradise, NV" did not count towards the promo. Uber usually has no qualms about screwing drivers over but it would be messed up if they pulled this on the rider side as well.

I was going to look into it for my kid but for us it is worthless without Henderson. I wonder how that promo deals with surge pricing vs the $30 max.

I took it to mean "no Ubering it out to Pahrump."

Also, here's an outline of "Las Vegas" on Uber's web site. It was enough assurance to make me get the pass.

Please update us after you take a few trips that involve parts of the strip and/or Henderson. I'm pretty sure you are right but people got me doubting in this thread so want to find out for sure before recommending what seems like a great deal to more people.

You bet. I'll have an answer for you a week from tomorrow, complete with pick-up spots and destinations. If I DO get screwed, well, at least it'll be a teaching moment for the rest of you and it won't have been for nothing.

Thanks! Hopefully you don't get screwed. It would be pretty shady for Uber to pull that crap. What tourist doesn't consider The Strip part of Las Vegas?

Can confirm travel pass worked fine for McCarran to Spring Valley this AM.

Nice part is that the app clearly tells you the ride you are hailing is going to be free by listing the estimated fare as $0.00

Heads up on (another) rental car scam.

I booked a rental from Payless for ~$80 for 4 days. I knew they would try to add roadside assistance and insurance, so I told the woman upfront not to. She complied. No problems.

The original plan was to uber my last 3 days, but then I found a deal through priceline for a rental from Payless again for $51.40. No brainer. I booked it, dropped the first car off and waited for my new car. Line was 45 minutes long and I was running close to missing the day 2 restart of a Golden Nugget tournament so I (once again) told the guy upfront I do not want insurance or roadside assistance. The guy produced my bill and the price was higher than i reserved under. I questioned why and he said that I asked for minimal insurance.

I told him again, no insurance and showed him the price I booked under. He told me he could get me a better price. Came back with $39. Alarm bells went off. I knew there was a scam. I quickly glanced at the bill, couldn't spot the scam, and signed it. I then raced to GN for the restart.

Looked over my receipt the next day and noticed that he changed my reservation from 3 days to 1 day. So now I was on the hook for late fees and a rate of $39 per day.

Called the McCarren Payless and no one ever answered the phone (and voicemail full.) Called the Payless HQ and they told me that I signed for 1 day. Nothing they can do. I ended up keeping the car for the full 3 days and when I returned it I raised hell. The woman eventually honored the $51.40 price.

Has there ever been a class action lawsuit against these places? I mean they must be scamming 100s of people a week.

There are about a bazillion bad reviews of Payless and zero good ones. Do sixty seconds of research?

Orleans to Flamingo, with surge pricing in prime time. No problema. At days end, I'll be in for 50ish dollars worth of rides.

AirBnB to Rio, $7.41

Friday:
AirBnB to Planet Hollywood $9.18
Planet Hollywood to Rio $8.64
