I think that is the common misconception/thought process about these games/casinos... I am not passing judgement based on skill sets or talent. What I see when I am at these places is more of a shift in playing styles, whether good or bad, and not making adjustments to this will yield horrible results.

Thinking you can bully or spend your way into a +EV afternoon at one of these places, can definitely be a recipe for a LONG day at the tables... unless you are running hot that is. I think I have never seen pocket kings or pocket aces smooth called anywhere near as much as I have at red rock.

I also wanted to add I have experienced the same "favoritism" or questionable ethics at some of these locals properties. I mean when the dealer starts talking about hands that have just gone down with a local player, I find that somewhat disturbing.

To comment on and clarify the whole, wtf I was only gone 10 minutes, and I was picked up thing... even if you put your chips down and are swiped in but have not posted a blind before missing a blind (i.e. sit down with chips to lock up a seat but not play a hand), they will pick you up. This happened to me once. It was a total wtf experience, and someone was able to explain this to me. To put it nicely, it seems to be a unique rule to RR. I'm sure if you were an 80 year old reg, the floor would allow the brief absence and ignore the rule.
Nobody even tried to explain it to me. They just told me I was gone longer than the limit allowed which sounded impossible to me. Imagine showing up to a table you were seated in and your table tells you that you got moved to main game. Then you go to the new table and it is full and the dealer tells you to go to the floor after being gone no more than an orbit's time.

The floor even refused to put me at the top of the waitlist for the game too. It was a very irritating experience that I could be picked up simply because I got moved to the must move game when I was not at the table.

While playing, I saw lots of positive and I certainly know I probably ran bad to have such a thing happen so I can dismiss that by itself. The soft play/collusion in the O8 game that seems to not bother the staff is the major turnoff to me. I only play non holdem so w/o that O8 there is nothing else there for me to play.

These issues happened at night. The day O8 crowd seems OK so I may try it again during the day one day that I don't feel like driving to Venetian.

Re: Red Rock Poker

I play at Red Rock 2-4 days/week and some players are definitely better than others...doesn't take long to figure it out when you're sitting at the tables. Generally I play pretty aggressively compared to most people that play $1/2 there and a lot of the older regs don't care for my standard $12-15 preflop raises...pretty easy to get paid when I hit a good flop and easy to fold when they are leading out with their TPGK when I whiff the flop. There aren't too many young/super aggro/internet player regs there.

In both cases a player got all in multi way before or after the flop and two players were left with chips and they verbally agreed to check the hand down and showed cards before seeing turn and river. The dealers did not care and the second time I got the floor involved who seemed indifferent as this this was not a big deal. He told me later that "it is a friendly game where everyone knows each other, it is not a serious game" or something. That was the last time I played there.

Maybe I am a nit but if I get all in and two players openly collude to check so they can draw out on me for free that is blatant collusion, even if it is unlikely to change the hand it could have. Since the room did not even issue a warning to the players I decided I would play elsewhere.

Another time I was in a must move and got moved while I was getting something to eat. When I came back to the game my chips had been picked up for taking too much lobby time even though I was gone for 10-15 minutes and was never even dealt a hand at my new table my chips got moved to. Another player at the new table told me my chips were there for only a couple of minutes and they came back and picked me up.

I guess I just have not had the positive experiences you guys have had. I live 5 minutes from Red Rock and play elsewhere although I like everything else about the casino.
(shudder) sounds like local nits run the room. Is it considered bad manners to check-raise there, too?

I play in a juicy home game where I'll agree to run it twice with certain guys to keep them happy, etc. but I can't take it when there is a short stack all-in and somebody asks me if I want to check it down. Last time I responded with, "so do we give Tommy (the all-in guy) his money back?" The response I got was a blank stare.

Good info, though. If I end up at Red Rock, at least I know what I'm getting in to.

Worst poker room aside from drink service. I personally hate playing 10 handed 1/2NL with 5 short stacks and 3 chops per orbit

Re: Red Rock Poker

I live right up the street and grind the tournaments there, the cash games are tight, there are a few regs that I noticed spewing at the 2/5 though I'm sure I've seen a few of you around if anyone plays the tournys and want to make a last longer or go over hands let me know

Re: Red Rock Poker

One thing that hasn't been brought up is that there is a big difference in playing there at 1pm vs. 1am. Totally different vibe and style late at night.

Re: Red Rock Poker

I live very close to the RR and almost never play there for reasons in MSchu and Pokeraddict posts. There is a fair amount of collusion and angle shooting among the regs if a non-reg is in the pot. You may find regs getting priority seating. This is a room where management is more concerned about regs having a good time than running a straight poker room. It also has a jackpot drop that hurts from a rake standpoint.

Just saw DC2LV post, I have no late night experience; mostly late afternoon to early evening.

Didn't you hit a BBJ there for $20k or $30k? I'd say that's pretty damn +EV!

They've been running a 30/60 Omaha 8/Stud 8 game for the last week, the game starts around 1 and runs all day

LOL at internet players who think they're poker players, and think their tic-tac-toeish form of the game requires intelligence.

Real poker players play ... real poker. You know: live poker.

Poseur poker players play the nit-city garbage form of the game known as "online poker." Then, because it's so easy to learn that form of the game, for ego reasons they claim that it's difficult to learn that form of the game, even though gazillions of other morons have "mastered" internet poker.

Brilliant.

Keyser, thanks for humiliating yourself, it was good for a laugh.
