Recommended domestic flights from San Francisco to Las Vegas? Recommended domestic flights from San Francisco to Las Vegas?

Hi guys,

I will be coming in from Asia and this will be my first time in the states. I will land in San Francisco and will need to book a domestic flight to Vegas. I have heard/read really bad reviews regarding United Airlines and hence i am pretty hesitant to book them even though they are slightly cheaper as i would prefer to have a peace of mind and avoid issues like lost/damage luggage etc.

Can i ask which Airlines would u guys recommend ? Thanks

I typically use United Airlines because they have so many flights a day, that if one gets cancelled/delayed you can usually jump onto their next available flight.

JetBlue is a good option too. Frontier might appear cheapest, but once you pay all of their fees they are often about the same price as other airlines.

Pretty much all the airlines suck. You might also consider Southwest, which has the most flexible policy for changing flights and doesn't charge for checked bags. Their website is flysouthwest.com

Try Jet Suite X.

You will thank me later.

Yes, it's slightly higher. Honestly it's such a short flight you can't go wrong, I'd probably purchase ticket based on which airline is located in same terminal at SFO where you arrive from Asia. That will make transfer to domestic flight easier.

Southwest and Virgin America are my go-tos, but honestly the flight is like an hour and the whole industry is moderately terrible so United is terrible but not that much worse than average.

There's no Singapore Airlines-style airlines in the US.

If you gave access to other airports besides SFO, realize that OAK (Oakland) and SJC (San Jose) have just as many flights to Vegas and are faster airports on general because of lower volume.

I would recommend leaving any luggage you don't need and just taking the essentials to Vegas. It will drastically speed up your experience at tge airports.

Unless things have changed, Southwest won't transfer luggage from another airline. You have to go pick it up yourself and check it in to Southwest.

Isn't that true of all airlines though?

Virgin/Southwest/Jetblue def the nicest commercial options. But it doesn't really matter the stories you heard about United aren't true - all the airlines suck

Not in general but it's probably true for all international-domestic transfers. At least some airlines will transfer baggage on domestic-domestic transfers.

Also, I somehow got the impression from the OP that he was here for another reason and planning a side trip to Vegas, so he wouldn't be transferring immediately. If his main destination is Vegas, the choice of San Francisco as a layover point should be scrutinized - LAX and SJC should be options.

Didn't used to be. I would get on airline A, fly to Hub City, change planes to airline B and pick up my bags from the airline B carousel when I landed.

But I haven't taken any long flights in a few years.

No matter the airlines : I always try to avoid San Francisco when coming from Europe and going to vegas, not because of the city itself, which is beautiful, but because I got stuck there at least three or four times, coming or returning from Vegas, and missing my connection because of the very specific and problematic weather around SF. Since then, I always try to fly to Los Angeles instead (awful city imo, but never had a weather problem there) or, as I'm coming from Europe, Atlanta..
