Excited to be playing in Vegas for the first time!

I'll arrive on July 19, and be there for one week. Seeing as the WSOP will have just ended, and temperatures are going to be through the roof, is the cash game action going to be terrible, or still OK?

I will be playing 1/2 + 1/3, and maybe a little 2/5, so the quality of 5/10 games or anything like that isn't relevant for me. Any insight greatly appreciated!

You'll still find games, but the 6 weeks or so between WSOP and Labor Day is arguably the slowest poker period in Vegas.

1/2, 1/3 is always running everywhere and always supersoft. 2/5 will prolly only be available at the big rooms (ABVW), it will be easier to find great games during WSOP, but still it should be good enough, so don't worry too much

This year, it might pick up one week earlier. Mayweather vs. McGregor is at T-Mobile Arena on 8/26. I'll be in town a week earlier when it's still gonna be slow, but there's never a problem finding a 1/3 game and at least at Bellagio and Aria there's always 2/5. I remember last summer, Wynn didn't always have a game going and Venetian didn't have any on weekdays. Might be different this summer though.

Supersoft you say? So I shouldn't be too worried about vegas games being significantly tougher than the games I have played at several casinos around the country? (at the 1/2 1/3 level)

The absolute slowest poker period in town is the week after the drunken cowboys leave and the week before Christmas..around December 15th to the 22nd, or so..

Supersoft compared to online (even at much lower stakes)
Soft to supersoft compared to higher stakes or same stakes in many other countries
Compared to the same stakes in other US casinos prolly around level, depends on which rooms are your baseline, but in any case easily beatable with fundamentals. Ofc there are always better tables and worse tables, just don't be afraid to change, in LV there are many poker rooms

Cool. I plan on hitting up the big 4, and then maybe checking out a few others (MGM, Caesar's palace?)

If you do find the games to be tougher they will probably seem nitty to you.

Thanks for the heads up. I probably wouldn't mind that- I hate tables where everyone limps in, then everyone checks to the river, so each hand takes forever (so most 1/2 tables)

Are tables mainly 9-handed, 10, or a mix?

You hate passive games? I absolutely love them and think they are by far most profitable. A game where no one bluffs and everyone plays straightforward is gold.

Games tend to be 9 handed in the bigger rooms. In other rooms it could go either way.

That's only good if there are actually decent size pots. If it's limp pre-flop and check it down unless you have a monster then it's boring as hell.

I want to be in games where people are raising pre-flop and you are getting multiple callers in addition to the quoted style of play.

There will be if you're the aggressive one. They're not limp calling K7 to fold top pair.

For someone looking to play 5/T+ around this time, how would it look?

Prolly somewhat limited options, best bets Bellagio, Wynn and Aria. The smaller rooms usually will have zero games above 2/5. Still you should be able to find enough games.

5/T+? Even during non slow times, Bellagio often is the only place to find a 5/T table during the day. In August, even at nights on weekdays, B might have the only 5/T game in town.

Finding anything above that is very hit and miss (mostly miss) unless you are willing to play significantly higher. If you are willing to play 50/100 or up, you can give the Bellagio a call and they might find some players that are happy to play with you.

The smaller rooms will have zero games above 1/2 or 1/3 except for the weekend or some special events and even then it's prolly limited to Caesar's/Venetian/PH. Last summer, on most weekday nights B/A/W were the only places that got 2/5 games going.

What's the next busy time of Vegas if I want to plan another poker trip after the WSOP?

Next WSOP. Nothing sles comes close. Not March Madness, not Super Bowl, nothing. Vegas will be plenty packed alright, but the poker is hardly different.

I think I'll plan to come out for cash games next WSOP then. I'm not a tournament player, but I'd like to see what the WSOP buzz is like. Is there a high point of the series?

Vegas poker is "normal" except for a few slow periods, which late July-August is one of. It gets back to normal or slightly better when football season starts.

In my opinion, unless you play 2/5 and up you won't see a big difference in quality of games during WSOP. 1/3 Is soft all year long. The players I stacked in June were all rec players on vacation and didn't even know WSOP is running.

Based on a look at Bravo, I feel like the "slowness" post-WSOP may have been overstated (though technically the ME is still going, so maybe the peak slowness hasn't hit yet, and I'm not sure how Monday generally compares to other weekdays [I think I read somewhere that Mon/Thur are more popular and Tue/Wed have less action])

How does the Wynn 2/5 game play outside of the WSOP? Because during the WSOP it's basically Bellagio's 5/10 game as everyone buys in for 1500.
