Back in a previous life I worked in the gaming industry.

1983 or so, a kid working as a barback at the casino I was dealing at took a $20 advance on his paycheck, and over three days ran it up to 17k. Quit his job and moved back to where ever he came from.

Ok here's a crazy story. I was in vegas a few years ago--on a comped trip(Hardrock room anyway due to some ridiculous video poker time at their old bar) I end up at NY NY with the intent of heading over to the Bellagio to watch and bet on Sunday night football. I was there with my nephew, and we'd had a brutal day of football at the Hard Rock and decided to play some blackjack. I took a limited amount of cash with the intent of hitting the ATM in the effort to limit my losses during the trip. Great plan there.

After a long afternoon of losing football bets, we settled in for some blackjack at NY NY. I had a total of, I think $300.00 on me. (that's the most I had) I proceeded to run that up and down at such wild swings it even amazed the floor. Inevitably, I ended up broke--but did get a free steak out of the pit boss for Gallaghers.

On our way to steak, broke--I hit the ATM for my remaining $200 tap for the day. We sat down again--and I ran that to $6700. Two hours later, offers for a comped room, and several delays on the reservation at Gallaghers--we grabbed a couple of shots of Patron and headed upstairs for a steak.

I've played A LOT of blackjack--and the swings are crazy. Even crazier is this. A couple of years later--on my annual trip with my wife and our friends (both teachers--both want to get crazy after school is out), at almost the same table--I did almost the same thing. $200 buy-in, rolled up to $500 per hand, resulting in a score of just north of 7k. Freakish to say the least. Almost the exact same circumstances.

Was it fun for the remainder of the trip? Oh yeah! Did I toss $100 bills all over the wife when I got back to the room that morning? Yep. Has it happened since? No way. I won this on a single deck game--and those seem to be tough to find these days. I hate that stupid 6/5 nonsense and wont play it. Off the strip is much better these days--at least in my once a year shot.

Play off the strip--press your bets when you have their money and you'll never know how things might work out. GL all

I play BJ with my dad when he is in the mood. Just about the only time I'm willing to play.

Sat down with $100 a few years ago, and grinded it all the way down to $15.
Then I got it back up to $100, stood up and went to the poker tables and took those guys for 600 before leaving.

have had a ton of good runs, one of the better ones was last year, completely wrecked and was getting crushed and down to last 300 bucks (had been betting 1-200x2), split it up, bet it...

Not as big as some here but, Couple days ago I sat down with $100 on a 6deck table (max bet $100 in Colorado)..

Slowly worked my way up to ~$850 over 3 hours or so..

I would basically play the $5 minimum bet until I felt like it was a good spot to try to up my bet.. I am not a card counter, although I know basic card counting strategy.. I mainly look for spots to bet bigger when there have been a lot of non-10's out recently..

Anyways, back to $850.. I felt it was a good time and put out $100 max bet.. I get AA, split them, get a 3rd ace, split again so I end up having $300 bet on one hand.. End up with two 21's and a 17. Dealer is showing a 7.
Dealer flips over a 4 and pulls the 10 for 21 and I lose $100 with two 21's showing. Would have been a great hand and really put me up big.

Cashed out after that to book a ~$650 win at 6-deck at $100 max bet.

I agree with Eco74 - if wearing a well-fitting pair of jeans, $20K along with standard items (cell phone, money clip / wallet with Credit cards and IDs, keys) is extremely cumbersome and uncomfortable to have in your pockets.

Wife works as a table games dealer. They work for 1hr 20min and then get a 20min break. Rinse, repeat.

Yesterday, a gentleman bought in for $4k and her $100min BJ table. After he bought in, she went on her break. Came back 20 min later and he was cashing out for $96k.

I was in Biloxi for the January WPT event in 2010. I was out there for 6-7 days and had not ran good. I was down my buyins in the events having played 5-6 ranging from $300 to $3000 and not cashing. I hadn't lost much in cash games but I was likely slightly down there, more/less even for my time there. I had about $2500 left on my last day there, played the $1000+juice multitable satelitte for the $10K ME, busted like 4-5 from the bubble, went to bar, proceeded to drink heavily.

My buddy who was traveling with me also had bad luck for the trip and went to bed early so we could get our ass up and limp off tomorrow. I took my $1500 to a double deck $25 minimum BJ table right at the entrance of the Beau on the right hand side. The details are hazy. I remember starting at $25-$50 a hand, having bad luck, getting down $400-500, and drunkenly deciding to go home big or bust. Black chips go to flying, shots and crown drinks being pounded. I start winning big. I vaguely remember one dude at the table at some point telling me to get up with like $10000. I tell him thanks but no thanks and start betting $1000+ a hand. I ran this up higher. At some point, while betting the table max of $2500, I start to sober up. I've got damn near $40,000 in front of me. I remember asking the pitboss how long a run like this could last - he says "no one ever finds out until it's too late" I push some more continuing to bet the table max of $2500 per hand.

I know I played for a good while up between $30K and $50K betting $2500 a hand. I don't know what possessed me but I wasn't stopping. I guess I thought I was going to run it up to six or seven figures. I don't know. Long story short, I gave most of it, but not all of it, back. I left the table with between $12K and $15K. This paid for my trip, covered my losses at the poker tables, and I might have still won $5000 for the whole trip. Crazy to think about after all that I won "two bets" When I got to the room it was daylight and my buddy was getting up to go home. I was pissed off because I only had like $14000 and not $50000. He was like "WTF happened?"

Oh probably the wildest run of BJ I ever saw was some military dudes also at the Beau Rivage one weekend. I think they had just got out of the service (or either one some kind of break I don't know how it works) from Iraq or Afghanistan and were in Biloxi for a good time. I was sitting down at a $25 double deck BJ game at the Beau betting the minimum. Two dudes sit down and the deck gets super hot. Although it's early in the day, the "drunker" one of the two begins pressing shortly into the run. This guy runs his $300-400 buyin into like $20000. I see him later that day at the same table betting yellows with a stack of oranges and yellows in front of him. The guy he was with tells me he is up close to $100,000. I believe him because of what I had witnessed earlier and because of the chips I see in front of him.

Of course, super late that night I hear him yelling three tables down in an argument with the pitboss and his friends about not letting him play anymore. I meander down there to see what is going on. From what I could tell from the conversation he had lost it all or at least a large percentage of it that night.

Last time I went to vegas (like 12 years ago) I won in 19 of 20 sessions downtown counting down the 1 and 2 deck games. Spread from minimum to $50. No idea how much I won after standard degeneracy.

A little before that trip I purposefully "snowed myself in" at a local indian casino and played for over 24 hours straight. They had some promotional bet were you could make a side bet on blackjack that paid 14 to one I believe (6 deck shoe) and I had calculated everything out as to when to bet it etc. The whole 24 hour session I was within +/- $200 and cashed out a $100 winner. There was a college kid sitting right next to me for 16+ hours of the session. He started out betting 5 and occasionally 1 on the BJ. Then he started to hit that BJ promotion and the next thing you know hes up 3500 and betting 100 a hand with a gator on the side bet. I kept telling him to put 2k in his pocket or get a room etc, but he kept playing and of course before you know it he had lost it all and was digging another $100 out of his wallet.

The best part was the dealer chick coming back to work and seeing me at the same seat at the same table and the "OMG WTF, you;re still here" look on her face.

gamblemania a few years back
started the trip with 1500 bones
by the start of day 3 I was into my friend for 300 bucks and on the ropes. By the end of day 6 I came home with a touch over 10k.

I was up a ton more, but decided to high roll it up and got stung.

The guy that I went with was the exact opposite. He started out up, and then ended the trip down. After we got home, he went to his old ladies place (they were separated at the time) and found her banging another dude. He went the casino, ran $100 bones into $10k, and then lost it all in the high stakes area. To this day, I'm still not sure how I kept him from killing himself.

Hey all,

Noobie to this board.

Overall I'm a losing player, big time. I haven't gone balls to the wall for a while, but will be doing so later this month. The funny thing is there are many times I'd buy in 10,000 and lose it all back, but that last 1,000 turned into 25k many times.

One of my favorite runs was with a friend at Majestic Star in Indiana. We went there with 700, and ended up leaving with $18,000 for me, 12,000 for him.
We got on a run with this guy named Todd, and we couldn't lose. I bought in for $400, my buddy, who had been fighting with his gf walks in, and buys in 150. He bets it all, gets a BJ, so he has 375, then bets it again, 750. One more time, $1,500. From there on our he could hardly lose, and either could Todd or myself. The thing was, we were averaging about $200 a hand over 5 hours, when the max bet was $5,000. We look back and REGRET we never bet the max. The three of us are toking purple chips, giving the cocktail waitresses black chips, etc. The most amazing part is when we sat down Todd was down to his last $50, he bet it all, 100, 200, 400,800,1600,3200. Most amazing thing I had ever seen....the guy was basically crying when we sat down and we were all exasperated when that happened, and we had the feeling the night would be special. Sipping on tequilas and betting big was a blast. They offered to comp us a suite but we had stayed there once before and the Majestic Star has possibly the worst beds I've ever slept on.

Another time I was there by myself. I had been playing at the low limit tables for a couple hours and was up 2k. I decided to take that to the high limit room where three asian guys from Northwestern were playing. I started and won 5 hands of 200-500 a piece in a row, and ended up cashing out 4 hours later with $28,000. I bet 4k a few times and would win one, lose another, but missed a string of a 7 or so hand winning streak without any large bets (more than $500).

It's funny because there have been times when I bought 10k and lost it in 10 minutes by going for the throat. Other times it seems that when I won big it was because i got a great streak and threw out some big bets, but nothing insanely huge.

If I can find the other thread I'll post about some sick losses. One night I was up 9,900 and lost that all back plus another 20k trying to get it back...LOL

I use to live in Vegas, and I worked as a caddie at Bali Hai golf course. I use to stop at the Orleans on my way home to get a little sports action for the night. One day i decided to play blackjack. I had 100 bill in my pocket. It probably took me about 2 and a half hours to run that up to 4500. Then i hit the wall. Took me about 1 hour to loose it. I WAS SICK. I was averaging about 150 dollars a day cadding, so ya that was alot of money to me. The thing i remember the most was I was starving and i went to the sportsbook to get one of thier 75 cent hot dogs, couldnt even cover that. Vegas can be a mofo
