Congrats Carl on 18 months of helping give back to the community, whether it's litter clean up or helping feed the homeless; you're putting a good face on the poker community.

I keep thinking I'll make it to one of these things, but I either have class or work/homework at that time. You're doing a hell of a job though, PA. Keep up the good work.

Thanks man, we will probably push the times back a few hours during the summer the avoid the harsh sun, maybe that could be more convenient.

The trash pick up is cool. Buying/supplying food is not because money not spent on food is money they will spend on alcohol/drugs. So you by feeding them you're supplying their habit indirectly it's really not that hard to understand. But like I said the trash pick up is cool. But even that could be done more efficiently via existing programs such as Adopt a Highway and other existing volunteer trash removal programs. And after all that said I believe your heart is in the right place but the implementation is what could be improved.

Thanks man. I'm sure this issue is debatable but I view the problem of hunger and the problem of substance addiction as separate. I don't believe that by not giving out food, it would help someone with there addictions. I think the better approach would be to give out food and clothes and perhaps provide inspiration to get clean and live a more fulfilling life. How anyone spends their money is a personal choice, I don't feel it is my place to judge them.

I agree, there are certainly bigger and more efficient organizations out there that have been around longer. I would like to visit some of them this year. My goal is to model PPVO after them and continue to improve our group that primarily consists of poker players to be a positive force in the poker community.

To simply categorize someone buying a homeless or needy person a meal as an enabler of assumed drug habits is quite a reach. There are countless non profit organizations out there doing exactly that in different ways, shapes, and forms daily. This way of thinking would also suggest that homeless shelters are just breeding grounds for more drug use. The fact is, people have choices to make every day. Some of those people are battling terrible addictions and there is no way around getting them to stop their habits without a support system around them to intervene. Does that mean they aren't deserving of a meal? Is every homeless person on the streets addicted and using drugs on a daily basis? If not, should every person down on their luck who have found themselves in this difficult predicament be penalized for the group that is? Does that also mean that by someone taking the time, energy, and financial means to provide said meal is actually just fueling the drug habit rather than simply providing a helping hand to someone in need of nourishment? Am I being naive in asking these questions?
