What you're describing can be done. But it happens in very, very few cases. You should read "The Millionaire Next Door" - its quite eye-opening. It will change your views on wealth in America.

I'm a first generation immigrant to the US so I didn't grow up rich. But I've always been around money and God has always blessed me, but more so in 2013. Money is not rare, holding on to it is rare.

Take your financial advice and questions elsewhere. Who cares if he doesn't spend anything else all year but splurged in Vegas, or he's gambling mortgage money.

You guys crack me up. :-)

My monthly budget is 4.5k if that helps. Everything else is invested. Yes, it is a high amount. I also own my house at 350k.

Woman get emotional over the most puzzling things.

Your fiancé is upset about what's happening in a strangers relationship - this is why soap operas and daytime TV shows do so well

It is likely that she's not legitimately pissed. It's called posturing. She is just giving her guy a warning not to do that to her.

One day has earned enough respect with his TRs, it was nice of him to share at all. He posted plenty even in this one. I'd love to see it finished too, but c'mon. Man

Sorry for the delay guys, but here you go!

Day five – The roller coaster

Where were we? Ah yes, Saturday morning and spa day. I had set my wife up with a mani/pedi, scrub, facial, and massage, which I joined for. She got started and I ended up joining her in the middle and then leaving. It was all part of the master plan to get some serious gambol in while she was being pampered. Of course to cover this expense I was going to need some serious winnings as we ended up dropping around $1300 on this indulgence.

So she was off to the spa by 10 and I had a couple hours so did the most logical thing and went to the Wynn side for some craps. They had several tables going and one was just going to get started. Bought in for 6k and we were off. There were only 3 of us, and just like always, I was the kiss of death. I literally picked up the dice and shot the point, and then 7. One guy had a decent roll to start, but his friend didn’t. He ended up making several points which helped to keep me around even. When he got the dice for the second time I decided to go big on the feature and so did he. I was talking with his friend and he was saying they tend to hit it a lot. Yeah right, but **** it… I hit a longer shot earlier in the trip. I threw out $100 on each one and $5 for the boys. Shooter also had $100 and his friend place $50. Shooter started throwing and I haven’t seen so many 5s and 9s before. He was throwing the length of the table and setting the boxcars up. It was an interesting roll because the point was 4 and he literally only hit it once in the entire time he was throwing. 2 more people came in during the roll but had chips so the game kept moving. The shooter also had some serious money in play as he was placing the numbers for around 2k each and bumping them up on hits. I ended up starting with $120 on the 6 and 8 and $100 on the rest. ($50 on that stupid point of 4 with full odds)

Well, he kept rolling that 5 and 9 and before I knew it those were both jammed up to 600, then 900, then 1500. At one point my 6 and 8 only had the 120 and 180 on it so I started moving some 5 and 9 winnings to cover a little bit more. It was then that it happened. They brought in a ****ing cooler. I have honestly never seen this happen before but OMFG they brought in a cooler. They brought in this girl who I can only assume didn’t even know what craps was. The box man was having to do all the math on winnings and show her what to do. Yes, she was dealing with some serious money cause she was on shooters side, but it slowed the game down sooooo much. We were all just staring at her, and even the stick man sighed under his breath. Now you might think, I am just jumping to conclusions, but to fast forward the story a bit, she literally left right after he sevened out… but I am getting ahead of myself.

The shooter hit his 12 and that’s when I realized we only needed the 11 for the tall and 2 and 3 for the small. Well like a champ (and a big FU to Wynn) he threw the 3 and followed with the 2. BOOM - $3500, thank you very much. Then he kept hitting the 6 and 10 and we were just needing the 56 one time. I threw out a $25 yo for the boys one time and sure as **** it hit. 175 to 1 or $17500 plus the tall of $3500. They had to pay this out 2.5 times as we all had a piece of it. I am sorry for the blurry pick but they had just yelled at one guy for taking a pic so I was trying to be sneaky when I cashed out.

Anyway, he rolled a bit more and at the end I ended up around +34K and left a **** load on the table. Shooter and friend colored up and I stuck around to dump 8k back in. What was funny, is as I was taking the shellacking, one of the other players asked what was up with the cooler. In those exact words too. Box Man got PISSED. He shot back, all of our dealers are competent in all games, and just stared him down. It was awkward for a couple seconds and we all pretty much colored up soon after. I get it, he has to defend her, but seriously… we all knew the drill on that one when you bring a baccarat dealer to a game she probably can’t even spell.

I left and went to get ready to join in for my massage. On the way I might have dropped 2k into another quick craps game… oh well

The massage was a great 80 min relaxation, and exactly what we needed. After, I left and my wife went on for the mani/pedi portion. She was planning on shopping after, so I pretty much had the day to myself until dinner. I went back and sat at a BJ table where I put in 10k in about an hour. Nothing magical, just one of those that I couldn’t hit doubles or splits for **** and was trying to break the bank, one time. Should have been playing free bet, would have saved a ton.

Decided to slow it down and went to PG for a bit. Sat at a table and was playing 500 a hand when another guy came up. I thought he looked familiar and sure enough it was the friend from the table this morning. We had a good time drinking and playing. He was playing 500 on two spots, and Anush was being Anush and making the game fun. I left up about 1k and went to get ready for dinner.

I was waiting for my wife to get back and when she did I could tell something was up. Did the massage go alright? Something happen while shopping? She told me her dad had a heart attack and that grounded everything. She spent some time talking on the phone for a bit and then we headed off to dinner. There was nothing for us to do, so we tried to have some fun. I also realized, what I was going to do that night, in terms of some bigger gamboling wasn’t going to happen as we would spend the night together in a time like this.

Julian Serrano was awesome. I didn’t know what to expect but man it delivered. She had to leave during the middle of it to talk with her sister, but overall we did have fun.

After, we played some PG at Aria which has an interesting layout where they scan all the cards as they come out and a machine will tell you the proper way to set the hand. It also verifies if the dealer got it right. We walked around a bit and walked through Cosmo after a while. We decided to go back to Wynn to finish up the night. When we got there she said she wanted to see me roll the dice a bit. Hell ya! We went to a table and my kiss of death was still there. I totally should have had her roll, didn’t even think about it. Even another guy made a comment about my point, 7, twice in a row. Did see Troy Aikman walking around and forgot to mention I saw Jim Boeheim as well earlier in the day. Someone mentioned there was a basketball camp going on. Anyhoo, put 2k in and decided I was not having fun so wife and I went to Encore side and played some PG. I actually have fun playing with her, and I can tell she likes it too, so I think we might have a new thing to do at night!

We called it quits around 1am and went upstairs to unwind and sleep for the trip the next day. That trip was pretty slow as we hit a traffic jam outside of a small town that delayed us 2.5 hours. I actual parked the car on the road and was walking around for a bit as we waited. It was like a scene from The Walking Dead… minus the zombies. The trip was great, and obviously ended up for it. I am thinking about maybe going up at the end of Aug, and if not then maybe in Nov. I’ll let you know!!

In terms of the other discussion going on about bankroll and stuff, I’ll just say that my normal life is pretty bland in comparison to this. I live by the adage from an old cartoon I saw once. Two guys are watching as the town millionaire stops and picks up a penny off the ground. One comments that he can’t believe someone so rich would bother to pick up a penny and the other says, “How do you think he got so rich”

Most of my life is about saving, investing, preparing for the future, and while yes the roll I brought is a third of my salary, it is a far less percentage of my net worth. I was very fortunate to get a well-paying job right away and continue my education to make more money. My wife did the same and was able to make a lot as well. Couple that with no student loans (thanks to our parents on both sides and poker) and we were able to start saving right off the bat. Also most of my bankroll comes from back in the online poker day where I was able to bank up a bunch while in grad school and such. I appreciate your concern but I will pull back the veil a bit on that to let you know that it isn’t as degen as one might think - My advice… stay in school and work hard and invest early. The rest is luck – like my house. We bought before it jumped up, sold at the high point because we were moving and rented when it crashed. We most likely would have bought instead of rented but we didn’t know the area so decided to rent for a year while we looked. It was also easy cause we didn’t have kids at the time and both my wife and I don’t need much. When we bought again we pretty much used the gain from the previous house which means my house was pretty much free. When you don’t have a house payment, or student loans and you make the money we make, your savings go up fast.

Hopefully the TR was good, and as always… I hope the next one is better!
