Last bump this week for Poker Church!

Come on by today, Sunday, any time between 2-5PM, someone will be there.
Perk Up Coffee on Southern Highlands Parkway, just north of where Dean Martin meets the Parkway. We've been getting great turnouts and look forward to meeting more of you.

Is this where someone tells me that Dean Martin died in some horrific car accident and I managed to unknowingly make a bad joke??? I hope not! I don't know how Dean Martin died. I know James Dean had an unfortunate demise, but I hope I didn't make a bad joke about Dean Martin

This was more like just a bad joke about drinking and falling over, by me

EDIT: For Jim_Beam's peace of mind, Dean Martin's passing via wikipedia:

Martin was diagnosed with lung cancer at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in September 1993, and in early 1995 retired from public life. He died of acute respiratory failure resulting from emphysema at his Beverly Hills home on Christmas morning 1995, at age 78.[12] The lights of the Las Vegas Strip were dimmed in his honor. His tombstone features the epitaph "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime", the name of his signature song.
Martin is entombed at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles.[13]

Does this coffee shop have football on TV?
10-15-2014 , 02:19 AM

wheydacheese is right about the tv being next door, but none in the coffee shop. Having said that (1) I think this leads to a more focused discussion and (2) it's a rolling start, so you can come any time between 2-5pm. That catches most of the gap between games. Hope to see you there!

Won 4k last weekend on the football. Maybe I should chill out on the degening. Cowboys play at 1 though.

I'm a tourist, but will be in town in a few weeks and wold love to come out if it's ok with you guys. I have recently started playing in a new (to me) game in town here, and the general character of the game has me a bit confused about best approach style-wise, as well as how to handle marginal situations. It is by far the best game I've ever seen that isn't a one-off...super Gamblor and many monied terrible players. The good news is that when I don't run bad* I smash this game, but I'm pretty sure that I'm leaving a lot of value on the table.

Hope to see you all soon!

*in the first 3 sessions I played at this game...

hero: AQ V: A8, A high dry board, gii on turn, 8 riv pot: $1400

hero: KQ V: Q 10 flop KQ5r, gii on flop (?!) turn J riv 9 pot: $2100

hero: AQ V: A2, see AQ hand above...same guy exact same runout w 2 on riv pot: $800

hero: 67cc V1: A5 V2 J5 flop 345r, I get action from both the whole way, runout: 67 lol

hero: JJ V1: A4 V2: A9 I 4! this pot and was called by both, flop AA5 I manage not to go broke

hero: turns nf, villain flopped middle set. gii on turn, run it three times. Boat, boat, boat pot: about 1300

Ouch, DDT.

I don't think anyone who posts here can call themselves a tourist.

Is this the sort of game where loose Vs are going to overbet pots once they hit? I'd say a couple of those spots you lose less if you go for pot control against competent players but I'm guessing that in your game you just have lick your wounds when you get sucked out on because obviously people aren't giving up if they hit any piece of the board.

One of the reasons I picked to run the group on Sunday's is so that we can catch visitors in town. So if people are in early for a convention or headed back to LA, they can stop by and join us. All are welcome!

DDT... you want those calls/raises!

results are not 100% indicative of probability, as we all know. that's why many say don't be "results" oriented, but instead be "process" oriented. In fact, the phrase "don't be results oriented" is misleading because process oriented play is guided by probability of outcome, which is itself a forecast of a result. The issue for results oriented play come from making changes in your play based on a realized outcome... that may or may not have been Ideal.

I will take hero's hands every day of the week.

Oh don't get me wrong I was simply whining about the results re: the runbad I mentioned in my post. I wasn't meaning to imply that these were the spots I feel I'm missing value/having trouble with. No, there was nothing at all wrong with those hands re: my ability to get people committing $$ to the pot while way behind...that's why I called it 'run bad'

Oh, and thanks all for the welcome...see you guys in a few weeks!

Last bump this week for Poker Church. Come by any time between 2-5pm. I'm also highly likely to do the 7pm Aria tonight. I'll exchange equity with any members that come and play too!

The girl at Perk Up Coffee really came through for us today! She reserved our table for us and everything. Very impressed!!!

and the free donuts as a win as well. had more thoughts on that purposed 'perfect program' will tell you next time...gonna go attempt to crush it (or be crushed)
10-19-2014 , 09:30 PM
Thanks to everyone that showed up today! More great discussion on GTO, Ed Miller's 1% book. I'm going to track down some of these tools and post links in this thread. Also, check out my thread about some members wanting to do the Aria 7PM on Monday 10/19/2014

so dude...just soul crushed the purportedly unexploitable software he was talkin bout over a significant sample size ...should have taken him up on his offer to pay/take $ based on my results. Beat me for a few hundred hands as I probed out about 5 exploitable tendencies (surprisingly not the ones I expected is why it took so long) then since it isn't live-action adaptive I just slammed it for the rest of 1000 hands for 62.5 BB/100 hands muwahahaha

*pretty sure I can repeat significant win over similar samples 4/5 times or so

*** I cant figure out how to use its hand import function which is too bad because I wanted to see what it would 'teach' me about what I did wrong in the analyzer.

^that said the program was pretty impressive in certain ways, exploitations aside...I think it would work over a LOT of people especially if they attempted to play 'correct'
