planning a visit - any recommendations for a good lowish buy-in poker tournament? planning a visit - any recommendations for a good lowish buy-in poker tournament?

Planning a solo visit to LV for a weekend, mainly to scratch a poker itch. I'd like to play in a decent size tournament, $200-$400 buy-in, any recommendations?

I played in a couple of the Venetian Deep Stacks tournaments 3-4 years ago and I liked those. Looks like they're running in February, and my default will be to show up for one of those (looks like ~17% rake, can I do better than that?)

Appreciate any thoughts!

If you want lower rake wait for the Wynn Classic.

Wynn > Every other casino on the strip for tournaments > Dog **** > Venetian

The nightly Aria 7pm is a good one. $125 IIRC, and gets a decent number of entries. Stay away from the $65 jobbers at Caesars properties...awful rake and structure.

Boskie seems to like Wynn due to low rake. I also love the Aria nightly.

Isn't $28 of the $125 Aria entry rake?

I think it IS pretty bad but still + EV if you're objective is getting hammered.

Aside from the Wynn or events that are $200+, that's a pretty standard rake in Vegas for dailies.

What are the tournaments at The Orleans like these days?

Nightlies are still pretty good. Sometimes they mix in games other than NLHE. Dailies have gone turbo - 15 minute levels but bigger starting stacks. I haven't played any of those yet, but my buddy says they get 40+. Sometimes up to 70.

Friday $125 7pms were regularly 225+ entries up until about a year ago. They've been hovering around 160-175 entries lately. The structure is very top heavy since they pay so many spots (usually around 18-25 places), but as far as difficulty it's one of the easier tournaments with a good payout.

Planet Hollywood has the $1500 guarantee daily turbos for $80. Usually pays 1-5 spots depending on the entries, but for a 2-3 hour tournament a shot at $850-900 for 1st is pretty good. The structure is fast, but there's no ante's in any of the levels so for certain styles you might be able to beat these at a nice rate.

Thanks for the updates...

I was wondering if the new parking situation would of made more folks show up at tournaments off the strip, but if you are saying that the numbers have fallen off the The Orleans then there must be another reason.

Anyway looking forward to stick my nose into these old refuge places.

The biggest problem with them is that they are held at The Orleans

I am also heading to vegas in late February from Houston, and I am looking for some decent low buy in tournaments with a good blind structure. The rake seems to be about equally bad in all of them, so I'm not really to concerned with it, but would like to at least get the most play for the money
