I keep reading that harrahs and Rio are dumps or bad places to stay, can someone give me some details on why that is? Any harrahs I've stayed at in other towns has been nice

Palazzo: loved it, great rooms, great casino, decent food.

Harrahs is perfectly fine - it's just not Wynn or Venetian

Harrah's is a good property. The rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, no bugs, I'm never worried about getting to my room when I am alone. It's in the middle of the strip, close to V, Caesar's, Bellagio, Flamingo, Mirage, etc. Free shuttle to the Rio until 1am. I have stayed there numerous times and it has always been good.

I have only walked through the Harrahs in LAS...smelled like a damn dive bar just from passing through their...lots of old people smoking crappy cigarettes. Cannot imagine the floors to the rooms are any better. It is simply one of the aged properties that knows its demographic and caters accordingly. Caesars has not invested the money into that property like they would one that was seeking to grab the people looking to spend beaucoup dinero on glitz and hype.

The Rio is not horrible or a dump. It is, IMO, overpriced for what it is location-wise and in terms of the limited dining selections. During WSOP time, it is definitely great (albeit overpriced) since they have such a variety of cash games going on at all hours of the day.

Thanks for the replies about harrahs and rio. I'm asking mainly because those are two places that I sometimes get comped rooms for. It sounds to me like I'd be fine with either one. One more question, I'm assuming both places have carpeted rooms like most hotels do? Lol thanks!

I stayed at the Rio seven out of the last eight WSOPs and it has gone downhill. It's not yet crappy but I made the change to Cosmo this year. Two years ago Room service at the Rio started coming in a paper bag with plastic plates and knives. That's just ridiculous for the money they still charge.

Supposedly they are changing back to real plates and utensils. Still better than Ballys that stops room service in early evening, or maybe late afternoon.

maybe because it is now likely the biggest dump on the strip.

and it carries the names Harrahs which once represented casino excellence... too bad.

next trip is Caesar's (Nobu) and Vdara again.

Vdara is my favourite overall, particularly factoring in value.
Venetian/Palazzo also good.

Mirage and Bellagio were dirty and old.

Seriously? I just spent 3 nights at Bellagio. Nothing dirty or old about it. Are you sure you weren't at Excalibur?

I highly recommend Encore. Great valet. Great self park garage. Rooms are awesome. Schlep to poker room fairly short. Longer now if your room's at Wynn. Great poker room; very comfortable. Bellagio? My room was a 4 compared to my room at Encore (9 ez).

Rio? Stayed there for years. Bathrooms in rooms are terrible. Mini suite nice. Big issue is poker room during rest of year (non WSOP) has poor action.

Best action away from strip? IMO, Red Rock. Decent spread; tough competition but just enough "blasters" to make a visit worthwhile. Rooms are VG...but expensive if you're not getting any comp relief.

Hooters the only place I've every stayed at that I didn't hang around.

IP was quite ghetto, but I was there for the whole WSOP and had to budget accordingly for most of it, when not in rooms handed out with online packages.

Burger Palace at 3am was good stuff

Cosmo probably my favourite ever hotell

Palazzo/Venetian have the best restaurant selection & base rooms, imo.

Always had a good time at the GN, and Fremont is a good laugh. Nice not getting spanked for $20 a cocktail for part of the trip, too.

I’ve booked palms place on Airbnb this year for wsop total 16 nights. Works out to 120 pn with no resort fees. After staying at all the resorts like vdara aria Bellagio etc and paying 200+ a night by the time you add up all the fees I got sick of the high costs.

Any thoughts on palms place? It’s like vdara but off strip and cheaper imo. No casino is a bonus for me

Think people that aren't smoking pot are the minority at Palms Place during the WSOP.

yep, I've considered it each year but always ended up going to a more premium strip property instead. I do think if I was ever going to stay 10+ days during wsop and play at Rio most days then it would be an option I'd strongly consider.

are you planning on playing at the Rio this year or will you be ubering to Strip to play? (I haven't checked but assume you can't walk to Strip from PP?

yeah in an ideal world i would stay at vdara again like i have in the past it just seems prices are going up and up. Im coming from australia so add cost of flights and a nice hotel on the strip im looking at alot of money.

I will always play Bellagio, Aria, Wynn 5/10-10/20/40 generally so rio is not a good option unless the 10/25 in the kings room is good. Plan was just uber in morning and uber back at night.

Just logged onto mlife, vdara for 14 nights (max nights you can book online) is $2770usd so 16 nights should be $3170 usd approx. Therefore thats $4450aud. I booked palms place for $2850aud.
