They don't have a special this week because they just remodeled the inside to add more seating and opened mid-week after being closed for two weeks.

Are you expecting a Joel Robuchon dining experience from a mom-and-pop hole-in-the-wall restaurant where nothing costs more than $9? Maybe I side-stepped my way from the "off strip/hidden gems" thread into the fine dining thread somehow and didn't realize it...
I just used mapquest to find out how long it would take. I exaggerated by 3 minutes. I live by 215/jones.

It's about a 10 minute drive from the Venetian...if it's that much of a hassle and you have no interest, then don't go there. For all others reading this thread, you can thank me later.

Raku, its a pretty legit Izakaya/Oden place. And if you are feeling a bit baller, call ahead and get the 15 course Kaiseki.

My wife & I went to Lotus of Siam today for lunch and I have to say that I wasn't impressed. I must be in the minority based on the reviews here and the fact that the place was packed on a Tuesday afternoon. The first thing that turned me off was walking past a buffet steam table set up in the middle of one room which appeared to contain a mixture of items that were either dried out or overly greasy.

Obviously, we ordered from the menu. Once our food arrived I began to feel better about the place. Neither of our dishes bore any resemblance to the slop that was on the buffet table. Both of our meals were very good and I would definitely go back if I happen to be in the area. But my wife and I both agree that the food did not rise to the level where we'd make a special trip from the SW side of town to go there.

Perhaps we just caught them on an off day, or perhaps they just go through the motions at lunch, but in any case, I find it hard to believe that this is the best Thai in town. As I noted above, I'll give them another try (perhaps for dinner instead of lunch) when I'm in the area, but I'm not going to make a special trip as I did today.

Perhaps you ordered the same generic drivel that most people order when going to a Thai restaurant and did not experience the myriad of dishes that they offer that are excellent. I'm sure their Pad Thai is not much better than the Archi's near your house.

However, my father lived in Thailand for 10 years, my mom is Thai and owns a Thai restaurant and they both agree that it's the best in the country. I mean, I dunno, they're probably wrong too.

LOL at stating Lotus is the best in the country because mommy and daddy told you so. That's almost as good as Mschu stating that he is a sushi expert because he's Japanese.

BTW, if Lotus serves generic drivel for the masses (even if they have other excellent offerings) that hardly puts them in the class of best in the country. Not to mention the fact that the buffet offerings alone should disqualify them from any such consideration. It's almost akin to claiming that an AYCE sushi buffet is the best sushi in the country.

And no, I did not order Pad Thai you sarcastic SOB.

You're right, their opinion along with every other food critic and all those accolades on the wall is wrong. You, however, are right.

That wine selection is awful too right? No Pad Thai, you must have stepped it up and ordered some basil beef and some Pad See Ew and some Satay.

The more I read of JayLV, the more I realize he's just some child parroting whatever group-think he picks in the clubs. I mean the guy would fluff his own father in a porn film if the girls in his club though it was cool

FINALLY. Someone else that has been to Raku. I was amazed no one mentioned it beside myself earlier in this thread. Great place.

Let's go back to your previous post where you stated that Lotus serves generic drivel in addition to other excellent dishes. You still haven't explained how the best Thai restaurant in the country could possibly do so. Perhaps you should place a call to mommy and find out.

BTW, just out of curiosity, are you always this bitchy or are you just on your period? Quite a feat for a man. Or in your case, that's probably too strong a word. Let's just say male.

I said that you probably ordered the same thing that every tourist does and expected it to be fantastic. Perhaps you should stop talking about my family before I start talking about your wife.

And yes, I'm always this condescending to people who think they're intelligent and able to critique food with no knowledge base. You went to Lotus, ordered the same thing you always get at some other restaurant and thought it was just OK because you have absolutely no idea what makes Lotus a great restaurant. And then proceeded to post about it like, oh well I drove 10 minutes and next time I'm just gonna go to Ping Khao since it's right around the corner instead because I can get Panang Curry there. You're basically saying that you like the California Roll at Goyemon the same as the one at Nobu so there's no reason to go to Nobu.
