I don't get the "NHL fan population". If those numbers can be believed, every night should be a sellout. Which tells me they can't be believed.
im an massive fan of nhl, i watch the games everynight as well as sportsbet on them. id classify myself as a very avid nhl fan and i live in a big market.

never seen a live NHL game in my life. ...

Spoiler:

NHL hockey live is the GOAT sports experience imo. and I love MLB & the NFL but live they don't compare to the NHL. it's shocking how fast these guys are when u see them live plus u hear all of the rink talk. seems like goals should be scored all the time but they aren't.

would suggest splurging some time for seats in the lower level (that goes for all of u if you've never been). but get seats roughly 10 rows back or a bit further - too close to the glass and u can't see everything.

i almost feel like in terms of NHL interest in those cities that there probably need to be 4 categories:

intense interest, moderate-to-strong, minor and no interest.

people were so skeptical of winnipeg (800K) supporting an nhl team but it's like it's one of the most important things (outside family and job) for many people there........

winnipeg and NHL is probably comparable to some SEC college football areas. neither has big population but they each have intense interest.

how does NHL hockey do in dallas? colorado? anaheim?...

feel like i should do study of stub hub prices for non-rivalry games... was shocked looking on there how cheap toronto maple leaf home tickets are on the site. not dirt cheap or anything but certainly not hard to get.

Is this the same Winnipeg that couldn't hold onto the Jets? The team that moved to Phoenix, for crying out loud?

But they are back and doing fine. Patrik Laine is sure to keep that franchise running for many years. This kid is the next superstar imo.

I'll chime in too and say hockey live is awesome and incredibly different than on tv.

Giants have been well above average attendance since they opened the new park in 2000, a decade before the WS wins started. Are you ever right?

The uniforms are out. This guy didn't deserve a team with that name and these colors. Dude is trolling Las Vegas. He missed a huge merchandising opportunity by not matching NFL Raiders colors since there was a good chance they moved to Vegas which they did. I know people that would have bought silver and black Raiders colored hockey jerseys even though never going to a hockey game. Of course the NHL LA Kings probably screwed that up, but this uniform really???

Only thing I like is the Knight's helmet logo with the V for Vegas is starting to grow on me.

LA Kings already wear Raider colours.

Yeah I mentioned that.

But F%$# it, force the LA Kings back to their NBA Lakers colorway. Another thing of note is that the LA Kings also have a baseball home plate shaped pentagon shield. Vegas would have been better to go no shield and make the helmet larger. Furthermore as the "Golden Knights" maybe gold or yellow should have been a more prominent color on their jerseys (although Nashville made a horrible looking yellow jersey.)

Oddly enough I think the current Pittsburgh yellow is called "Vegas gold". The Pittsburgh Penguins moved away from the Pittsburgh Steelers/Pirates yellow and stole a great colorway for the Vegas Golden Knights. Also the Detroit Red Wings look prefect in just red and white. The Vegas Golden Knights would look perfect in just "Vegas gold" and white colored jerseys.

These uniforms are hideous! Why did they not call the team Silver Knights since they are in the Silver state?

You don't know what the **** you're talking about. Those Penguins jerseys are old. These are the ones they used this year and will continue to wear in the future, with a yellow that's identical to the Steelers/Pirates:

It is, by the way, the same yellow worn by the Nashville Predators.

The Knights wouldn't have been able to "force" the Kings to do anything. They are separate entities. If the Knights tried to use the Raiders colors, Foley would have been criticized for being unoriginal and ripping off the Raiders/Kings. Four teams use black as their primary home jersey. One uses yellow. None used gray before Vegas.

Because a) what does "Silver" mean in sports? Second place. And if teams are focused on winning (as all teams claim they are), you don't shoot for second. You shoot to win; b) Nevada produces 80% of the gold in the country and like 5% of the gold in the world. We're not devoid of gold, even though we are the Silver State; c) whatever inexcusable bull**** Foley used to "honor" West Point.

If you want to ***** about the name, at least jump on the "It should have something to do with Vegas" bandwagon, and not the dying "It should be Silver!" bandwagon. Those people are fewer and further between.

The ****ing negativity in this town and from NHL fans has been disgusting. Someone decided to drop half a billion dollars on a long-shot expansion team in a town that's never had a pro sports team before, knowing that it was going to be a terrible investment and admitting as much, and he's done nothing but eat **** about it ever since. I'm sick to ****ing death reading every braindead **** running to every message board, Reddit thread, or Facebook post expressing their distaste for the team name, colors, jerseys, whatever. Take your ****ing uninformed opinions, write them on paper, light them on fire, then shove them up your ass.

Those uniforms are horrible but in the end I'm not a fashion person so I don't care. I'm not even that much of a hockey person but I will be this year and I hope that the team doesn't suck too much so I can get into it.

My biggest excitement is that this hockey thing can be a gateway to other professional sports coming to Vegas. We got the Raiders on the way and it seems like it will stop there but I'm hoping for a longshot in getting some MLB or NBA here within a decade. Although, who knows if I'll still be around in that time?

In the meantime, it's time to start educating myself on the NHL and pray that the second market ticket sales will offer some bargains, even if it's nosebleeds.

Solid wim* by Spike

Never been a fan of grey in a sweater. Kings use it in their 3rd and I hate it with a passion.

LVK will be a decent to bad team to start. At least until they trade all their expiring assets. Just don't be fooled into thinking the team won't be bad for decade.

It's likely they will be bad for a while, but you can't rule out them being the next Minnesota Wild whi made the conference finals in their third season. (But not that much since)

Uniforms look horrible, but I doubt NHL fans care about that too much.

FWIW, Foley and others might have dropped a lot of money on that team, but if you look at the numbers from the last two decades, investing in pro sports teams has been one of the best investment opportunities ROI-wise. Even though NHL teams obv. play in a different league than NFL, soccer, NBA or MLB teams when it comes to valuation. Nevertheless, that team could very well be worth a billion in 10-20 years.

More like Spike bring the hate and getting a cheering section for it.

I said "I think the current Penguin yellow was "Vegas gold." But if it isn't than all the more reason the Vegas Golden Knights should be incorporating that color into their colorway. Also there seems to be some confusion because I went out of my way to find the "Vegas gold" on the Penguins jersey to show what a damn good Vegas Golden Knights jersey with duh "Vegas gold" could look like. As well as point out that it isn't a good thing to be too similar to someone elses jersey by pointing out that Vegas and LA which are near each other location wise currently share the irregular pentagon shield on their logo and it would be better if they didn't.

Billionaires with more money than sense fight over each other like crabs in a pot to be the next owner of a NFL/NBA/MLB or NHL team no matter the cost. I'm not going to cut them a break when they clearly aren't listening to advisors on team name and colors. The stories already exist for the Vegas owner on all counts.

Also for all that correct talk about the production of gold in NV it is still called the Silver State and wait for it..........What is the nickname of the state of California? Just sayin'
