This looks like a case of too little too late. I predict at least 1/2 of the taxi companies are out of business by 2020.

Those fukkers are getting what they deserve with Lyft & Uber. However, I've had a few Lyft & Uber drivers try long-hauling by saying their GPS App isn't working. I just emailed Lyft/Uber and they respond quickly and refund any money that is above what ride should've cost.

Doesn't even mention long hauling tourists from airport to strip hotels, so I doubt there is any real change here.

There's way too much undeserved antipathy towards cab drivers as a whole.

1. Many cab drivers will screw you over given the chance. Many Uber/Lyft drivers will too. And maybe one group has more chances than the other but it's not like human nature is any different.

2. Many cab drivers won't screw you over given the chance. Or at least several times cab drivers have not screwed me over given the chance. One time we were going to THEhotel at Mandalay Bay, we said we were going to Mandalay Bay. The driver asked if we were going to THEhotel and when we said yes, took us down that side road instead of LV Blvd. Another time a cab got stuck in traffic outside the Aladdin side entrance because of some celebrity, and the driver switched off the meter and apologized, saying he knew about this but thought he could beat the arrival.

You know, typical "one human being to another human being" stuff.

3. I've never been taken through the tunnel without permission, nor have I even been asked when the answer would have obviously been no (like arriving at 10:30 am on a Wednesday).

It's possible that I just look like a total badass, and the cabbies don't dare **** with this mother****er.

I doubt it.

4. Someone - eco74? - did mention that longhauling has become more common since I last visited. So maybe I'm just unaware that the median cabbie has turned from a greedy-but-honest working dude to an outright douchenozzle. But longhauling complaints were just as common and just as severe back then.

Wait, what did that article even say? From what I gathered all they're doing is allowing more routes to NOT be considered long hauls.

It could just be me, but I've had some horrendous experiences with taxis, and not just in Las Vegas:

1. A cabbie long-hauled me and my friends from the airport and NYNY. We paid him and gave him a 10% tip. The driver then demanded 20%. LOL.
2. A cabbie in New Orleans tried to add additional passengers to my ride without my permission. He said "you are all going to the same place anyways".
3. A cabbie tried to long haul me back to my house. I told him to just take the short route. He pretended not to know what the short route was. So I had to give him directions the whole way.
4. I called a cab company for a ride to the airport. I called every 10 minutes when he didn't arrive in time and they kept insisting that he will be there shortly. The taxi was an hour late. I missed my flight.
5. A cabbie dropped me off at the wrong strip club. I told him so and he said "you will like this one better". Obviously, I declined.
6. I gave a cabbie two $20 bills for a $25 ride and asked for change. He said he didn't have any (liar). Instead of arguing with him, I just paid with my credit card and gave him zero tip.
7. Multiple times, the cabbie would be smoking when he was driving me to my destination.

Also, it seems that every cabbie is a smoker. I can't stand smoke.

I started to use UBER recently and I have not had a bad experience with them. I like the idea that the rate is pre-agreed upon so I don't have to worry about be cheated.

Why are you tipping cabbies who long haul you?you're just rewarding their scumbag behavior.

If this administration can save the coal industry, they can certainly save the taxi industry by blocking autonomous driving.

I wish Woodrow Wilson would have stopped Henry Ford to save the horse carriage industry. Roads would be so nice and quiet today!

How about $100,000 that less than 6 of the existing 16 cab companies in Southern Nevada are around by 2024!

In recent years, more traditional taxi companies have sought bankruptcy protection as Uber and Lyft have expanded their market share in cities. In 2015, Chicago's Yellow Cab and New York taxi mogul Evgeny Freidman, who owns a fleet of New York medallions, filed for bankruptcy protection.

Crooked longhaulers (taxis/uber) can go DIAF. Frequently much more with taxis since there's less recourse.

"You wanna go the fast way?" :-/

It's not just you. The last time I was longhauled, the "reason" was that Paradise was closed because of the rain. OFC that turned out to be completely false; I called the NTA/cab company and got refunded.

Uber may be a shady company, but they couldn't be as shady as cab companies if they tried.

No thank you. The original bet is fine with me. Let me know how you want to proceed.

Uber is a scum of the earth company. If you don't like taxis, at least consider using Lyft or another app. There are more than just those two.
