Final night wrap up -
After that fantastic dinner at BLT Steak we needed a good walk so we went to Fremont Street. I told my brother to be ready to witness some weird people/performers and just enjoy the people watching.
We made some stops at Binions (he wanted to check out the original casino where the World Series of Poker started), the Golden Nugget, the D and 4 Queens.
Fremont Street was busy on Friday night.
After spending a couple of hours downtown we wanted to get back to the Wynn and play our final poker session at the new Encore poker room. The new poker room at Encore is outstanding and it's probably one of my top 3 favorites with Aria and Bellagio being the other 2 in no particular order. When we checked in at the front desk they had 17 games going at 10 pm. My brother got sat first at one of their six 1-3 no limit cash games. I was feeling a little more degen action in me so I put my name in the 1-2 PLO game and got sat right away. I could tell this was an action table as there was a couple of guys sitting with over $2000 in chips in front of them and this was a $500 max buy in PLO game.
I bought in for $500 and I look at my cards and see 9 9 J Q double suited hearts and spades. One of the big stacks opens up for $15 in early position, cute blonde woman to my right calls $15 (she is sitting on about $200 and had sat in maybe 5 minutes before me). I don't have my chips yet as the chip runner went to get them for me and I call he $15. The 2nd big stack at the table (he's a 30 something Asian guy that looks like Glenn from the Walking Dead) calls the $15 on the button. Both small and big blind call and we have 6 players going to see the flop. The flop comes 9 8 2 (2 clubs on the flop). The small/big blind check, so does the under the gun big stack. The cute blonde bets $80. She only has $120 left, so I did not want to re-raise and scare the rest of the field off with my top set. I thought for about 30 seconds and I just smooth called. "Glenn" on the button also tanks for about 1 minute seemingly going between re-raising or calling. He just calls the $80 bet on the flop. The rest of the field folds. The turn brings a beautiful 8 (not a club). The blonde sheepishly checks the turn. I'm very certain she just has the club flush draw. I look at "Glenn" and bet $100. Again it's for about 1/3 of the pot and I'm hoping the bet is enticing enough for him to call or even check raise since my bet can be seen as a feeler bet to see where I stand. He tank calls my $100 turn bet. The river comes...a beautiful 9. I was about 99% certain that my hand was best on the turn and now I'm 100% certain that my quad 9s are gold. I'm thinking about over betting the pot for a few seconds. Then I decided to value bet him and went with a river bet of $150. He reluctantly calls and I scoop the first pot on my first hand and just like that I'm up $450.
I send my brother who is sitting a table away a picture of my swelling stack
The cute blonde busts her remaining $100 stack a couple of hands later and says she will play 2-5 no limit instead. So long eye candy!
About 30 minutes after my first hand that I hit my quad 9's I hit my 2nd quads with Queens this time and made about $250 on that hand since I was heads up against a tight player that was reluctantly calling each bet.
We have been playing for about 1 hour and my brother keeps asking how's the stack looking. At the 1 hour mark my initial $500 buy in is now worth $1150.
My brother taps me on my shoulder and says time to go play pool at the Encore Player's Lounge, so let's lock your $650 profit. I felt I could have done some more damage but it was getting late and I felt that it's best to leave my last poker session in Vegas on a very high note.
I couldn't understand initially why my brother wanted to play pool out of all the games and gambling we could be doing but as we approach the pool table in the Player's Lounge I understand his true motives...
The pool table is right next to the Surrender nightclub VIP line. It's Friday night at 11:30 and the short skirts all decked out were in full force. With so much eye candy, 9s and 10s galore I don't think we were even keeping tabs on who's winning at pool.
We did have 1 last Craps session on our way back to the room and we decided to call it a night around 1 am.
Out of my many Vegas trips, I would have to put this one up there on top as my favorite. We had a great time spending quality time as brothers and I was happy to show my younger brother a good time as it should be in Vegas. We ate great food, watched a couple of good shows, did some sightseeing around town, gambled to our hearts' content and finished strong at the poker tables.
My brother was up around $200 for the trip while I was up slightly over $1000 (all thanks to poker cash games).
It doesn't happen often, but it's a great feeling when you leave Las Vegas with more money in your wallet than what you brought with you.
Thank you all for following along my first Trip Report. I have read hundreds of trip reports on this board over the years and I hope you enjoyed this TR as we experienced the magic of Las Vegas. I look forward to reading your future reports while planning my next Vegas adventure.
Until next time...
