The question should be how long it takes before the regs get annoyed with a new player who always gets up during the same games.

Well, I don't plan on getting up during any games, so I really just want to know how they will react to the new guy being tighter than any old man at the table.

How you going to learn the games by playing tight? Just play every hand til you’re up to speed. You’ll accelerate the learning process through reps and endear yourself to the table at the same time. Two birds one stone.

I learn by observing. Playing every hand won't teach me as much as folding and watching. I need to develop a theoretical understanding for why I do what I do at the poker table. If I am in every hand, I won't have as much time to think about the game.

Tight is right when you are a noob. You should have a basic concept of what hands are good or bad. Open with pairs or high cards in stud, double suited is good in omaha, A2xx type hands are good in badugi, etc. If you need practice, do play money on pokerstars. And I highly doubt a 4/8 game is going to be full of sharks anyway.

Is the mix at Wynn a lot of unusual games, or the more standard 8/10?

I'm late to this thread, but figured I would provide some info since I play in this game when I'm in Vegas. The last time I played was in mid-December. The games were:
  1. Dramaha 2-7
  2. Badugi
  3. Pineapple Stud Hi/Lo Regular (No qualifier)
  4. A-5 Triple Draw
  5. Pineapple Razzdugi A-5
  6. Hidugi
  7. Badacey
  8. Dramaha High
  9. Pineapple Razzdecey 2-7
  10. Badeucey
  11. Superstud High Only
  12. 5-card Double Board Omaha High
  13. Dramaha 49
  14. 2-7 Triple Draw
  15. Archie (9's qualifier)

In my experience, this game can be relatively tight or extremely loose/wild depending on the players in the game (as is the case with so many games). When I was there in December, they kicked it up to 15/30 one of the days as there were some players who had been playing all night and were trying to get unstuck.

Also, big shout out to the mixed game FB group. They are very welcoming (both on FB and in person) and the group is a great forum to generate interest if you want to start a low-stakes mixed game.

Just back from a 2 week holiday in Vegas. Played the 4-8 mix at Aria once and the 9-18 mix at the Encore three times. Had a great time on all sessions. I highly recommend them to new players. The regs are nice and welcoming for the most part. They will explain the games if need be.
It is very advantageous to at least know the basic games from which all other games derive. I would consider basic = stud, badugi, 2-7, Omaha, Holdem and hi-low games in general.
Hope you enjoy the mix as much as I did :-)

Played the Mixed Games there on Saturday. Great games that stretch poker muscles that you haven't had to use before and an awesome group of people to play with. They actually had a must move table so 2 games at $9/$18. They did also have Big. Definitely you should try it.

What is 80-160 CMS Mix 7 at Bellagio on bravo?

That would be the Crazy Mike mix. Crazy Mike picks the games then you sit down and hold on for the ride.

Thanks. Any idea what he usually picks?

If you think these two are "weird" games then you are not ready for mixed games at any stakes

I didn't play this mix over the summer but it was running most days at the B during the WSOP. The game is 80/160 but plays more like 150/300 or 200/400. The antes are much bigger than usual in the stud games (I think they played super stud/8). I believe there were 2 rounds of 2-7 or maybe it was badeucey. The mix didn't seem to be anything unusual but I can't even remember what the mix was in the games I did play...

In any event, I believe Crazy Mike plays every hand to the river, hence the first comment above. If you're seriously interested in this game you should post this question in the Draw & Other Poker subforum, someone there will have answers.

Does anywhere in Vegas offer Big O?

It's crazy to have so many tables but so little variety of games.

Venetian used to. I've seen it at Orleans during WSOP.

Yeah the 9/18 mix at Wynn is on four nights a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday). It sometimes runs on other nights according to interest. It will be a sad day when it dies. There has been an irregular 40/80 mix there recently too with a different lineup of games. It would be nice if there was a regular game in between 9/18 and 80/160 to bridge the gap, but there's only enough casual interest at the busiest times of year.

Thanks for the heads-up. Was running last time I was there and it was bumped up irregularly (as you noted). Will be back soon, was hoping to play it and didn't see it on the Bravo app. It's a fun time.

Orleans used to get a 4/8 mix that was almost all wsop dealers during the Series. don't know if it ran last year. Their room was super busy because their summer series got a lot more popular than in prior years.

It did not, and when I asked to start a mixed game list there on the same night as a mixed game tournament the floor told me, "I don't think so, what about THORSE?" It didn't fire. If it's the dealer game it might be the Aria mix now?

The only low stakes mix I don't think I've seen mentioned here is the occasional game at Southpoint ($6/12 usually). Even during the series last year I didn't see much popping up, but I can't be checking Bravo 24/7.

Could be it "moved" to Aria, which is a disappointment for me. I hate Aria for one thing, and the low stakes at Orleans made it more fun. Everyone was very easy going.

There have been several attempts to get regular low to medium stakes mixed games going at the Orleans over the last few years. They never manage to go for long. I don't have any inside information, but it has often been said on these forums that the Orleans management really doesn't like mixed games, so they use any excuse possible not to call the games even when there is an interest list.

It's probably too much trouble to rotate the few dealers who know how to deal mixed games.

Lot of low stakes mix going at South Point and sometimes GVR. Reminder to join Vegas mixed game group on Facebook to see where all the low to mid stakes action is at.
