I think he was saying the fact that a customer parked in a particular location doesn't make him captive there.

It will quickly become the norm to pay for parking, and all of the drama now will be reduced to nothing more than an occasional light grumble every now and then over time. It will be exactly like resort fees.
I agree that others will follow suit, but probably for different reasons. The Tropicana/Hooters will probably be next, given that they're surrounded by MGM properties and they'll have to start charging just to ensure their own customers get spots over and above MGM customers. CET will follow suit because why not. Wynn will be next since Steve Wynn is already on record as saying he knows that rich people don't like being around poor people, and rich people can pay $10/night to park. Adelson will probably follow suit soon thereafter because he hates Steve Wynn and doesn't want to see him make more money.

I would think Tropicana and Hooters would be some of the last to charge, because they bill themselves as being for low-rollers, and probably no one would pay to park they're unless they're staying at the hotels. They could come up with a validation where you have to go in and gamble a little for free parking though.

They are probably going to have to or risk being overrun by MGMrats, especially Trop, being in close proximity of 4 MGM hotels.

True, I already park at Tropicana when going to MGM Grand, it seems quicker and easier than parking in MGM's lot.

Well, looks like Sands and Wynn could have an easy excuse to start charge for parking in the near future.

Seems pretty silly after the the new MGM arena just opened. Doubt there's a market to fill both; they'll both just sit empty half the time they could have been in use.

Right? Plus this doesn't include the NFL stadium they want to build.

Lots of expansion in that area of the strip for years to come.

Exactly. They keep finding ways to make a Vegas trip less appetizing. That will result in people visiting less often. I am one of them- this, among other things, just makes me less excited about making my next trip.

It's pretty dang easy to get to gold status and not have to pay for parking. Just by booking my room at Vdara for 9 nights I'm 15000 points away from being gold. With what I'll spend at the pools, restaurants, and clubs while I'm there I'll easily be platinum by the time I leave.

If you don't spend money like that then the casinos need some other way to make money off you, which is why they are implementing the parking fee. They don't want a bunch of people using their facilities if you aren't going to spend any sort of real money there

I just got Gold through only poker hours that I put in the past month. So the cutoff date of march 2016 is apparently not correct. I had to get the guy at Aria to send an email for me though because it didn't show up in the system. I'm stoked though. Just to confirm, gold card will give me free valet and parking at any MGM property, correct?

Bellagio has ticket machines installed at the entrance to self-parking. Currently covered, not yet in use. First level of parking garage closed for "improvements".

I think the guy meant that the March dates automatically upgrade your status if you played enough hours during that time. And when they check your hours, those are the dates they use when the number of hours comes up. If you didn't play enough hours during those dates, but have played a bunch of hours since then, I'm sure they can check and I'm not surprised that they gave you a Gold card. It would be dumb for them to lose a regular because they wanted to get too nitpicky, especially if you have enough hours not only for Pearl, but also for Gold.

Yes Gold gets you free valet and parking at any MGM property. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though. But really this link has all the details:

Also I'm sure that several people are Pearl/Gold who haven't played in months.

Also new at Bellagio, some sort of ticket validation / pay station inside near the exit to the self-parking garage, also currently covered, and more machines as you drive out.

A little update regarding the parking situation.

I was told today my Bellagio poker management that the 75 hours needed in a 12 month period must come at ONE location. You can not combine those hours between Bel, Aria, etc. I have no idea why this would be but whatever. Once you get these 75 hrs you get Pearl status. Your status is updated and reviewed at the first of each month. So if you reach it on June 15th, it would not be in effect until July1st. I hope this helps.

I know it is kind of confusing and frankly stupid for everyone. I sincerely hopes this backfires in some way for MGM but I doubt it. People still bitch but pay for resort fees, etc and they really do not care about locals or poker players. The poker room is just an amenity. In fact, its pretty amazing you only have to play 75 hrs to get Pearl when non poker players have gamble it up to get that - so in that sense its a really good deal! But in another sense, I wish MGM could find a better way to make money like just charge for drinks or nightclub cover or whatever. I hope there is a backlash and it doesn't make MGM money, but I'm sure they have calculated this carefully.

Anyway, I hope some of this clarification about poker hours helps. For other locals, it pretty much sucks or find someone with pearl to carpool with if going to show or something.

Ha this is mgm mgmt, I'd bet my net worth they have done at most some superficial calcs. Still it could be +EV for them, it's up to the customers to decide what it will be

Has anyone seen this yet? A new Mlife credit card similar to the total rewards visa. Automatic upgrade to Pearl status for cardholders, which gives free self-parking. Claims it will earn express comps AND tier credits.
