Reserve on-line. Try different time periods if you have it for more than a week. Some places charge more for a weekly rate, some charge less. It may be cheaper to book one for 4 days then another for 3 days and drop off / pick up at the same time.

$20 trick at pick up works wonders too.

Depends what you consider decent and cheap. I love Grand Lux Cafe at Venetian and Palazzo. Probably your best bet for very healthy options as well. Including coffee tax and tip, breakfast there should run $15 or so for one person.

For cheap without regard to quality(but not awful), there may be specials at the Victorian Room in Bills. Get there early enough(like 5am-7am) and you get to eat breakfast with pimps(seriously). Its a quick walk out of Bellagio and across the bridges.

Anyone know what the deal with the nov 9 is?

So are there any hotels where the comp points can be used towards a discounted/free room? Or is it just food and gift shop?

It's good for healthy stuff. For the usual cholesterol and sausage/bacon, the food courts nearby are pretty good and quick. You can even get a bagel if you want.

My understanding of how Harrahs works is that if you run a few hundred through a slot machine, or plop down for 3-4 hours at a table game even at $10 a hand, you should be getting free room offers at all Harrahs casinos except Paris and Ceasars.

My understanding is that its also much more difficult to get comped food on top of that.

This should be correct. Poker room hours should also now count for Harrah's Total Rewards, so I believe you should see offers and comped rooms after playing only poker at Harrah's properties.

I seem to say this a lot - if you have not already, absolutely log in to the Harrah's web site with your Total Rewards number and check the reservations page. If you have any play at all, you'll probably see some very reasonable discounts and probably comped weeknight basic rooms at most of their properties.

For Harrah's, if you are staying and gambling on property then make sure you charge everything you spend at the hotel to your room. Then when you check out go down to the front desk and ask them to apply any comps you have to your bill. My last two trips at Showboat I've averaged an extra $50 over and above my earned comp balance being taken off the bill. I booked the rooms online using one of the many offers Harrah's sends its Gold members. I think the front desk people have a little bit of discretion so be cordial and see what happens.

do the hotels on the strip allow you to take your own cooler to the pool or do you have to buy their drinks?

Thanks. I'm a little confused, though. Can the Total Rewards (i.e. the $1/hour comp) be used directly against the cost of a hotel room? Or are you guys saying that if I play enough they might offer a comped room separate from the Total Rewards points?

Does anyone have a decent idea of which wireless company has the best coverage in Las Vegas? I'm trying to mainly decide between the Iphone (at&t) and the Blackberry (verizon). Both phones seem great and kind of close, but the service in Vegas/LA is more important than any minor differences in the phones. Any info about these or other phone comparisons would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm saying the second. I think the $1/hr comp is just good for the restaurants.

4_2_it seems to suggest above you might be able to get the front desk to apply your comp dollars against any remaining room charges, but I might be misinterpreting him. Anyone ever done this?

A million times, but not at Harrahs (since I don't stay/play there often). Comps are comps, they all go in the kitty and can be applied to your room charges, unless Harrahs is doing something radically different than other places.

I believe Harrah's does it differently. Their Rewards Credits are listed as being usable against meals, merchandise, and "experiences", which I assume are services like the spas, etc.

Edit: well, I am going off their web page. The wikipedia entry suggests you can use it against room charges as well. That would be good to know.

It works for some people. It has not worked for me.

I have paid for a room at a couple different Harrah's locations around the country with Total Rewards comps. Use it just like a credit card. It's good for pretty much anything Harrah's sells, far as I know.

In addition to the $1/hr you'll get from poker and whatever comps you get from play in the casino, you will also get special offers from Harrah's for free rooms, free shows, discounts, whatever. How much of that you get depends on your level of play and where you play and how badly Harrah's thinks they need you to come back and the phase of the moon and other super secret Harrah's algorithms.

True, except it isn't near to the Bellagio. He could try the buffet at Planet Hollywood which is $15 and has a big selection, including exotic things like bread to go with the stuff that's swimming in fat.

I don't know about AT&T, but I have a Blackberry with Verizon and the coverage here is fine, and the couple times I've traveled to LA (Commerce) it's been good too.

Bav is spot on.

For example, my last trip, I had ~$50 in comps and the front desk girl took $100 off my bill when I checked out.

Excellent, good to know. Did you tip her to help this along?

Nope. Was just my usual friendly self. Told her I had a great time and wanted to use whatever comps were available against my room charges. I charged two dinners, a lunch and a breakfast to the room. Also, played blackjack and some 3 card poker when I got bored in the Poker Room.
