Mirage is awesome re: the "do not disturb" sign. On my last two trips, totaling 5 nights, my room was never entered by housekeeping.

Technically, you can't say they didn't enter your room unless you were in there 24/7.

Maybe they entered your room and just didn't clean it up.

Maybe he left a video camera going, or motion detectors, or just shoved a toothpick in the door frame so it'd be dislodged by someone opening the door.

Meh, that's an old trick. Any rookie spy or crook knows it. Only slightl better is using a hair. The best way is with a small fleck of ash or dust in the right spot.

Didn't you read Farenheit 451?

How is Bill's Gambling Hall's steak or ribs. They have specials for $10 on that stuff. Anyone had that or any other cheap steaks that were surprisingly decent?

Also, anyone recommend any cheap strip clubs on the strip?

Hey guys,

Making my first trip to Vegas August 16-21. I'm going with my friends and we're all either current or just graduated Uni students, aka lifenits looking to ball on a budget. Probably won't leave the strip at all, in case it matters. Looked through the first 5 pages or so of threads for the last few hours, couple quick Q's (rather than making my own thread)

- Did a scan of the poker rooms that sound like they're worth my time: Venetian, MGM, Mirage, and Wynn seem like the consensus for the best places to visit in terms of being in nice rooms with fish. Do any of them offer free drinks or something of the like? If not, what rooms do?
- Any recommendations for delicious buffets with a good value?
- What's a fun but cheap place to go out on a week-night (since we'll be there Sunday-Friday)? I remember reading about a beer-pong bar a long time ago. If there's nothing cheap, what's the easiest way to get drunk while having fun and saving money?
- What's the best magic show to see? I'm already set on seeing Eau and I want to throw in another show. Preferably a reasonably priced one, but if it's really worth it I'm willing to fork out the doh.
- Is it easy to get weed? Where would be the best place to look?

Any other really sweet places for me to visit would be cool too. I've heard good things about the wax museum, ESPN zone, etc. I'm a big sports fan and a huge science geek too, so any recommendations based on that would be appreciated.

Thanks so much

I will answer what I can.

First question, yes drinks are free to an extent, depends which casino you're at in terms of what they will serve you. But if you are playing(yes playing in the poker room counts) then drinks are free(just tip the waitress).

Second off I cant fully answer the second question as I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "cheap place" but I can guarantee that O'Shea's will fit the bill and thats what I imagine you are talking about in terms of beer pong.

Somone correct me if I'm wrong but O'Sheas is between Imperial Palace and Ballys(i think its Bally's on the other side). They have cheap beer(like $2), beer pong, $5 table games etc.

Cheap = not horribly overpriced drinks (i.e. 5+ dollars for a highball) without a cover charge (or a minimal one, i.e. 10 dollars or less). I'm 90% sure that O'Shea's is what I remember reading about. It sounds exactly what I'm looking for. Are there any other places like that in case I want to get drunk a couple times?

Thanks for your help

Drink prices in Vegas are binary. They are either free or way too expensive. Ten bucks+ for a mixed drink in many places. Free in casinos for players, which includes slots or poker or sports book. You don't have to be gambling big. But if you go to a bar, lounge, or club, you will pay high drink prices. The exception is that some bars will comp you 1 drink if you play the video poker/blackjack machines that are set into the bar countertop.

Some of the "budget" casinos, like the aforementioned O'Sheas and Gold Coast, have cheap beer. Dunno about mixed drinks.

O'Shea's has $1 margaritas , regular & strawberry, and $1 Michelobs. Slots O Fun has something similar with blended drinks but not with beer.

Depending on what poker room you play at, you can get most any beer or mixed drink free. Some rooms have limited selections, but all rooms offer free beverages. Wynn used to offer some high quality booze, but I dont know if they still do this.

Thats Casino Royale which also has $3 craps FTW if you don't die from the noxious fumes in that place.

People claim lots of places smell bad. Most don't really. Casino Royale does.

Free entertainment on the strip? Check out all the hookers at Flamingo late at night. Mess with them even. Just run when their pimp comes up :P

Ellis Island steak special for $6.99- steak, soup/salad and a free beer rates very high for quality and even higher for value. It's a 10 minute walk from the Strip down Paradise past The Flamingo/ Ballys.

And the Bellagio. They were even spreading 1/2NL recently.

Spice Buffet at Planet Hollywood. Get there before 10.30 and you get the breakfast rate.

Atomic Testing Museum would probably be up your street (not been there myself.)

I saw the word geek and I immediately thought of the Pinball museum that someone was talking about. Apparently you can play on them.

So, before leaving Vegas about three weeks ago I stopped to refuel the rental car at the Chevron/Terribles at the corner of LV Blvd and Warm Springs road. (Next to the LV Outlet center.)

While I'm pumping gas, some guy pulls up in a SUV and asks, "may I ask you a random question?" Before I could reply he continued, "would you be interested in a 50" plasma TV?"

Discerning the look of incredulity on my face, he blurted out, "one of my customers canceled at the last minute, so I can offer you a great deal, in box and all!"

I told him, "sorry, but I'm not from here." He quipped, "what, they don't watch TV from where you're from?" I laughed and said, "they do, but I don't think I could take the TV on the plane, even if I wanted it."

With that, he nodded and sped off.

Any money this guy makes from his shady business probably goes straight to the poker community, judging by his poor poker face when he recited the line about a "customer canceling."

Was he driving a white van?

This is a common scam, they were big into selling speakers a few years ago.

I can confirm that both the hot and cold water do not run 100% at Sahara. I think it's part of the "You're in the desert" theme they have going on.

No, a blue SUV.

I was a bit surprised he didn't have a back-up sales pitch prepared for jewelry or something, once he realized I wasn't interested in the TV.

How does the scam work?

They usually have a fake invoice or fake trade magazine with the item listed at some huge price, but they ordered too many or something and can't take it back to the warehouse so they're trying to dump it to you for 1/3 - 1/10th of the listed price. The equipment is usually some cheap knock off item of crap quality that will die in 6 months and its really worth about 1/4 of what you paid for it.
