I just park there out of old habit , I have never felt any type of danger , not even for a millisecond , crossing odgen street. I have a different view on what is ghetto or dangerous though so maybe you are right.

Valet is quick and easy, and then I like to go in for a few minutes of VP at the bar and one or two of their beers

Seen that a few rooms (eg Caesar's, Wynn, Monte Carlo) have button straddles in the 1/2 and 2/5 games.

How does this work? Does SB act first and button last or what?

And probably a stupid question but here goes : How often do people straddle BTN in Vegas (in my local casino in London where you are allowed UTG straddles, someone is straddling around 15% of the hands played)

I did try searching but couldn't find anything recent

Last edited by t0pb1ll1n; 03-15-2014 at 01:58 PM. Reason: Thought about the straddle % and changed it yo

yes

% of straddlers is completely game dependent. i've sat in games where i'm the only button straddler and i've sat in games where half the table is doing it.

Yeah thought that would be the answer, game dependent etc.

I'm fully going to do it if the table conditions are good, fwiw I have never UTG straddled in my life

Just use google (maps directions) . Click on the buss (in the "classic" version).
It tells you exactly when and where the busses arrive and how long the various routes take.

It is NOT an easy walk from Circus Circus to any of those casinos, especially the Venetian. I'm used to tropical heat, but walking in the Las Vegas dessert or waiting for the bus under the hot sun is not something you want to do on vacation. If you're not willing to pay for a rental car, you'll have to put up with waiting in public transit, which includes the monorails by the way. I was thinking of staying at CC with my 12-year old kid this summer and using public transit, but after reading this thread, I'll rent a car.

I once walked from 4 Queens to Wynn after losing all my money and deciding my last $10 was better spent on McDonald's than a cab.

If you are going to walk, take a BIG bottle of water. Maybe two.

Don't know, I am way farther north than Houghton Lake. I live in Houghton, Michigan and not in Houghton Lake, Michigan.

To the points made here: valet your car downtown (because it's quick and easy), but DO NOT valet your car on the Strip (because you'll wait forever to pick it up.)

I waited an hour to get my car when staying at MGM Grand one summer. I won't do that again.

Wimp.

I'm of the camp that it's not so bad, but I'm used to Alabama summers where the heat + humidity is worse than the greater heat + lack of humidity in Vegas.

I agree, while I almost never valet , if I did it would be downtown.

As for being nearly broke and going to Vegas. I once came into Vegas with 300 on me when I was 21. I stayed for 6 months , had a blast , and spent a good 20000 having that fun. I'm not saying he is going to make a good amount , but he can still go and have a punchers chance of making it a super fun trip.

Professionalpoker / 702guy -

Thanks for your advice on my road trip plan, I appreciate the help.

I've now been in Vegas for two months and am getting ready to head down to St Thomas next week, probably flying out on that Wednesday.

Been spending way too much time goofing around playing poker at the Bellagio, so I'm going to buckle down and start doing some of the things on my to do list before I head out. I figure I have 9/10 days left, so should be able to accomplish most of what I want to do.

Here's my list in order of priority (feel free to suggest a better order, sailing stays at the top):

Silver Cup Regatta on Lake Mead this Saturday
Death Valley drive on undetermined day
Bacchanal Buffet @ Caesers
Neon & Mob museums on one day
Infinite sushi (Goyemon, Yama, and Oyshi are all on the list)
Pinball hall of fame
Wander around in Chinatown
Hiking in Red Rock
Check out downtown / old Vegas
Mojave Preserve
(other?)

10 days should be enough to get most if not all of that.

Also before I leave, I'm planning on getting a sushi boat somewhere, right now defaulting to Kaizen.

702guy, Professionalpoker, doublejoker, Turiya, MadMaxLV, MSchu18, Combo-Prof - you guys have all helped me out with solid advice and are welcome to help me devour the boat (or boats depending on how many of you show up). Will plan to do this on next Tuesday the 25th around 7pm or 8pm. The boat(s) are on me, you're on your own for drinks and other stuff. Non-Kaizen suggestions appreciated if someone has a better idea.

Have already met up with Professionalpoker & MadMaxLV, they can vouch that I won't roofie you and steal your internal organs for the black market.
