What I can't get, I don't exactly remember where, is the sign that says Tennis Shoes $7.50. I doubt that the U.S. Marines could shine tennis shoes.

Hey guys. I wasn't sure where to post this, so I put it in the low content thread and MSchu18 recommended this as the correct thread.

I'd like to ask for general advice on lodging when heading to Vegas for a month or so given a mostly flexible set of criteria.

I have been doing my research in this subforum on where I'd like to play and there seems to be fairly universal consensus on that, so mostly looking for advice on where to stay.

If this is the correct thread, I'm looking for advice on hotel vs airbnb vs VRBO vs craigslist room, given these criteria:

1. Planning to stay about a month, maybe two if I'm having fun.
2. Reliable internet access is mandatory.
3. Will work during the day from wherever I am so a desk / kitchenette is nice.
4. Will goof off at LLNL and small tournaments during the evenings and weekends.
5. Preferred max lodging budget is around $2k/mon, willing to go to $3k for easy walking to the good LLNL rooms. Food & transportation not included.
6. Perfectly willing to ship a hotel person a few hundo to get a sweet deal on a sick monthly rate.
7. Being near a halfway decent grocery store would be damn nice if feasible.
8. Would prefer to just walk everywhere, but willing to rent a car if it makes more sense.
9. Don't mind bouncing around different places once or twice if necessary.
10. Plan to start this trip in mid January

Things I have no interest in:
1. Drinking / partying / nightlife
2. Pit games / sportsbetting / degen stuff
3. Strip clubs etc

Things I don't know if I should care about:
1. Poker rates
2. Things I don't know to ask you about that hopefully you will enlighten me on.

Basically I'm just looking to chill in Vegas for a month or so with easy access to decent low limit games, enjoy some of the silly tourist stuff like Battlefield Vegas, maybe hang out with some 2p2ers. I'm not moving there permanently or trying to become a grinder or anything like that.

MSchu18 recommended the Meridan condos, and I've seen Palm Place recommended in another thread. I'm probably going to default to renting a condo off VRBO or a getting a hotel room if I find a sweet deal unless someone provides advice regarding a superior option. Open to all suggestions, including specific places.

Thanks in advance for any advice. Happy to buy advice givers a drink or a sushi roll or something when I show up.

I'm probably not helpful but let me add.

The half hour walk from Palms place to the strip would not be pleasant. It would be O.K. You can however take the 202 bus to the strip. (Check google maps (old version) for car/bus/walking directions.) There is a grocery 99 Ranch Market 20 minutes walking from Palms place.

If it were me I'd prefer to stay on the other side of the strip if I could and take a bus or taxi to get groceries. (Renting a LV car is very cheap too.) Closest grocery would then likely be Vons I think.

I think finding a monthly rental where you can walk nicely/safely to the strip and also to a real grocery may be tricky. If you will settle for connivence store groceries it will be easier.

Except for being crowded at times the bus system in LV is not terrible.
(Good for american standards but not as good as ROW standards.)

I too prefer walking when I can.

Fwiw, a car rental is super easy n cheap, it would afford you a 15-20minute drive to whole food, vons smiths, whatever, while allowing you freedom to also go to desert if you wanted, and play llnl off stril if u wanted a locals experience. I'd image off strip condo might be abit cheaper than hotel as well. Parking at all casinos is free aanyway.

The strip ime will bore you after a couple days especially if your sober. The homeless, stripclub slappers, and idiots in star wars stuff is tiring. Being able to avoid it will be nice. You can always park at one n walk down a casino or two prettyeasy too.

A shine is only $7 at the Mirage and the attendant belts outs songs as he works the shoe polish, a bargain twofer.

If you're looking for a low roller joint, I haven't been there for a few years, but the Plaza had a shoe shine stand.

youre making the grocery thing more complicated than it has to be.

http://shop.safeway.com/ecom/home

delivery is effectively free provided youre not getting groceries delivered several times a week.

agree that palms place is not optimal... its not terrible but palms tends to be overpriced for what you get... an aging property in a crappy location.... the location is bad (its a little less than half a mile farther from the strip than palms/gc/rio...., which is already pushing it) and the whole palms/palms place conglomerate feels like it used to be the hep happenin place in the late 70s. Which is odd, because it wasnt built until 1999, but it still feels really run down and depressing.

Theres a guy named alex dapra who rents signature studios and usually has a good inventory... i dont have his number off hand ,but he spams craigslist pretty good so he shouldnt be that hard to find.... I think he advertises 1800/mo but you migh tpay a shade more if its just for one month. I have never actually rented from him, but i was looking at one of his places, so i can confirm at least that hes a real person who really owns the units he says he owns. ALternatively you could find one on VRBO. Although again kind of watch out because there can be some shady people renting units there, and some of the units are pretty tore up (MGM no longer runs maintenance or cleaning for the private owners)

Meridian isnt a bad choice... id reccomend my LL but im pretty sure he doesnt do month to month. Again great location but you have to be careful because there are a lot of shady realtors.

Palms is probably the best set up for TVs since it is located inside the sportsbook. For the most part, Las Vegas poker rooms are pretty poor at TV selection, but I am spoiled by getting to play in what is likely the best poker room for sports watching in the world.

Lol palms place is brand new. Also free shuttles at good coast and rio to just about anywhere and a full shopping center with supermarket across street.

I suppose its a matter of personal preference, but personally i would feel silly paying 2K-ish a month for a condo so i could walk a half mile to wait for a shuttle.

The grocery store youre talking about isnt a real grocery store.... I forget the name of it but its the LV equivalent of Food City.

I wiki'd it and was surprised to learn that it was opened in 2008.... it feels more run down than that but maybe my impressions from the palms rubbed off on PP and im carrying them over.... The rooms themselves are pretty nice....

if youre going to go to all the trouble to correct the lack of an apostrophe, it seems weird that you also didnt correct the capitalization error in the same word.

That said, im against apostrophes on the internet.

Have you been in it? I ended up going there a couple of times when i first came out here for the wsop and lived in the rio.

It's* a full supermarket. But it's a full supermarket that caters to mexican people and mainly carries mexican brands/food. again, nothing wrong with that if it's what youre into. but id feel silly paying 2K a month for a condo then shopping at the discount mexican supermarket because it's the only place accessible.

*i use apostrophes when it would be a different word if without them.
