When did you go to florida because I rented a car there when I was 21 in ~2003 or so I think.

btw in Vegas I'm not sure if it's 21 or 18 but you can probably find out on one of the agency's sites ie enterprise.com

oh didn't see the uk bit sorry. also another vote for imperial palace..the location is one of the best and the cheap rooms attract the college girls.

I don't really think he wants to drive anyway, were just going for a good time, have a good few drinks and play some poker.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Looks like the Imperial Palace is the best shout for us.

Good point. Maybe the car rental companies are more fearful of people that drive on the wrong side of the road.

Here's an easy one: where do I go to play 2/5NL? Is the Horseshoe worth a visit for historic purposes? the Bellagio? I probably won't play more than once or twice in the week so I want to make it count.

Cheapest on the strip (near the mid-strip action):

Casino Royale
Bill's Gambling Hall and Saloon

The casinos are dirty and out of old school Vegas(and I do frequent them when I visit vegas), but the room rates are low and most people who stay there comment that the rooms are clean and a step above motel (youth hostel) quality. Not posh by anyone's definition, but you aren't going to vegas to spend time in a hotel room. Note, hot chicks will not be impressed when they find out you are staying at either of these locations.

On the next tier I'd put:

Imperial Palace
Harrah's
Flamingo
Bally's

All owned by Harrah's. IP will be the cheapest option for a reason. Flamingo has the nicest pool of mid-priced hotels. The Harrah's website shows what offers they have.

If you can afford better than what is listed above next on the list would be (in no particular order):

Planet Hollywood
Mirage
Treasure Island
Paris

Heading a bit south of mid strip, but not terribly inconvenient:
Monte Carlo
MGM
New York New York

Finally, the most expensive rooms will be:

Bellagio
Wynn/Encore
Venetian/Palazzo
Caesar's Palace
Thank you for this. I'm in a similar situation to Scott, a couple of friends and I are making our first Vegas trip from the UK this summer. Also will be wanting to play 1/2 and 2/5 and we've been looking at MGM.

Anyway, was wondering if there is still alot of action and is Vegas still busy in September time? Or does the poker action really suffer after WSOP? Thanks

MGM is a nice hotel and not terribly expensive. When I was there in June, 1/2 and 2/5 ran pretty much from noon onwards, with the occasional 5/10 game going at night.

Binion's for historic purposes? No.

Bellagio? No, unless you like crowded tables, no place to set your drinks, and floor people that act as though you are imposing on them. Most over-rated poker room in America.

Venetian, Wynn, Caesars, Mirage, MGM, The Palms...Yes.
Rio during the week...No
Rio on the weekend...a resounding Yes

I posted this in the "Going to Vegas alone" thread but thought more people might read it here. I'll be taking my first trip to vegas Nov 1st-8th and would like to meet up with some other poker players while there as I'm going by myself. I was also just thinking...if any noncrazy people are going during that time and want to share a room, splitting the cost would be good. I'm staying at the Stratosphere (very nonballer, I know) PM or AIM me at FATUBER

Cheers.

Any Canadians with advice on changing money? I bank with TD Canada Trust, their website suggests I can get fee-free atm access from many places on the US east coast, no mention of elsewhere. What's the vig like in Vegas to use ATMs? I was also planning to use VISA for restaurants / other incidentals unless you recommend against it.

I'm considering just changing all my money here and bringing cash so I don't have more hassles there, it'll only be a problem if I need to bring any back (due to paying bank exchange rates/fees twice). I'll be budgeting USD $3k but I hope not to need it all (I'd be surprised if I played much over 5/10 limit or 1/2 nl/pl), so get money here or in Vegas? Another option I guess is to bring $1k and use the atms if I need more.

For anyone who might want to use these, there's a free shuttle to and from Rio that drops off & picks up at Bally's. Also the same thing from the coast properties to Bill's.

There's lots of good info on openvegas.com too. That's where I've learned a lot of stuff about hotels, restaurants and comps. They have a decent trip report section too.

hai guise

im going to LV in about 3 weeks and will be staying for almost 3 months. ill be playing 1-3 and some 2-5 NL cash and the occasional tournies. my question is this, are there absolutely no tournaments in Vegas that are not NLHE??? been reading many tournament schedules but there doesnt seem to be any. i like playing horse, FLHE and pretty much just any limit game really. the wynn classic wont have any except one PLO i think and its the same story with the Venetian Deepstack.

also, ill be staying close to the MGM grand, are there any free shuttles that you can take from there to get up the strip to ceasars, bellagio and that area? would like to do most of my playing at caesars and preferably without having a 25 minute walk in the heat.

thx a lot in advance

The monorail goes from MGM to ballys... dk how much it costs though.. prolly relatively cheap monthly. FWIW a cab will only run about 5 bucks though. If you do find a free shuttle i imagine it would be direct from MGM to bellagio (same owner i think)

Im pretty sure the V DSE has a horse and a lo8 this time, and the wynn has 2 lo8s.

Just out of curiosity, why play at caesars? When ive been there, there is no limit running there at all aside from a sporadic 3-6 game.

Also, for the next three months its going to be fairly cool most likely... like 60s-70s in the afternoon.. downright balmy by icelandic standards im sure but the heats not apt to be a problem

Ok, I hope you don't think it is hot here right now. Please bring warm winter clothes. I haven't worn shorts in a month, though some days are still in the 60s and quite pleasant.
