So is the best way to book a room for 2 people and then sort out the roll away when we check in? We are from the UK so ringing around the hotels might be harder. How much poker do you have to play to qualify for the poker rates? I will be playing some but not a great deal. Looking to book tonight or tomo

I would use the 'net to book the room instead of calling the chosen hotel. Indicate there will be three people staying. If the site has a spot for special requests, tell them how many beds, and the need for a rollaway. If it does not have a spot for special requests, send them an email, tell them you booked a room, and here are your requirements.

If has been a while since I traveled with more than one other person, but I have done many special requests using both methods without a problem.

Standard poker terms are 6 hours cash per day or tournament entry if they are hosting a festival. That's for the room between you, so if you all play, it's nothing to meet it. Some hotels will charge a twin room premium and/or 3rd person premium. No point in dodging that - tell then 3 people and rollaway required in advance, they don't have an unlimited number.

I'm UK too, but free phone calls on Skype if you want to call a poker room? Or just book it on the net, Most rooms explain what process to follow to get the poker rate, so read up.

DO NOT book on Expedia and turn up at the hotel and enquire about a poker rate.

Use the free 0800 numbers each hotel has. Call them, ask for rates.

I saved 1k (compared to their website quote) for 8 nights over NYE at the PH Towers Westgate 2 bedroom suite.

Just go on Skype, choose country US and dial the free 0800 number and talk to them, this is sooo much easier than getting quotes from all over the place.

As mentioned above, me and a group of friends are going to Vegas for NYE.
Now, I wanted to get some ballpark figures on how much we would have to spend on bottle service at various clubs.

Would be cool if you pm me or post here, if you got experience and could help me out.

First time in Vegas with some friends going from June 5-11. We are all early 20s college kis. Don't really care about the place we stay at. Location I guess somewhat matters but I will have my car. Since dates are so close the cheapest rates I have found are at the MGM properties. I know the FAQ has the tiers for hotels, but how much has changed from that. I'm looking at either MGM for 4 nights & Luxor for 2 nights or Excalibur for 6 nights. Any help/tips would be appreciated.

Avoid the Excalibur. The AC is barely working and very loud so you will have to decide between a hot or a noisy room.

man if i were going with a bunch of college friends looking to party and be on the cheap, IP/Harrahs mid-strip seems to be the good choice. walking distance from pretty much anything. if you got $ to spend, hard rock or palms are great for younger people.

what non-gambling things are fun to do in the city? are there any cool museums, tours, stuff that isn't so new and packaged? not looking for thrill seeker stuff. just maybe something throwback that gives a good taste of the older vegas.

Not really. Vegas razes/implodes anything that can become historical. Not much respect for history. Had they never put that damn canopy up, driving down Fremont Street at night would be the closest thing to what you're looking for. I think Caesars has some cocktail waitresses that were around during the Bugsy Siegel era though, there's some history right there.

I'll defer to others itt that are more familiar with current vegas, but the action around harrahs is better for walking around and you're more central strip than mgm luxor area imo.

Imperial palace (next to harrahs, almost adjoining) is fun as all hell to gamble at too if you are with your college buds.

sounds like a really good deal, actually. assuming your room isn't the closet or something, yeah.

Really? The missus and I were thinking about coming out for a month, I did research on a site I don't think I can name here, and I came up with subletting a whole house for $550. Not just a room, but a whole house.

I don't recall the area right now, but I do know it was to the left (west?) of the strip.

in a bad area, if the house was small and unfurnished, maybe 550 for a month is reasonable... if you find someone who is desperate to get out of a lease or something.

Unless youre sure about it though, i would assume that 550/mo for a house is too good to be true and is probably some sort of scam.

agreed, i've been helping alot of my friends rent places of their own and if you skim the marketplace, you won't find another 550 / month for a 5 bedroom in a poker house. assuming its not in a really, really bad part of town and you're not getting a deal from a relative / friend 550 for a whole house is a red flag where something suspicious is going on imo.

Different lengths of the trip? huh?

MGM is the nices hotel by far in that stretch. Har is closest to the center strip.
