For those renting a house:

There have been instances of scammers renting out houses that are in foreclosure. Might be nice to warn people.

It was terrible at our house last year and we kept bottled water around all the time. It's not unsafe or anything as far as I know but it does not taste good.

Just tip a drink girl a few bucks and get 3-4 bottled waters a day. No reason to drink from the tap.

I'll be staying at the imperial palace this summer and I was told there were no safes in the room? Confirm/deny? If not, where would you recommend I store my live roll? (Bringing ~$5K).

+1. Whenever you're in LV and playing poker or gambooling always get extra bottles of water and take them to your room. You'll want those bottles when you wake up and are thirsty (and you will). Any decent hotel will have a fridge in the room.

Also, many times I'll wake up and have a weak stomach...then I'll eat breakfast and it still feels weak. One spicy bloody mary almost always does the trick. I never drink them any other other time but they work like magic for me in this case.

I've never played golf there but if you don't consider 110 degree heat intense then you might be fine. I wouldn't even consider it at that time of year though. Ya, it's a dry heat...but it's literally like an oven. And if there is a breeze...then it's a convection oven (the breeze won't be cool). And it will still be very hot, very late into the night.

confirmed. Last year I got a safe deposit box at the RIO. It was like $125 or something, but you get a lot back if you don't lose the key. I lost the key.

Any comments on my ghetto solution of bringing a combination lock and turning one of the hotel room cabinets into a "safety deposit box"?

If a thief is smart enough to get in your room, taking off cabinet hinges or breaking a hotel dresser shouldn't pose much of a challenge. For $5k, I'd just carry it around with me. If that makes you nervous, get a moneybelt or a casino box.

How's Vegas during memorial day weekend? Going there for the 24th and 25th and was curious what to do for fun outside of poker.

I was thinking more of a deterrent for rogue maids, or is that not much of a problem? I had planned to leave most of my roll in my room and just bring whatever was necessary for whatever tournament I wanted to play that day.

just posted this in the other thread, but thoughts on palms vs. gold coast? looks like they're right next to each other, but palms is much more expensive even through stars. If I don't need something very fancy, should I go with gold coast, or is it really dirty/terrible?

depending how much time you're going to be around your hotel, def. pay the extra to stay at the palms. there are a plethora of reasons you'll realize when you get there.

it depends on how much $$$ you plan on spending obviously, but if you can afford it, definitely stay at the palms.

Just get a travel bag for 40-50 bucks.

lot of different tournament series going on, something for every bankroll. you can play one every day if you want. cash games are good everywhere, higher limit ones at Bellagio and Wynn.

I'd recommend checking out at least one of the cirque shows.

Food here is just amazing, and there is a ton of variety of very high quality dining. Try a type of cuisine you have never had before. There are a lot of expensive places that are just awesome, but plenty of local places which are much cheaper, and also very good- especially if you like asian food. Some of my favorite places are Prime, Tao, and China Grill...china grill and tao are both great places for groups of 4+ as food is shared.

If your on the strip its actually pretty safe to walk around with money(too many people for anything bad to happen, same in casinos + security cameras all over) I def wouldn't be doing it in downtown(north LV) tho. If your going to be playing some events then wire money to the Rio, then just take out whatever you need each time.

Doesn't the airline charge for checking extra bags though? I read recently it's as much as $100 per bag

an extra $800 probably isn't worth it, but just to name a few:

rain, ghostbar, n9ne steakhouse, better poker room for dinking around in, (i don't know what limits you play, but there are some decent games once in a while if you didn't feel like leaving your hotel), overall cleanliness/ reputation

again, i don't know how much $800 means to you, but if you can afford it, palms is >>>>>>> gold coast in my opinion.

One more thing about the Palms: July 2-10 it will be the home of the Pokerstars WSOP qualifiers. There are about 1,050 so far - Pokerstars have said they expect to qualify 2,000. All of the get the choice between free accommodation at the Palms or $1,000 cash - I recon 70-80% are going to go for the accommodation. So there will be a particular kind of clientele there during that period.

Different airlines have different policies. But if your airline is going to charge you an exorbitant rate to check that additional bag of bling and towels you stole from the room, you can always FedEx it to your house.

You can't walk into those places if you're staying at the Gold Coast?
