Saw this on reddit today and it made me think of 2+2.

I never knew Vincent Van Gogh went to Las Vegas! He even started a trip report:

They run, but are completely crazy and slow. Plus I believe they count the pot "online style" (not in increments of $5) which slows things down even more! I suggest playing one of the 1/2 PLO games at the Venetian, Aria or occasionally the Wynn.

Will be spending a few days in Vegas and will have a car. I was interested in stopping at the Lion Habitat Ranch on the way to the Hoover Dam. There isn't much info as to how much time you usually spend there or if it's worth it. Has anyone been there?

As much or as little as your heart desires.
Neither is a whole day affair.
The damn is probably a good four hours or so if you take the tour, do the fly over bridge and hang out on the damn itself.

Red Rock over Dam/Lake Mead? Thinking of doing Lion Ranch either way.

Well, I’m finally going to do it. The missus and I are going to make our first pilgrimage to the mecca of lights and sounds. I’ve read many good trip reports here, read through many posts in the dinning threads and perused the hotel threads. Thus, I didn’t want to be that guy that creates a new post to ask the same damn questions.

I’ve been researching and our tentative dates for travel are December 11 – 15. In reading that seems to be about the right number of days for sensory overload. We both aren’t big gamblers but will be partaking in pit games like craps and the like, I may play some 1/2 over the four days. Our goal is to enjoy all that is Vegas, lights, food, shows, drink.

I have the following similar priced hotels in mind;

Mandalay Bay - Run of House Room $407.68
Mirage - Run of House Room $412.16
Planet Hollywood - Hip Room King $454.06
Ballys - Jubilee Room $517.22
Paris - Red Room King $552.16
Vdara - Studio Suite $555.52
Aria - Deluxe King Room $604.80

Of the list, what is a definite no for those of you experienced Vegas travellers?

Secondly, we are thinking of a couple of shows; Absinthe, and Cirque show of some type. Is txi4tonight the best way to get tickets? Do I risk the chance of not getting one?

Lastly, what do you tell your non-vegas traveled friends they must see and or do?

Thanks..

Ballys and Paris are a definite no.

Mandalay Bay is a no based on location.

First time there, stay at Aria or Vdara. That's the best price you'll get for those places and they are much better than the other places on your list.

Bally's is great if it is just you are just you and another grinder. Cheap, and a great location. Right across the bridge from Bellagio and Caesar's. Not too much further to Aria or Venetian. I pretty much always stay there.

However, for that small of a price increase over 4 days I would maybe go with Aria.

I think the Vdara rooms have kitchens if making your own meals is something you would want to do.
I'm with Kato though, I think I'd go with Aria since it's your first time and you're with the missus.
I usually stay at Ballys for the price and location.

I didn't really like Vdara when I went with my spouse.

I'd say Mirage is decent for that price as well.

Are there any shows/etc you really want to do? You could opt to stay closer to there.

You could also do some priceline hunting since it is December and rates will be low.

I'd say Mirage or Aria at those prices, make the call on whether having a really nice room over a perfectly good one is worth the two hundred bucks to you.

Don't think any of the others are a significant upgrade over Mirage unless the kitchen at Vdara is a big draw.

Aria, no question.

It's unanimous then!

I have booked Aria for 4 nights. I was able to go through a package deal here and saved a ton when considering exchange.

Flights, 4 nights, Aria king bed : $1420.00 for two!

I know Vegas is so dependent on what each individual likes to do, but I'll ask it again anyhow...Lastly, what do you tell your non-vegas traveled friends they must see and or do?

Checking out Fremont St. one night is a good break from The Strip. I always like to try to check out a Cirque show while I'm there. My favorite so far is Mystere, but I haven't seen O or Beatles Love yet. Not a fan of Ka, although there are many who do like it. You'll be fine using tix4tonight since you'll be there during the week.

What are your thoughts on these homeless/fake homeless that use their dogs and kids as bait to get donations? I saw a "homeless" woman on the Encore-Wynn bridge last night with two very little kids with her. Mother of the Year.

I don't feel a call to the Humane Society or CPS is out of the question here. Nothing tilts me more about this city than seeing this on a daily basis. /rant
