Greetings,
I thought it could be useful to gather all future stuff on the daily/nightly tournies in one thread. There are tons of threads on this topic and it will likely be even more now during peak season. I asked gobbo for permission.
In terms of structure the best ones will be found at Wynn, Venetian and Aria. Wynn has the lowest rake (I think) and is now my fav room on the strip for dailies. Reasoning below.
You should steer clear of any donkament with low entry, with add-ons, unlimited rebuys and low guarantees. For instance, barring Goliath, Planet Hollywood runs one of the worst dailies in Vegas. 20 minute levels and low guarantees. The overall play is horrendous, so there's always that. Turns into a flip fest after the first break tho.
My favorite rooms and tournaments:
Mon-Thu:
The Wynn 12pm (
$140) - 30 min levels, 10k starting stack. Overall a great and newly renovated room. Kicker is that they have toilets within the poker room. Very friendly floor/dealers, the rec locals also nice. Slight downside is that they hand out 500+500 for being super early, but no biggie.
Aria 13pm ($
125) - 30 min levels, 10k starting stack. For a few years this was my fav, hands down. Dunno really what happened here, but the overall atmosphere has changed. The floor, with one exception, seems jaded. They randomly cancel nightlies and the dealers are easily annoyed. I guess the HR/SHRs are taking its toll.
Venetian 12pm (
$150) - 30 min levels, 12k starting stack. I've only played this twice, normally I play DSE there. Floor super friendly, had one bad experience with a dealer during the $400 Superstack last week. She was complaining about the DSE going on, no tips from tourny grinders etc. Other than that a great room. Plus for free parking.
Weekends:
Aria 11am (
$240) - 30 min levels, 20k starting. There's no point being there early, as they rarely have more than 20 players the first few hours. You can late reg until end of level 6, so going there around 13pm is fine, just as the antes kick in. If you go early you'll risk playing 6 handed for hours. The player pool is mostly the same as the $125 (soft).
Wynn Fri 12pm (
$200) - same structure as the weekly, also mostly the same player pool. People show up early here because of the 500+500 bonus I guess. Last time I played this they got 90+ runners. Now my favorite weekend spot. I haven't played the Sat one yet for reasons unknown, but I tend to shy away from rebuys.
The Orleans 7:05pm (
$130) - 30 min levels, 15k starting. A great tournament in every sense. Lots of players so the price pool will almost always be good in terms of ROI. The dealers/staff is also nice and it is almost all locals playing there. It's a fairly easy tournament to navigate since the OMC to young player ratio is heavily weighted towards OMCs, you will never face any tough decisions on the river etc.
Snapped this one last Friday:
They had 203 entries. Can't remember the payouts, but should be very nice. All I remember is that I ripped 20bb with AK into the BB who called with KQo.
[I have not played the $200 daily at Bellagio]
As far as the strengths or weaknesses of the field goes I will speculate that the Aria gets more random walk-ins than any other room. The overall field is soft to super soft there, where I would rank the Wynn as soft to medium. A room like the Orleans will be soft with a lot of OMCs who won't fold a lot post flop, mixed in with some younger solid players. At The Orleans you will also frequently see people open raising 8-10x pre in the early levels, whereas at the Aria people are generally more conservative in the early levels.
I will add that with the exception of DSE/Goliath, most of these will play down to a flip fest in the end. The Wynn/Aria ones will last a good 7-8 hours and by the time you are down to 6-7 players most will have 20bb - so if anyone brings up the possibility of a deal you should take it unless you have a serious edge on the opp.
I guess we should discuss tipping. I generally tip between 5 to 10%, but keep in mind I'm a rec tourist player. I really don't know what the norm is for tournaments, but if I'm happy I'll give a decent tip.
Hopefully this is helpful to Vegas newcomers and others. Please update or correct me and keep the daily tournament grind alive!
