I know what you are saying... I agree, everyone feels the sting and thinks to themselves that perhaps there was something else that could have been done.

I was just pointing out (and not to you personally) the fact that many players seem to suggest that being results oriented is a bad thing as some kind of blanket statement... it's not a bad thing, and in fact given a strict assessment of it's true meaning in terms or project management, it is a good thing.

like I said above and only in the most narrow definition there of, being results oriented is bad if your context is "making changes based solely on an individual outcome"

I think it is easier to think of your results in terms of the quality of your play as opposed to how much you win or lose, this is incredibly difficult since we all play the game to win the most money possible. I think the concept of sklansky dollars and g dollars is really powerful and can make dealing with cash losses easier to some extent.

Why? That's like starting all over. Even a good NL player can get killed playing other variations of poker if he doesn't know what he is doing. And just because a game is limit, that doesn't make it easy. Most limit players I play against are bad at the game just like most NL players are bad.

I've found it harder to win at 4/8 limit because of the rake. I think 1/2 NL and 1/3 NL are actually easier to beat.

Week 1 Update

Hi everybody, just going to give you a quick update of what went down during my first wk. My laptop is good to go so will post hand histories finally also.

Results

Aria 1/3 4 hrs -258
Bellagio 1/3 3 hrs 460
Aria 1/3 3.5hrs 903
Aria 1/3 4.5 hrs -133
Aria 1/3 7 hrs -1072
Aria 1/3 4.10 hrs 123
Aria 1/3 3.20 hrs 268
Bellagio 1/3 1.20 hrs - 420
Aria 1/3 2 hrs 320

Profit/Loss 191
$/hour 5.82
Volume 32h 50m

Summary

I exceeded my volume goal which I am really pleased with, I definitely ran bad for periods and was card dead a lot also, so it's not been that much fun whilst playing.

My profit should be a lot more, I still have some glaring leaks; I spew way too much, I worked out I made 7 egregious spews this wk, I'm thinking that is a lot by anybody's standards. I would love to know what is reasonable here, given that I have a natural tendency to do this so am never expecting to stop this all together. I think if I had spewed half as much then my profit would look like more like $1k which would also bring my hrly up to where I want it.

Poker goals for this wk include - Hitting my volume of min 30hrs - Spewing no more than 3 times (and hopefully not when deep) - Never playing with booze in my system ( I did this once and it cost me $400)

In terms of the quality of my play (excluding spewiness) I am really pleased, My ability to read hands has improved a great deal, where as before I would put an emphasis on looking for physical tells now I feel I can range a villain on every street by studying their betting patterns and working out if their story makes sense. I'm always concious of the amount of equity I have in a hand which means I'm not as inclined to overplay my hand, especially my draws when some of my outs may be dead.

Away from poker

So i've had a few days/nights out during my first wk back. I went to tao beach which was really cool, got my pale english ass a bit of a sun tan, had an open bar with literally some of the moodiest waitresses I have ever met, it was almost like having a personality disorder was a pre requisite to working there. Maybe they just don't appreciate the english banter ;0).

Have been spending way too much time in twin peaks, but why wouldn't ya?? Got a sweet deal with one of the waitress's she basically gives me free beer for tips?! (I know WTF)

Still haven't broken my duck since being back but going to night swim tonight so hopefully that should solve that problem. Highlight of the wk is probably getting number closed by a stripper at the rhino, I was pretty wasted so can't remember the actual magic words that came out of my mouth but whatever I said it worked because she proceeded to grab my phone from my pocket and type her number in! Had a bit of text banter so hopefully I can close the deal on that at some point.

Other than that I've been working out a ton and trying not to do anything too stupid, my ex has a new bf and we all live in the same apartment complex which is a slight logistical nightmare! I don't even care really because I wanted it to end but it might be a bit weird first time I see them together, that will probably happen tonight so an extra incentive to get amongst it with the lady's at xs, as if I need an extra incentive to do that!

Thanks for reading, I'm going to post hh's next post, please give some feedback, go some really good feedback from the llsnl forum on a hand the other day, thanks again for that.

All Hands @ 1/3

Hand 1

Eff stacks 350

Hero Image Lag
V image Nit, hadn't played a hand in 2 hrs
3 limpers
Hero in HJ with AA raise's to 10
4 callers

Flop (50)
964r
Mp bets 15
Hero Raise to 45
folds to mp
MP re reraise 120
Hero Folds

Felt like a set all day, the guy said he had KK, whatever mate, I think KK limp shoves/rr pre, if he did have KK then it's a really weird line, I was pleased with my fold, should probably raise more pre.

Hand 2

Eff stacks 300

Hero Image ( aggro, been raising a lot pre, probably a laggy image)
V (Good reg, think 2/5 is his main game, he had just moved directly to my left, I had previously 3 bet his btn raise from the blinds)

Hero 1 from the hj (is that the lj?) AQos
V hj

Hero opens for 12
V 3 bets to 40
Hero 4 bets to 120
v calls

flop (250)
445

Hero shoves
V folds

I 4 bet pre here as I thought given previous history he was maybe 3 betting me light. When he flats I think his range is really polarized ak/jj/1010/kqsuited. I'm also pot committed pre flop so i'm shoving pretty much any flop.

Hand 3

Eff stacks 150

Hero image tag
V Maniac ( played with this guy the day before, vpip 80, on a heater)

h utg qjos opens 10
V btn calls

flop (24)
q89r
hero checks
lag bets 16
Hero Raise 32
Lag Calls 32

Turn (88)
As
Check
Check

River (88)
4s completes flush
Hero checks
Lag shoves 100
Hero calls
mhig

Once he checks back the ace on the turn I know i'm good, i'm not getting a bet called on the river so the river check is purely to induce.

Any feedback great.

Going to start taking more thorough notes as this is a nightmare trying to write up from the notes I have taken.

Hey Bro, a ball ache is basically something is bad, negative, inconvenient. Breaking your duck I think comes from the sport of cricket, if you get bowled out for a duck it means you got bowled out without scoring a single run. So breaking my duck in the context of me going to nightswim means that I'm hopefully gonna get laid as I haven't done that since getting back to vegas. Hope that clears it up.

I have seen a lot of nitty semi-bad players flat call or limp in with KK pre-flop and then go crazy as long as there's no A on the board. If he hasn't played a hand in 2 hours he may even have folded 44/66 pre-flop to a raise.

So it does feel like KK.

But folding is not terrible either IMO.

Maybe you're right, but this guy was a weirdo, he kept saying weird **** and got angry at me opening for 3 x all the time. It made sense that he may have said he had kk to wind me up. If I'm honest the guy was such a weird **** and had such an issue with me I would have liked to.smack him round the chops and just turned his cards over, prick

You really need to be trying out the smaller rooms. How often are you table changing/switching rooms? Don't settle for anything other than a great game.

If my game sucks then I'll table change, as of now there hasn't been too much need to but I have done a couple of times. What's the etiquette with this in vegas, should I be tipping the floors? How much?

Thanks mate, I play pretty much all the time in Aria, sometimes Bellagio. You think its worth checking out mum, luxor, ph etc? In my experience the play in these rooms is a lower standard, but I have always done pretty well at Aria, and I enjoy battling with some of the regs, it feels more like proper poker.
