On the contrary, people who engage in personal boycotts OVERgive their reasons, not UNDERgive. Mention going to someplace someone is personally boycotting and you get a half hour lecture.
And this is specifically because they think it's a big ****ing deal that they're making "sacrifices" for the common good. Remember, the question that sparked this is how someone managed to be a serious poker player while avoiding MGM properties. If MGM properties suck, then nobody goes on "personal boycotts" or **** like that, they just shrug and say they play elsewhere.
I mean I get what you're saying. If it doesn't affect me, why do I care? And it's true that if it didn't affect me, I wouldn't. But we all know these "personal crusaders." They're the ones who refuse to participate in group activities because of their life-or-death convictions on the proprietor's political beliefs, or go out of their way to passive-aggressively tell everyone how bad the service is (and then get mad when you don't share their outrage).
Let me phrase it in a nice way. If you don't like a place, just quietly stop going. Don't call it a personal boycott and don't annoy your friends by proselytizing your personal boycott.
