The Linq - how bad is it? The Linq - how bad is it?

Going to Vegas in December for 9 nights and had planned to stay at the mirage for the whole trip but checked my total rewards offers and can get 4 nights at the linq and 5 at Caesars for the same price.

Keen to stay at Caesars and the linq seems to have okay reviews on trip advisor since the refurb but I have read things on here saying the opposite. What do you guys think of it? Going solo so really only concerned about it being clean and somewhat quiet.

Cheers

I stayed there in February and really liked it, especially at the price I paid.

The beds were comfy, very clean.
The bathroom was really nice, with a step in shower, half glass screen - half curtain.

Housekeeping were very good too,

I liked it a lot and would happily stay there again.

TV is very large.

Slight design flaw in that where the chair is at the 'desk' means that other people can't get passed if you are sat there...but being solo negates this issue.

No real wardrobe as such...it's curtained off rather than behind as door.

But there is ample storage with shelves, rail, drawers, a safe and a fridge.

I took a couple of vids which I could dig out if you like (probably others on youtube) and my room was nice and quiet...

You're welcome.

I think the room number breakdown is
Block 1
Floor 10 (This is definitely correct)
Room 47

I stayed here for 9 nights and then moved to a motel behind the MGM Grand for my last 5 nights.

That was very cheap and I was glad to try another room option but my next trip will be staying centre strip for the duration.

What tower at CP?

I have stayed in the Forum and the Palace Towers.

Forum- convenient location but a large portion only have king size beds because the rooms are so small, I want to say like 390 sq ft. Falsely on high floors like 50-60 however it is just above the parking lot with no views.

Palace-Nice rooms but a hike past the buffet, pools, etc to an area in the hotel you never thought even existed. After 2 days the walk is a grind.

Chances are Laurel/Augustus, Nobu and Octavius Towers are not part of the deal, I am Diamond and could not upgrade my room during the week/off season. $20 trick as well as a phone call to the boss did not work either. The Roman has been renovated to the Julius however that was the original hotel and probably the same size as the Forum.

Prices at CP are marked up as well, for example all Earl's Sandwiches are like $9.99 instead of $6.99 at PH. Starbucks is about 20% higher too.

For December, the pools are not as much of a factor because CP would be a bigger consideration.

I used to stay at Mirage before City Center was built and the rooms are just as nice/nicer as what you are going to probably get at CP without having to take half a day to pack/unpack/check out/check-in. Keep in mind the line for CP check-in with no upper tier status is pretty brutal.

Disclosure- hotel snob, not a brag. I can usually stay at the Linq/Harrahs/Flamingo/Rio for almost nothing for long trips and NEVER do it.

I understand the allure of staying at CP and the change of scenery but unless it becomes a significant price difference I would stay at Mirage.

With the Linq being a cheaper property, smack in the middle of the Strip, I find that the crowd is a little bit younger there than other casinos. A good mix of mid 20s - mid 30s there, where generally more expensive strip properties will have a larger mix of the "professional-types" 40+ crowd. If you're chasing tail, The Linq might be a win for ya.

+1 to the Linq being decent. The rooms are clean and updated, albeit small. The crowd is younger.

Other miscellaneous notes:

- the two bed rooms are doubles, so it's not great if you are trying to cram more than 2 in a room
- the food selection in the area is decent
- TAG bar is pretty good

There's a good chance that the Linq will exceed your expectations and CP will disappoint..

I haven't been longer than two weeks during the winter while the pools are closed, but there's still plenty things to do.

During pool season, my standard day in Vegas for up to 6 weeks looked like this:
11:00AM breakfast, then gym and pool
4:00PM poker
8:00PM meeting friends for dinner, then drinks/club or more poker

When did the Linq renovate?

I remember staying at the IP and they had this ancient looking tiny tv. Jokingly i told my friend it's older than us. He said no so we bet on it. We're born in 1982 and it turned out the manufacturer's date on it was between our birthdays so it was a push.

They did when they went from IP to Quad and then again when they went to Linq.

For same price I'd stay at the Mirage and not even think twice. PS I bet Treasure Island is cheaper and its the same thing.

These are far better options than CP, which is about the worst value in LV.

Considering the design of the casino, it would pull a younger crowd no matter how much the rooms cost. It's like an Ikea version of Aria.

Yeah, to the point that OP might say "This place isn't worth double what we paid at the Linq" after a few days at Caesars. You will want to reserve directly with the properties so they can change plans easier. Consider reserving the whole 9 days at the Linq. Then after 1 day you can consider cancelling the Caesars reservation. You can probably check out early of the Linq if you want to go to Caesars after all.

Possibly, but it's a little bit farther from the center of the action. On the plus side, it's not an MGM property.

OP, reminder that if you're renting a car, the Mirage will charge you to park there.

You can check out before your reservation is up and don't have to pay for the remaining days.

Was incredibly surprised at how good Linq was when I stayed there this summer. I was really dreading it after a terrible but standard experience at the Quad but it was pretty nice and highly exceeded expectations.

Funny that CP is considered by one to be the worst value on the strip. Never stayed there but had always wanted to. Not so much anymore.

Caesars is a nice place imo, but the cost is way up there if you don't have good TR standing. Most of the food is spendy, but I really like the 24 hr cafe near the Augustus tower. Between Bellagio, Aria, Wynn, and Caesars, CP is 4th in niceness but I'd stay there before any of the others. Aria and Bellagio are MGM, and they get none of my money until they drop the parking charge. Wynn is nice but every friggin thing in there is way too expensive. At least CP has a nice poker room and sports book.

Cheers for all the responses guys - sounds like the linq is alright! Prices have just gone up on the mirage so think I going to do a linq/ CP split. I really like Caesars poker room as the games are so good so would like to stay there for the convenience of being right next to the poker room in the forum tower. Also I'm coming from the UK so happy to spend a bit more to try somewhere different. Was I vdara in August which was okay but nothing too special.

I had been lead to believe that prices would go down until about 6 weeks before travel but that hasn't happened so wish I had booked bellagio a month ago! Plan on spending the majority of time at the tables so in the end it doesn't really matter as long as the room is clean and comfortable and I the right place. Both linq and cp are in the right place for where I want to play mostly so should be a good and hopefully another profitable trip (at low stakes not sure how a trip to Vegas can't be profitable such are the standards!)

CP base rooms were really dated for the cost, although I believe they are doing some refreshing of the rooms now.

CET, pre-bankruptcy, was underinvested in basic maintenance/updates relative to MLife.

Totally this. We stayed at CP last year and were pretty disappointed. Coming from the UK we didn't know to do the tip at the desk but we ended up in a decidedly dated room with a shower that took a good 5 mins of running to get hot. We'd heard they were renovating so can only imagine ours was soon to be done.

We thought CP would be the bees knees so was a shame. Rest of the place was great and enjoyed the new poker room though.

Did the Cosmopolitan this year to burn off some Marriot points but will be back to either Mirage or Planet Hollywood next time.

Check room rates again as your trip gets closer. there is no hard and fast rule of them going up or down but they will change.

They may have stuck you in the original tower, which is where the cheapest rooms are. I stayed there earlier this year and it wasn't as worn as most Vegas hotels, but I wasn't in the oldest tower.
