Last trip report was a few years ago. I don’t know how to link it. Been to LV about 10 times since then. I’m a 61yo CPA from Iowa. My lovely young bride (she’ll be reading this) and I are driving two hours straight north to Minneapolis to catch a flight to LV. Get there at 2pm. Nonstop flight and three nights at Treasure Island was $680. It’s close to Wynn and Fashion Show mall.

Dinners reservations at Esther’s and Edo. I don’t know any other eating establishments beginning with an “E” so we should lose weight this trip.

She will shop and I will play poker. Mainly 1/3. Probably no tourney since I’ll go back for WSOP. We’ll throw in some walking to check out the Conservatory, etc.

I'll be in. Travel safely, have a great time.

Trying to imagine somewhere two hours south of MSP that might have a CPA. Mason City maybe?

Exactly. I work in Mason City. Live in Clear Lake.

Self-check in TI had zero people using it. Registration line had about 40 or so. I guess I didn’t get the drink coupons etc. but I don’t care about that.

I told Carol there will be no parties while we’re gone.

After checking in and a supply trip to CVS, we put on our walking shoes and headed to Bellagio. I won’t post any Conservatory pics since there were some posted a day or two ago. We did take a lot of pics for the wife to post on IG and Snapchat.

We were getting hungry and briefly considered Wazuzu at Encore. In-n-Out actually came up in the conversation since we needed a couple souvenir t-shirts to smuggle back to Iowa.

For some reason, I thought of Momofuku which I always wanted to try. So that’s that. We ordered Spicy cucumbers, Ginger Scallion Noodles, and Grill Iberico Pork.

All of it was phenomenal but the pork was by far the best. Currently on 1/3 list at Encore.

The CVS at TI is absolutely awesome. It's attached directly to the casino. No walking outside or anything.

First poker session was short. I’m just too worn out from tax season. Need to get my sea legs back. I bought in for $500 and cashed out $503 in a 2.5 hour session. Was stuck about $250 so I wont complain.

The table was very nitty for a while with many times a preflop raise to $13 would induce folds. Several times the blinds chopped. Seemed unusual.

The hand that got me back to even was 10d8d from BB. Four limpers and guy in cutoff made it $20. He was a middle-age Euro who moved to our table and really liked to see flops. SB called with a very small stack behind and I called. Flop was 6/7/9 rainbow. Bingo. Two checks and Euro bets $40. We both call. Turn is off suit Ace so there’s no flush draws. SB leads out $20 and I call. Euro raises to $75. SB puts in her remaining chips but it’s only $50 total. I’m wondering if the turn hit em both? Or did someone flop a set? I took my time before calling. I thought about raising but I’m pretty sure he has a big ace or small chance he flopped a set. River is another ace. I quickly checked and he started cutting chips and pissing around before finally checking and flipping over AQ. SB shows AK at same time I table my straight.

I guess a river bet would have been a better line?

Yes, of course. Could even consider turn check raise. Don't see a lot 1/3 players who are capable of folding a big ace. Def bet river.

Thnx for the TR! Great stuff.

yes, I'm check raising turn. you don't mention stacks but it doesn't have to be huge. Enough that they can't fold for lol pot odds. it then gives you the betting initiative to lead river

I’m with you I now. I kept thinking he’s gonna do something stupid on the river. Even wondered if he was drawing dead on turn. But didn’t want to run him off.

In hind sight, I should have tried to get more money in pot starting on the turn. My fear was the all-in player had flopped a set and that pot was hers.

I left out the part that the pot was here if the board paired. I really felt Euro was thin or dead.

Subbing. Hope you guys have fun! I'm sure you'll go home to catnip, fur balls, and dead mice all over the house!

My husband just sent in a payment for our taxes -- so depressing. We file in October, though, and I hope he got it close to correct.

But you find solace in the fact that the government is such a good steward of your money. Right?

So there aren’t any food pics yet today. My wife packs oatmeal/nuts/etc and picks up hot water, black coffee and egg bites from Starbucks in the mornings for about $25. That savings is immediately transferred into a shopping fund and disappears quicker than foreign aid. Corruption is everywhere I guess.

We are going to Edo tonight so I’ll get some pics there.

I played a short session at Encore and will post a couple hands in a separate thread.

Walked over to Encore around 10 this morning. Waited a half hour or so and sat down at the only 1/3 game. The table was almost entirely Asian males that had played all night. I only put $300 on the table cuz I play better when I’m stuck $300. So my plan was to dust it off, rebuy max, and run it up. Lol.

Twice I had Q’s in early position and raised to $15. Get one caller and then a 3-bet to 50/55. I’m thinking if my plan really was to dust off a short buyin I had two chances and didn’t pull the trigger. Anyway, both times we see flop three ways and there’s an over card. I check and fold to a flop bet. Is this bad poker?
The table had a continual supply of 2/5 players waiting for a seat. So the action was good cuz they try to bully a lot.

On another hand I raised to $15 in cutoff with 10’s. Button calls. Flop is J/10/3. I bet $25 and he calls. Turn is 6 and now there’s two diamonds. I bet 40 and he calls without really hesitating. Very methodical. I decided he had a hand like Q’s maybe K’s. River was another J and I bet 60 and he calls without hesitation. I tabled my tens and he mucks saying he had A’s.

If there are higher stakes players at your table and they are being aggressive then I would be 4betting/getting it in with QQ rather than calling and then check folding flops

Their ranges are just too wide to be playing fit or fold with QQ

This. It's way too strong of a hand against good players or agro gamblers.

Different story vs daytime OMCs.

Dinner with the wife at Edo tonight. We had the tasting menu and added caviar and the scallops. I’ll post the menu since there’s no way I could remember or record what everything was. I’ll post the pics in the menu order. Best of the lot was the watermelon gazpacho, caviar egg thing, tuna tartare, scallops, pork chop thing, and the panna cotta dessert.

Menu

Caviar & Eggs, Watermelon Gazpacho

Bread & Stuff

Bluefin Tuna

Melon con Jamon

Wagyu Flambe

Scallops

Iberico Pork

Panna Cotta

Overall, it was a great experience. It’s a small place but very busy. We both agreed that we liked Momofuku better though.
