I was totally blown away. Every single dish I tried was incredible. Service was impeccable. Truly one of the most memorable dining experiences I've had. I can't imagine I will ever go to Firefly again.

Sadly, I can't send Clark the bill.

Jamón Ibérico de bellota Fermin - very concentrated meat flavor, with the perfect amount of fat. Could have used some bread with this

Croquetas de pollo - nice creamy texture, liked the shoe.

Escalivada catalana - if you get this, make sure you take a bite of the pepper, eggplant, and onion simultaneously

Salmon crudo con vinagreta de anchoas - I think this was my favorite, you get the nice saltiness from the anchovy without masking the salmon flavor

Gambas al ajillo - simple preparation of the shrimp, so agree that it wasn't ZOMG, but they were done perfectly

Fricandó de carilleras de ternera y puré de patatas al aceite de oliva - got this towards the end, very tasty and probably too hearty for where we were in the meal

Vieiras con salsa de romesco - scallops done perfectly, get some sauce with each bite, and get this early as well

Lobster paella - Excellent, my own personal hangup with dishes like this is that I hate eating something that requires me to spit out shell fragments mid-stream, but the flavor was great, and it was fairly reasonable ($28 for the paella + half lobster)

Pastel de chocolate y avellanas - my wife liked this, and she generally prefers cake-y to mousse-y. I thought it was quite good.

We split a carafe of sangria, which I felt was pretty good, but we're accustomed to it being just a touch sweeter. Different strokes...

Overally, definitely recommend this place!

ETA: Diablo's influence is vast and far-reaching.

I know it has been mentioned in this thread before, but I have to give a huge thumbs up to SW Steakhouse at the Wynn. I had it 3 years ago and it was one of the best filet mignons I'd ever had. I was just there again last weekend and it did not disappoint. Creamed spinach was also top notch, along with the service.

Just got back from a weekend trip and had 3 awesome meals:

Blossom (Aria) - Hong Kong Chinese style. Can't go wrong with the beef tips and Kung Pao Chicken. Amazing rice dishes. There's also a dark chocolate / orange cotton candy desert that's fantastic.

Palm (Caesars) - Steaks. Great filet mignon and some of the best crab cakes I've had (wife is from Maryland and she raved about them). Also must order the chocolate cake desert.

Mesa Grill (Caesars) - Soithwest Grill. Bobby Flay's place is home to my all time favorite restaurant dish... New Mexican rubbed pork tenderloin.

That's the 2nd post in a row where he's posted my exact thoughts.

Had a discussion a while back about Morel's in LA, and how it was the best Caesar I've had in a long time (since every Caesar I've had in Vegas has been mediocre at best). I still haven't been to Morel's Vegas, but am definitely planning on going now.
There's a place on Eastern and like Siena Heights I believe called Gaetano's. I love it as an italian restaurant, and I love their Caesar, but it may not be up to your high standards...and I believe if you want anchovies added to it, you have to ask. But check it out. Flame me later.

Lolrealtimecommentary...my wife and I made the presumed mistake of coming here at 7p on Saturday, ordering two combo (ie, not premade slices) and fell out of the queue completely. Pie was good, though we didn't end up getting what we ordered.

anybody made it out to Shaboo yet?

I'm sure it will be fantastically expensive due to it being a Masa joint but also has some potential to be amazing.

l'atelier is great. its a slightly more casual way to have some really good food. I really enjoy the open kitchen there.

Agree. Do sit at the "sushi bar" to watch. If you just want to test drive the food and keep the bill downsized, just sit at the bar for dessert and coffee. It'll still be a comparative blow. Don't try to rush the food there before going to Ka. Do try the mini-tarts for dessert. They are small, but are little mini bombs of flavor. The mashed potatoes are a vehicle used to see how much butter they can put in them without them falling apart.

I'm entertaining customers all week and I think I'm covered for dinners with Switch, Capital Grill & CarneVino. I'm not familiar with Switch and I'm wondering if I should go with SW instead. From looking at the menu, Switch appears to be on par with SW and my only is on the same level and I like variety.

My main question is this. I need to break away from the convention center at noon (a very inopportune time) to take an important prospective customer to lunch. Running next door to the Hilton would probably take just as long as a cab ride to a nicer local.

My first choice is Capital Grill because they're close, serve lunch and they have good food. I'm already eating there one night (customers choice) and I wouldn't mind something equal or better. It doesn't have to be over the top expensive but quality and speed are a factor because I have other meetings from 2-5.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Steakhouse, steakhouse, steakhouse if you do SW. I've never been to Switch but if the alternative is three steakhouses in a row, I'm doing Switch instead of SW. I'd try and swap out either Capital Grille or Carnevino for SW though.

Isn't the cab situation nuts during conventions? If not- your choice of Capital Grille fits the bill, as would anything in Wynn/Encore. Country Club at Wynn might be a good choice.

The 3 Steak House in a row is not by choice. I asked and all three groups said "Steak". My wife gets to pick Friday night, and made the mistake of showing her this thread so I'm sure she's going to try and bust me.

Country Club may work better. It's a little closer and gives me a different venue. I know there's a shuttle from the hotel that should be running peak back and forth to the hall at that time frame.

We're leaving for lunch during the opening couple of hours of the show so I hoping there will be plenty available from dropping people off.

Thanks

I'm with Augie on this one. We were there in September and I ordered the pork chop. As soon as they set it down I could tell it was horriby over cooked. One bite confirmed it. It then took 10 minutes before someone came by to check on us - they confirmed it was overcooked and said they would get another started, but left the plate in front of me. After 15 minutes I grabbed a manager and asked the status on my meal. 10 minutes later he returned and said it would be another 25 minutes. WTF?? I told them to forget it since the rest of the table was already done eating. One of the most disappointing experiences I've ever had at a fine dining restaurant. It was doubly disappointing as I'm a huge fan of B&B. I will never go back to Carnevino.

i thought the service was pretty mediocre also. with the vast number of high end steakhouses in vegas i'm not going to one where they act like they don't care.

guys like jon curtas get impeccable service when they show up to a place like that so of course he thinks its the best steakhouse in vegas. i'm sure if the service is on point, eating at carnevino is a very pleasurable experience.

I've never had anything but the best service at Carne Vino, and in 15+ meals there, often dining with 6+ people, I don't recall anyone ever saying their meat wasn't cooked how they ordered it.

I honestly don't know how often I get recognized as a regular there. Maybe that's why I get good service? IDK.

It may have just been a bad night for them. I'd eaten there two times previously (both times at the bar) and it was great. I just really felt like I was dealing with the B team that night or that they'd had some recent turnover in staff. Honestly, my porkchop should never have made it on a plate, let alone through the pass. And once it did, how the waiter who brought it out couldn't tell it wasn't right is beyond me.

I've found the service in Batali's restaurants to be very hit and miss, and a hair on the snooty side. The food is good if you know what you like. I find that he's got some incredible stuff and some not-so-good stuff. Wine list is at the extreme end in terms of markup. 3x retail vs. the more standard 2x retail at most (obv not all) of the high-end Vegas restaurants.

I only went to Carnevino one time, but I felt that the service was really good, but the meat was unbelievably good. Probably the finest piece of steak I've ever had. I think Cut will be the next baller steakhouse I try.

Are there any restaurants in Vegas where you need to dress better than that? I sometimes wear nicer shoes but jeans/jacket were fine everywhere I went. TBH I always thought in that category Vegas was more like central Europe where nice jeans/jacket comes right behind a suit.

+1 for love carnevino. Only thing I didn't liked with their service was when I went there with friends who have little clue about wine and the sommelier treated them a bit like they were ******ed.

At Picasso in the bellagio they wouldn't let me in wearing jeans. But they had a solution that worked for both of us - company pants.

They keep a few spares of nice pants by the entrance, and they were very curteous about it too; borrowed them for 3 hrs and returned them.
