There were no " this is the best thing I have tasted" moments. The creme of chestnut with duck and porcini was superb, as was the foie gras "steak", but everything else was just "nice". If I am spending $600 for a meal, I might as well spend $1,100 and have a truly unique culinary experience. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone has their own opinion, but our verdict is - not even close - Joel hands down.
I agree with the sentiment re Picasso. Haven't been to Joel R, so can't comment on the comparison. But, my wife and I were both underwhelmed when we went to Picasso a few years back. Even taking into account the normal "we're in Vegas" mark up, it still felt pretty significantly overpriced. Service was nice, wine pairing and sommelier experience was good, but food was squarely "that was good but not great" range and I agree that nothing stood out.
Did it once, dont regret it, would not go again. To be fair, I'm generally of the opinion that Vegas is not great for fine dining compared to similarly priced options in other cities, so YMMV.
Anyway, just wanted to jump on the contrarian bandwagon when I saw it. Carry on.
