Didn't have any while I was there so I can't comment on that, but I promise you won't be disappointed with the short rib or lobster risotto

Went to old homestead before playing some live which is rare. Went for the burger which was really highly recommended. Was a very good burger, although for 38 bucks there is certainly better value burgers in town. Still looking for a burger to replace BBDs which closed up.

Also had the lobster bisque which somehow was really below average for a high end steak place that should easily knock that out. A few other people who were sitting at the bar were also quite disappointed in their apps. I know I’m not posting anything new here because this is definitely not on the recommended steakhouses in this thread.

My pops and step mom are coming to meet me in 2 weeks, I Want to take them to Sparrow and Wolf or something similar, great family style menu with culinary excellence. (I know S & W) is not top of the chain but I love what they do and always down for similar off strip

Cheers!

Going back a few days to the Jaleo comments.

Jaleo's tapas can be hit or miss but it has the best lunch deal on the Strip afaik. $25 for three dishes "lunch like a Spaniard". If they haven't changed the menu just order the three in the right-hand column. They will cut you a generous ounce of jamon iberica bellota for $35 too.

Sorry to post a contrarian view, but I found Picasso disappointing. Don't get me wrong - the service was impeccable, the window table superb, the wine pairings perfect, and the food was very good. And, yes, it is approximately 1/2 the price of Joel for comparable order. But, and this is a big BUT, we found the food nowhere near as good. There were no " this is the best thing I have tasted" moments. The creme of chestnut with duck and porcini was superb, as was the foie gras "steak", but everything else was just "nice". If I am spending $600 for a meal, I might as well spend $1,100 and have a truly unique culinary experience. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone has their own opinion, but our verdict is - not even close - Joel hands down.

I was browsing the Mayfair Supper Club menu and noticed they have a $25,000 cocktail on the menu, the Baller Old Fashioned: Macallan 72-year Scotch, Demerara Syrup, Orange Peel, Japanese Bitters. Just thought that was notable.

I accidentally ended up at Michael's Gourmet Room at South Point the other day.

That was an unexpected experience...

Using a 72 year Macallan like that would be a damn shame.

How do you "accidentally" end up at a high-end gourmet restaurant?

Imagine spending $25,000 on a 72 year old scotch just to ruin it with sugar.

My wife was in the mood for a for a filet so I did some internet research looking for a new to us place with a good filet not too far from our house.

Found Michael's, saw it was at South Point so figured it was going to be a normal steakhouse, made an OpenTable reservation, & yeahhhhh...

Yeah, I did the research on the menu on their website & just booked on OpenTable. It's 100% my bad.

We were super confused when we sat down & they brought out a tray of food, but no menus.

When they finally did bring out the menus only mine had prices, not my wife's & I was a bit shocked at $100/steak.

Once we figured out what was going on we just relaxed & enjoyed it. Great service, good food, interesting dining experience. I think we were the only people there under 70, though, & I don't think I'll ever go back, but I don't regret accidentally showing up there.

I agree with the sentiment re Picasso. Haven't been to Joel R, so can't comment on the comparison. But, my wife and I were both underwhelmed when we went to Picasso a few years back. Even taking into account the normal "we're in Vegas" mark up, it still felt pretty significantly overpriced. Service was nice, wine pairing and sommelier experience was good, but food was squarely "that was good but not great" range and I agree that nothing stood out.

Did it once, dont regret it, would not go again. To be fair, I'm generally of the opinion that Vegas is not great for fine dining compared to similarly priced options in other cities, so YMMV.

Anyway, just wanted to jump on the contrarian bandwagon when I saw it. Carry on.

Thanks for the explanation. I might even give a try one time.

It’s an old school everywhere thing. I guess they think of it as a charming throwback to the days when women had no equality in their relationships with men.

My wife does not have equality - we both have 1 vote.... and she has the tie-breaker.
